I from Southeast WI where the winters are long, spring is 2 weeks and summer is 2 months. Fall is optional. ha-ha! The city I live in has a population of 30,000, lots of parks, good schools, and many activities throughout the year. Average temperature - there is no average. Last summer barely hit an 80 degree day. This summer was 90's for weeks. Snowfall ranges from 3-5' annually. Rain, optional but greatly needed.

I can do all things through Christ Jesus . . .

Peggy – in the old American Folklore stories that Uncle Remus would tell about Br’er Rabbit and Br’er Fox, Br’er Rabbit would plead with Br’er Fox to do anything but throw him into the bramble bush and or briar patch..
I always thought that to be blackberry bushes.. that was the impression I had according to the pictures in the books that I read when I was a kid.. We don’t call them Bramble bushes or briar patches here..

I should go and read some of those old stories again one day.. I can remember a tar baby but forget what that was all about..

I also love blackberries.. years ago we’d go gathering them in the bushes .. a pretty prickly job but it was great jam that my Mum would make.

Blackberry is actually classed as an noxious weed here and you don’t see it very often.. just on the sides of the roads occasionally.

We have Mulberries from the silk worm trees but as nice as they are blackberries are the best..
Once or twice I’ve seen a little punnet of them in the fruit sections – so they must be grown commercially somewhere.. Maybe America – we get lots of your beautiful big strawberries from time to time..
Everyone, everywhere asks – "why don’t we just have our own produce and products..” I'm guessing it’s something to do with trade agreements but I personally think it's nice and a little of it is okay and lends itself to us seeing what’s happening elsewhere in the world.

I’m raving on again... bye for now. emoticon

Middlesbrough -Cleveland England

Ive lived in middlesbrough for 28 yrs since i got married ,i live in a mid terrace house ,a 2up 2 down ,back to back ,it was built in 1908 ,no garden but a rear yard which backs on to a alley then on to another row of terrace houses ,so forth and so on ,hence back to back .Just five mins from my home is Albert Park which is popular with the locals ,especially with the dog walkers and joggers ,it as tennis courts ,bowling greens ,skating ring [roller] ,and a lake at the end of the park with lots of wild life ,a little bit of country side in a busy town ,it was built in 1868 and still as some of its original features ,also theirs plenty of squirrel ,which murhpy loves to chase ,if you go in early morning if its damp there are plenty of mushrooms about ,iam not up on mushrooms so i dont pick them in case i pick something thats not to eat ,in august- september there is plenty of Brambles,i pick those and have many pies and crumbles. Next to Albert Park we have the Dorman Museum which was opened 1904 it has some very interesting exhibitions and is very popular with the local schools .Just outside middlesbrough about 4 miles we have Stewarts Park that has a animal farm and the Captain Cook Birthplace Museumwhich was opened in 1978 to mark the anniversary of Cooks birth. With being near the coast we have seaside towns Redcar is the closest to us and is very popular winter and summer , and if you go further donthe coast you come to Staiths where Captain Cook was born ,and you have numerous little villages all along the coastline ,also theres Whitby with its Abbey and 199 steps ,which i have climbed many a time ,and is very popular with people from all corners of the world ,including me its my favourite place ,and the place where Captain Cook sailed, also whitby is where dracular was said to roam . if you go in land you are among the farming community and the North Yorkshire Moors National parks ,and historical market towns like Richmond and Hemsley to name just a few ,and plenty of old fashioned pubs .if you go up north you come to geordie towns ,Newcastle ,Sunderland ,Gateshead Hartlepool to name just a few that where manly mines and ship building areas but now most of that industry as gone ,All in all the north east is not a bad place to live we are still thriving and growing with the times , this is where i live north east folk are proud and hard working , of course there's lots more i could write but i hope this gives you all a good idea of where i live . emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I am enjoying reading about places where we live. All so different. I told you about Grantham which is the closest town to the village I live. Great Geonerby it is, its the only hill for miles aorund Its belived it was a Roaman outpost with tower 2000 years ago. Soldiers looking towards the East coast and inavaders. The name derives from Viking invaders who later settled here. The chief had name something like Gunnerbee. The locals still say Gunnerby as where they live. Mainly farming community in the past, life revolved round the centuries old church. Which is still in use.
There are a few historical connections The top of the hill has a gallows thare. Not the orignal but was where highway men were hung. The hill being so steep, coach passengers had to get out and walk so they and the coaches were a target for robbery often.
A better road was cut into the rocky hillside by French prisoners who were kept in a camp here after the Napoloeanic wars. Makes me wonder how many settled and had families here.
Its an access road to the main A1 road which runs the length of England. So became a stop off and watering place for horses and coach passengers.
Now its a suburb of Grantham. One small shop, a local post office, a primary school for 5 - 11 year old plus a pub a social club and church.
Some houses in Gt G are very old. One is called Cromwell House which where Oliver Crowmwell stayed to plan a battle in the civil war of 1600s. That house is in Pond Steet which tells you about that street name. At the top of Pond Street is Spring End. Again a revealing name. Where we live is not old, 1960s house built on what was the local castle land. Belvoir castle is still there standing high above flat landscapes. Same family have lived there for generations. Its now a business conference venue too anything to raise money.
The word Belvoir is from Norman times they were the last of England invaders. They built the original castle It mans Beautiful View in French. But round here is said as Beaver.
I am not from this area but taken an interest in its history. Hope you enjoyed reading of it. Ree emoticon

G’Day from Australia..... emoticon emoticon

I live in an area called Nelson’s Plains.. There’s nothing here – just a few houses – not even a corner shop.. We’re out in the bush a bit but still only about 7 minutes drive into Raymond Terrace which is a reasonably sized small town where we do most of our shopping.. Raymond Terrace is known as the twin river town because the Williams River flows from the north east about 100 miles up from the Barrington Tops and joins the Hunter River which is a much longer river. It comes down from up north and inland a little where there’s a lot of grain farms and dairy farms plus there’s lots of cattle and horses.. The general area is called the Hunter Valley..
Nelson's Plains in a very flat area shaped like a triangle between the two rivers..
Driving across it is fabulous for watching the sky and the cloud formations especially at sunsets and sunrises because we have an uninterrupted 360 degree view - sometimes it's just beautiful..
We actually live on a hill and have lots of trees around us so I can really only see the sky if I look straight up.. but that's okay - trees are nice and the birdlife is lovely.

West of Raymond Terrace, still in the Hunter Valley and about an hour’s drive we have the vineyards.. Of course this is only one of the areas in Australia where they grow grapes for wine.

Travelling east from Raymond Terrace and about 30 minutes drive we have the City of Newcastle which is on the east coast of Australia in New South Wales.. (N.S.W.) Newcastle has a nice little harbour and it’s where the Hunter River reaches the sea..
Newcastle is about 2 hours north of Sydney (the Capital City of N.S.W.)
Newcastle is about 5 hours north of Canberra (the Australian Capital City) it's in the Middle of N.S.W. but it is actually in a separate little area called the ACT.. (the Australian Capital Territory) – DD Sally and her partner and son Thomas live there..
A 12-14 hours drive south we will reach Melbourne, Victoria.. Melbourne is Victoria's Capital City.. Our 3 other children live there.. Leah, Kinta and Matthew.. Leah is single, Kinta is married to Richard and has 2 boys, Wil and Lucas.. Matthew is to be married next April to Jo-Anne..

This is not totally about where I live but for those who are interested there’s plenty on the internet if you care to 'Google'.

Newcastle has a history which goes way back to early settlement times here. I believe it was first discovered when the Constabulary of the time were chasing down some escaped convicts..

Coal was discovered and that’s maybe why is got the name.. after Newcastle-upon-Tyne in England..
There are a lot of names of suburbs around Newcastle here that are the same as they are in the Newcastle in England..
I think a lot of place names originated in England – even many in America I'm sure.

Newcastle was an Iron city all the time I was growing up and living in Mayfield – a suburb about 4 miles from Newcastle. Mayfield was were the B.H.P Steel works were.. (Broken Hill Pty.) A huge industrial site where the iron was made.. It employed many people in those days and when they eventually closed down lots of people were without jobs. These days most of that has gone and the city is much cleaner because of it.. It's still sort of a Steel city but the foreshores around the harbour have been transformed and it’s a great place for people to walk, ride bikes take their dogs for walks and we even have a special little beach where the dogs are permitted.. It’s such fun watching them too.. so many and so many different breeds all really enjoying themselves and playing together in the water..
Of course and 'also' our beaches are amongst the ‘best’ in the world.. (I just had to say that didn't I) laugh.. - There's Newcastle, Nobby’s, Bar Beach, Merewether, Red Head and a little up the coast it’s another story again.. Port Stephen’s, Nelson Bay and Tea Gardens, with their many and varied little beaches.. Those areas really get packed at holiday times..
We have lakes quite nearby as well.. Lake Macquarie, the Myal and Smith Lakes, Still in N.S.W. there are some more nice little ports.. Foster, Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour.. all very good for fishing, swimming and surfing..

Well, it seems that I could go on and on.. when I think about it there is quite a bit of history and interests around here..

YOU SHOULD ALL COME FOR A VISIT !!! emoticon

Middlesbrought Cleveland Where i live continued

Middlesbrough town centre today is quite different from the original town planned by Joseph Pease ,sadly alot of the old buidings have been demolited to make way for modern buildings and housing to cope with the ever increasing population and modern technology ,But afew remain, the town hall built in 1889 and the municipal buildings vaguely resemble the houses of parliament are still an impressive headquarters for the council .Anthe turnof the century Linthorpe Road had become the main shopping street ,which forms the modern center of middlesbrough ,[ i just live of this main road] with the university which was voted university of the year 2009 ,the central libaray, law courts ,radio stations ,shopping centres ,car parks and busy shopping streets all located within easy reach .Middlesbrough is the capital of Teesside and the Tees Valley and is famed for its industry ,and its bridges including the transporter bridge [opened 1911] which is the symbol of teesside .Today oil and chemicals are teesides most important industries . Ithink ive double posted again sorry ,I will finnish my tale another time Cheerio Jeanette

MIDDLESBROUGH CLEVELAND

HISTORY OF WHERE I LIVE

I live on the north east coast of england , not the hotest place in the country, but we have rolling hills and in the surrounding areas beautiful country side ,and we are only 10 miles from the north sea ,Middlesbrough started out as farms in 1801 it consisted of 4 farms and about 25 people by the mouth of the river tees within 30 yrs the railway had come and the area exported pig iron the town grew and spread over the fields and marches the population skyrocked to 5,462 in 1841 . In1829 aquacker businessman called Joseph Pease bought this farmstead and set about its development on the banks of the tees ,a town was planned ,and middlesbrough was born. In 1850 iron was found inthe cleveland hills which made them build teesides first blast furnace ,Iron was in big demand so more and more blast furnaces were opened , Middlesbrough was producing a third of the nations iron , and was used to make the railways of the world as well as construction of bridges , for which the area achieved international recognition , Dormon Long was the main builder , the most famous bridge constructed on teesside was the Sydney Harbour bridge in 1932 ,the town grew with the iron and steel with a population of 19,000 in 1861 increasing to 40,000 ten years later by the turn of the century it had more than doubled ,to 90,000 only seventy years earlier the town didnot exit today Middlesbrough has a population of 200,000 and is considered the heart of teesside,In english history nothing compares to its rapid growth and as been described as the oldest new town in England. Ihope iam not boring you all if not i will continue again another day Cheerio Jeanette

A little history of DeWitt, MI.

DeWitt is a city in Clinton County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 4,702 at the 2000 census.
The city is located within DeWitt Township, though it is politically independent. It is just north of Interstate 69, and just west of US 127, about 10 miles (16 km) north of downtown Lansing.

History
DeWitt was named after DeWitt Clinton, Governor of New York during the 1830s. It was first settled by Captain David Scott, who moved there from Ann Arbor in 1833, and platted the land.
In 1839, the city began serving as the county seat, until it was moved to St. Johns in 1857, a city several miles to the north. This caused a stagnation in the economic growth of the city.
In the early 1900s, the Lansing, St. Johns and St. Louis Railway opened the community to a new era of prosperity. In 1929, the town was incorporated as a village, and was no longer under the full jurisdiction of DeWitt Township.[3]
On October 21, 1930 a great fire swept though the downtown business district, destroying eight historic and business buildings. This included the destruction of the Clinton House/Hotel, which was a regionally famous establishment. The fire devastated the community, stagnating business growth once again. However, residential development did not slow, and thus DeWitt began its evolvement into the bedroom community that it is today.
DeWitt was incorporated into a city in 1965 as it became apparent to village officials that the needs of the community were becoming too difficult to manage under a rural government.[3]
DeWitt was ranked as the 75th best place to live in the United States by CNN Money in 2005.[4]

Greetings from York County, Pennsylvania. We live just N. of the Maryland/Pennsylvania state line - 14 miles, then 3 miles from there in the small town of Dallastown. We've lived here in the same house 40 yrs. Prior to that we lived in the city of York where we both were born and raised. The only time we were away from York was four yrs. in the mid 50's while DH was a student at the University of Miami, Florida. Our older DD was born there.

Grief is not a sign of Weakness
or a loss of Faith
But the price of Love

"Dear God, I have never thanked you for my thorns. I have thanked you a thousand times for my roses, but never once for my thorns. Teach me the glory of the cross I bear; teach me the value of my thorns. Show me that I have climbed closer to you along the path of pain. Show me that, through my tears, the colors of your rainbow look much more brilliant."

I live in Appleton, Wisconsin U.S.A.

If you look at a map of Wisconsin, about half way up the map on the East side of WI is a large lake. This is Lake Winnebago. Appleton is located at the Northern tip of that lake.

Tell us about where you live. Give the name of your town and state, and if you live outside of the USA please give your country first and please sign your post.
