Hi Missy and thanks for doing this challenge for us. I have actually been kind of lax on my exercise because I had bronchitis for a while. I did get back into it more last week. I teach a strength training class two days a week, and try to walk every day.

I have a goal of walking 8 miles before Halloween. I walk for endurance rather than speed at this point. Before I got sick I was up to 7 miles. Should be able to do that again soon.

We had a great week with the challenge...it is exciting to see so many members join in!!! Thanks for your support and participation!!

I have a question about exercise...I see that some of you are doing 2 hours or more of exercise many days of the week....wow...what dedication! My question is...for those of us who may be struggling to get our workouts in...what are you doing for exercise? What is it that you are doing that you are able to devote so much time to your good health?

I look forward to your replies on this!!

Thanks,
Missy emoticon

Oh my gosh! That sounds like a reason to go to Kansas! What is a bavarian cream filled fuzzy?

No junk food is a good challenge. I don't have too much of a problem with it most days. Mostly when my Mom offers it to me. I never can tell her no. emoticon

This is really something we can do! I have been in a slow-down. Maybe next week we can make some kind of goal to resist temptation to eat chips, crackers, ice cream, candy bars, doughnuts. I'm trying to list things others might have a problem with - I don't have a problem portioning my chips and ice cream, just resisting them altogether. Doughnuts, candy bars, and soda don't bother me anymore. Well, if you offered me a bavarian cream filled "fuzzy" (we had those in Kansas - haven't seen them here in PA)...

Having done challenges with Missy before, I'm thinking veggies means just veggies. That's all I'm counting.

Exercise is just cardio and you would count the minutes of cardio you do.

Hope Missy will clarify if I'm wrong.

Hi everyone! I'm really excited about trying this challenge and seeing how well it does at keeping me accountable for the entire week. I'm one of those people that stop and start every week or every other week. I want to change that. I want to achieve my goals and be successful! I have a question though... does anyone know where I have to go to track my weight to get it to show up on my weight tracker bar at the bottom of my posts? I knew at one time, but it's been so long since I've been on the site, that I can't remember. Thanks!

Thanks Tracey but I haven't seen where Missy has posted a challenge yet specifically. the record keeping only thread was for older challenges. When we had the last challenge Missy made Sticky topics with new threads for the challenge. I'm pretty sure we'll be posting to the sticky topics thread.

Hi Essie,

I'm not sure what Missy has in mind for a challenge, but if nothing new is posted I plan to start the challenge Sunday, 9/12, and use the one for June for a template just change the dates. In the past the challenges have run Sunday through Saturday. Hope this helps, and do keep an eye out for Missy to post something new. I always find these challenges helpful.

emoticon You have done a great job, Missy! I know what the time factor is, too! I try to get a walk in at the beginning of the day - 20 minutes, a little over a mile but it doesn't always happen. I do Curves 3X a week - that's about 40 min each, and I do some gardening each week - 30 to 180 minutes. We do some badminton on a night or two a week for family time.

And, yes, my SP nutrition link came back and told me I was doing more activity than I signed up for, I needed to re-do, and when I did, it gave me more to eat. Now I have to make sure I keep my activity level up or I'll gain on that many calories! I always aim for the lowest end and have only once gone over (went to a wedding reception with no healthy choices and the water was terrible so I ended up drinking soda)

I'll keep working on the same goals without posting. When you start this up again, make sure I get a post. By the way, I have been working so many hours that I hadn't posted my last two days - it will leave me in second place so you don't need to re-do anything.

I feel badly that it has taken me so long to post the results of the June challenge. Between work, preparing for our family reunion and dealing with the heat, I have just been too busy. I don't know what people with kids do...LOL!!!

Results are done...going to post them right now!!

Have a great summer!

I was going to take a break from this challenge too Missy. I've taken a leaders role for the Sizzling Summer Challenge and will need to devote my time to that team. Have a great summer! See you lighter!

Good morning all!! Just got back from a nice walk...yes, it was so nice out that I walked outside instead of with a Leslie DVD! It is supposed to get hot so drink lots of water!

I will have the results of the June Challenge this weekend...I promise. If anyone wants to do a challenge for July...go for it! I have too many things going on this month so I need to take a break, just won't have the time to devote to it.

Have a happy 4th!!!

God bless,

Good Sunday evening!!! I am so sorry that I haven't been posting much lately. I have been very busy at work and so when I am at home it seems that I am exercising, resting or spending time with my DH...which is a good thing...just not taking the time to post. I am starting to compile all the results for the June challenge so please make sure your results are up to date so that we can see who the winner will be at the end of the month. I see we have a couple new people involved...that is great!!!

Have a great night!

I am glad this works for you...my calorie range is 1300 to 1650 and I try to stay right around 1400 to 1500. I guess this plan works for me because I set it up for 30 minutes 5 days a week. If I changed it to more cardio, it would give me more calories. I don't want to change what I am doing as long as it is working!! It feels great to be making the progress I have made this year! I agree about the cadio...that is the key for me, I do some strength training, and am gradually increasing the amount that I do as I get more fit.

Thanks!

Good questions Missy! I have been trying really hard to get in 60 minutes of cardio at least 5 days. This is mostly walking or dancing. I teach a weight bearing exercise class twice a week and also do it on my own on Sunday. That gives me 45 to 90 minutes strenght training on those 3 days. I've found my weight loss to be more significant if I do the cardio.

I know how you feel about the time, some days I just can't fit it in. However it is becoming more important to me to try.

To answer the second question, just last week I realized I joined SP under a maintenace plan and not a loss plan. I couldn't believe how much they were telling me to eat. lol thank god I didn't follow the food plan set up for me by SP. I reset my page on Sunday I think it was. My plan is now a reasonable 1200 to 1550 cal. I am finding it difficult to reach it while not going over. I plan to follow the SP fod plan more closely starting next week.

Thanks for being such a supportive team leader!

I have a question for everyone regarding exercise...this is just for my curiosity.

I see many of you have 2 hours a day that you do of exercise...may I ask what you are doing and what kind of results you get from that? I have had this discussion with some other people lately and I am just wondering.

As for me, when I try to do that much, two things happen:
1. I don't have the time to do that much so I get discouraged and
2. I don't see results and if I do, I can't sustain that kind of routine to maintain my loss.

I find that if I do 30 minutes 5 days a week and at least 10 minutes on the other two days, and stay within my calorie range, I lose weight every week and I don't get burned out.

My other question follows...do you have your profile set up for you to do that much cardio each week so that it gives you a much higher calorie allotment to compensate for it?

I just like to compare what others are doing and what results they are getting from it.

Thanks,
Missy emoticon

I changed things around a little here...wanted to make a place for us to chat about the challenges...but don't want to clutter up the record keeping or description threads...it is easy to miss results.

Thanks!
