I finally started a mood chart on Moodtracker.com. I think I'm in a manic state. Sleep is decreasing and productivity is up. At least I can concentrate to finish something at this point.

ZFISHPOND..... What type of food??? I have a high sensitivity to artifical sweetners. Do you take a lot of supplements??? Sometimes those don't mix with the meds we are on or you might have a sensitivity to them and you are associating it with the food. Just a thought..... Shannon

I am manic, still and underneath it is a feeling of doom. I am around a 2, I guess.

I use a mood tracker also. I have a silly question. Today, I woke up very sleepy. I went back to bed. I am feeling out of sorts still, though I have a hard time telling you this.
The ? is: Have you ever eaten at a restaurant, and then the next day felt out of sorts, like really tired, hard time focusing, almost depressed? Just curious. I guess I am trying to say also, I don't feel in control of myself. Make sense?
Thanks in advance ladies!

I am 6. Happy and Content. Just chilling. Ready to start the weekend. The dread of the weekend has not set it - I mean usually I have issues on the weekends because it lacks the structure of the week but this weekend I have made plans for Sunday and some plans for Saturday. hopefully that will keep me in the middle zone. no highs or lows for me this weekend - fingers crossed!

I'm about a 6 today. Sitting content with myself. Need to look for a job in a bank. Last job was stressful and demeaning.Giving everything to God and decided to live in peace with myself. I think when I find the job God has for me then 7 will come. Today I am content with me and all in my surroundings.

i'm right about 5 today too.
there are a lot of changes about to happen in my life and generally i've been able to be pretty positive about them, but today i'm feeling sad and a little bit scared.
so i guess i'm really a 5 leaning towards 4, but trying to do positive things to keep myself from starting what could potentially be a long downward spiral.

5 today. I'm sortta mad actually, but I know that it's for no good reason, so I am trying to be okay. There's no reason for me to be mad. Of course, I don't have any more meds either, so that could be something too. I've called my doctor all ready.

i'm a 6 today. it seems that since my meds (lamictal and prozac) have stabilized me i just kid of hang out here. rarely any higher. sometimes a little lower. i'm still learning to be happy with this middle ground. i appreciate that i can totally function in the world this way, but i do miss being able to reach a 7 or 8 at times - not enough to trainwreck... just wistfully at this point.

Hi everybody...my name is Essie and I think my husband has bipolar disorder...but I am not quite sure...he appears to cycle every month and anything can set him off...he is always in a rage about something that cannot be changed...or if I leave a light on...stuff like that...Its all so self centered. His feelings, always his feelings...and I am wondering if this is part of it. I am a registered nurse and I told him point blank that I thought he was bipolar and needed help...well, that wasn't a good idea...just more rage and said I told him he was crazy which I know is not correct...I need some pointers and some assistance to get him help (us help) or our marriage of 42 years is going to go down the drain...so if anyone has any suggestions I am willing to listen... Thanks Essie

Thanks so much for the chart! I have never seen one whose purpose was to explain to the significant other. I am fairly new to bipolar having been diagnosed about a year ago. My bf and I have been dating for about six months and my mood for the most part has been pretty stable (compared to before the meds...lol). I have changes almost daily but not so much of the extreme highs and lows. I have not been able to find a way to explain these changes to him and think this chart with help tremedously. Thanks again for posting it and thanks to everyone whose posted with this team. It's great to know I'm not alone in the journey with bipolar. :)

Thank you Jen for the chart you showed and to everyone else who suggested different websites to check out. I've been feeling like I'm the only one that goes through these awful, weird mood swings and haven't known how to explain them to people. Sometimes there's times when I can't even get out of bed. I'm glad to know there's a place I can come to where people like yourselves will actually understand what I'm going through and can perhaps help me. Thanks everyone. This has actually given me hope.
I just found it through some online searches and got started with it. Besides the specifics of your mood, you can track your energy, self-esteem, sleep and appetite... as well as whether or not there are certain issues going on (family issues, financial issues, friends issues, personal issues, relationship issues, or work issues). You can also track your medication through the mood tracker.
So far the mood tracker has proven easy to use. One thing I don't like about it is that there aren't a wider range of symptoms. While filling in information about how yesterday went for me, I specifically noticed they don't have "hallucinations" in the list of boxes to check or leave unchecked. However, they do include the option for putting in a daily journal entry. I also don't like that it doesn't seem to be geared as much toward those of us who experience rapid cycling and can go back and forth several times in a day. In part of it, they kind of make you generalize your mood for the day by asking if your mood is excellent, good, okay, bad, or horrible. Sometimes I have days where my mood goes back and forth - during part of the day it was excellent and another part of it was horrible... and all sorts of stuff in between. I guess this is where the journal entry thing can come in handy again. Don't get me wrong - I'm thankful to have found it, despite it's drawbacks.

I've been having the swings continuously for about a year...alot of 2 &3's then swinging all the way to 8 and 9. Ive just been newly diangnosed and so the meds havent even touched the sides yet. Its hard to deal with when alot of it is internalised not everyone sees how it actually is eh. Good list you have there. Thanks

I just checked out the mood chart, looks good. My mood is not good. Missing work tonight. I will come out of this I'm sure. Just not sure when, lol. Bare with me please.

That chart is so awesome. I am so proud to know that I am not the only person like that in the world. It is such a relief. My husband often makes me feel like a true crazy person because of my mood changes and attitudes. I wish that he could understand that things aren't as easy on me as he thinks that they are. He thinks that I am out simply to hurt him and his feelings or something. I often can and do tell him pretty much which mood I am in at the beginning of the day but he doesn't seem to understand and listen. It is so hard to workout when your mind changes daily and sometimes even hourly about how you feel on things. I am going to copy and print this chart (a revised version for me of course) and put it where my husband can see it daily. Maybe this will be a reminder to me.

Jen This is great. My hubby just looked at me when I handed him the copy. He knows my moods before I do. He know when to ask what's wrong or not. He has been very in tuned. I do not know if he looked anything up on the internet.
He does say that since I started this team I have been so much calmer. Easier to talk with. I notice his humor is back. Maybe it never left and I did not notice.
About the only time I have major problems is with my Dad and Sis how they argue in front of my mother. Mother is a stroke victim. Her right side does not work.
Or when my Dad tells me my weight has gotten to a dangerous place. When he smokes 4 packs of cigs a day. And cannot quit. Won't quit. At least I try to lose weight. Or when he says I am on drugs because of my psych meds.
Then I am just wild. My hubby goes into the other room and hides on the computer.
He is a good man.
Thank you again, Jen.

Jenbug1218: I had to scroll to the bottom to see the chart. It would of worked well for me in the past, but now it's just Howard and myself and we're retired. He knows my moods before I do most times. My children have decided not to have children so there are no children in the family. I am going to record my moods in my journal so I can chart the ups and downs. I raised my children not knowing what was wrong with and I certainly didn't want it to be mental problem. OMG thank you for the chart. I copied and tweaked it a little (my son is 16 and is usually not home) but added in taking over the house, kid (if around) and pets.
I am about a 4 right now, but have been a 10. I see myself in this chart and I thank you so much for making me feel like others understand

I've been looking for a mood chart ... love yours, Jenbug! Will also look at the other sites mentioned.
Best thing I've found to tell my family: if it's not life-or-death, stop pushing me if I tell you I can't handle it. Just stop talking! I tell them they're throwing gasoline on a fire! A book I read says to tell your loved ones "You're talking to the illness, not to me, at this point."
