I agree, that could be very helpful!

Super Tool! Thanks for adding the Low-Carb category. This really helps. I can look for the right carb amounts I need for specific meals as set by my dietician. Can this be added to the sparkpeople.com website, too?

Would it be possible to add recipes to a monthly calendar (30 day view) so we could see/plan our meals by the week, and know what we might have to eat the other days?

One thing that would take SparkRecipes to the next level, would be to have the computer compile the recipes we add to the montly calendar, and make a grocery/shopping list for the days / weeks we would like to shop for.

I would love to be able to use the menu plans that sparkpeople has come up with, but I have to select foods within certain restricted limits for my meals.
Could this option be added to the sparkpeople page one day?

I just saw this and will go check out the sugar free section. I've been slowly exploring the recipe site and do want to say that I think it's great.

Thanks for all the work that went into developing this.

Thanks for the feedback, we'll keep something like that in mind!

I definitely see what you mean. However, everyone has a different definition of "healthy," and some foods that aren't extremely healthy are OK to eat in moderation, especially when compared to eating fast food. We'll also keep in mind to show more recipes on search results. Thanks!

Thanks for replying back Dave. I can understand how you want recipes rated but unfortunately that's not always how people rate. If it's an "unhealthy" recipe but someone has made it before or for a potluck and everyone absolutely loved it then they will give it a high rating because they and so many others loved it. See the dilemma? Maybe if people saw something like, "Please submit HEALTHY recipes ONLY," or "Please submit HEALTHY versions of your favorite recipes ONLY," then people might think twice about entering that chocolate cake with mayonaisse or the one with almost 24 grams of sugar per serving and only half a gram of dietary fiber. Know what I mean?

I've been scrolling through the recipes, only did the search once to see what came up for chocolate, and sometimes it's just alot of recipes and pages to go through trying to eyeball what "looks like" may be healthy. Do you think an option to view 20/40/50/100 recipes per page would be possible? I know when a "search" has been done I've seen 199 results at once.

Anyways, thanks for getting back to me!

Have a great day!

Dave..

Although I don't think this would be possible right this minute or even within the next few months...down the line would it be possible to utilize the red heart and cross reference those recipies that would comply with heart healthy recipies...

I ask because heart disease is becoming something that more and more women are becoming aware of and the easiest way to see if something is good for you in terms of healthy eating for your heart is the red symbol..it is a thought for the future...

In other words..at some point in the future possibly having a category that is heart healthy..which would include low sodium, low fat etc..but also keep these same recipies in the their respective categories ie: side, poultry, etc...

Thanks for your work on the site..it is great!

Thanks for the feedback! We're actually looking for help from our members to determine if recipes are healthy. We're asking that you rate recipes on both their healthiness and tastiness (is that a word?). So hopefully unhealthy recipes will sink to the bottom of searches.

Thanks Dave!

A "Low Sodium" category would be nice too.

One thing I'm concerned about is that SparkRecipes states these are "Healthy" recipes. You may need to get a "Miscellaneous" aka "Not So Healthy" category because I've seen too many recipes that just don't belong in the "Healthy" category. It would be nice when I click on the Desserts category if I didn't have to filter through all the recipes I consider not conducive to losing weight like recipes that call for 1 box of cake mix and a fruit. If I wanted a decadent recipe for a special occassion I could go to RecipeZaar or Allrecipes. But all I want here is to find good, wholesome and HEALTHY recipes.

I know the dietician can't possibly approve all the recipes but shouldn't there be some kind of criteria to post recipes?

Thanks for listening!

Based on feedback from members we added 3 new categories to the SparkRecipes "Dietary Needs" categories:
- Low carb
- Low fat
- Sugar free

You can now categorize recipes with these on the Recipe Calculator page and can browse by these categories on the Browse recipes page in the Dietary Needs section.

If you've submitted recipes in the past that could fit in these categories you can always edit your recipes and add these categorizations.

Thanks!
