Evening Jammers. I am home, slept a few hours, did the grocery shopping ($450.00), and still not done. But things are set for this next week. Everyone look for the link in the next post to Week 4 of the Challenge. Also Jammers - in looking at the months of July and August, it appears to make more sense to make the July Challenge 5 weeks and the August Challenge 4 weeks. I will hold off on posting the August Challenge Sign Up thread until next Saturday, July 27th. The new challenge will therefore begin on Sunday, August 4th and run for 4 weeks until Saturday, August 31.

I have difficulty with the sleep because we have the care of my mother-in-law and she has a broken hip and dementia those 2 added together make for sleep disturbances when she is having a bad night.

Way to go Brownsugar2828 on your loss this week.

If I could travel anywhere it would have to be to an island in the Caribbean (or anywhere) where the water is that perfect blue and crystal clear. I love white sandy beaches. So anywhere like that.

I don't have a tip for organizing other than I find the set the timer for 15-30 minutes and then take a break for 15 minutes is one that helps me to keep going when I have a task I don't want to do.

So far as sleep is concerned with this weekly challenge - not so well. It's not that I don't want to sleep - I have a hard time sleeping. My joints ache at night, I have to get up to the bathroom, etc. I try hard to go to bed at 10 pm (get up at 5-530am). But I know I don't sleep well. I'm getting a bodymedia band, and it helps to monitor sleep so I'm curious to see what it reports! I do so much flip flopping around I'm sure it appears that I'm restless.

I need tips and am enjoying reading the posts. I also like Flylady's suggestion to use a kitchen timer- set for 15 minutes and crank out what needs doing. I can focus on anything for just 15 minutes.

I did something a while ago that I thought was pretty creative. My silverware tray broke and my top desk drawer was a mess; I couldn't find a thing when I needed it! I rummaged through my closet and found a couple of empty shoe boxes not being used. I used the lid of one as a silverware tray for the kitchen drawer and the bottom box of the same one, along with another lid, to organize my desk drawer. It worked really well! I also reuse glass food jars as change jars and to keep my pens organized. emoticon

I am going thru and pruning. Items that are not important to me any longer are being put in boxes for donation. Already have donated three boxes of books and two of household items and two of dh clothes with many he never wore and would no longer fit. Others may prefer a rummage sale but that is not my forte'.

I'm excited about my weight loss! I'm also excited to try 20 new recipes next week. I know that sounds like a lot but I made a meal plan with meals I wanted to try and while I repeated a few of them, a lot of them are different and new to me. I can't wait! I'll let you guys know next week what we both think of the new foods I'm preparing.

Lori, I'm so glad you and your family are safe. Crazy weather!

I have tried the new fitness/nutrition tracking method. They have now made it so that you can change back to the old way if you do not like the new way.

Theoretically, I think it makes sense. On days when you exercise more you need more food, so your recommended calorie range is higher.

I think there are still some kinks to be worked out though. I've noticed the ranges for carbs, fat, and protein do not adjust as your total calories increase. So on an active day, it may say I need to eat 600 more calories, but I'm over on all the macro-nutrient ranges. Also, it seems to be set to lose 1 pound a week, without a way to adjust it. I would like to lose 2 pounds, so I'm trying to eat about 500 calories less than my maximum calorie limit shown.

It also makes it harder to plan your food ahead of time, unless you are certain of getting your workout in and knowing exactly how you will be exercising.

Good morning July Jammers, after seeing that the scale is still not moving in the right direction I made sure I ate this morning and did a roll call in the house to see who would go with me to the track-they were all sleeping and so I decided I would go by myself. Well needless to say my daughter and son got up and took me to the track and I out did my 18 year old daughter. She did 1.25 miles and I did 2 miles at the track and then came home and cut the back lawn after my husband cut the front. Feeling pretty good, Now to get in more cardio this upcoming week. One thing I almost always do is get my sleep in. When I ran a 24 hour day care I could live on 4-5 hours of sleep. My body was programmed for that since people depended on me. Now people still depend on me and I know that sleep does my body good. I may have to tape a show or get a nap but I get my sleep in. I will put in the time maintenance to make sure there is time for that.

If I should have an interrupted night I pray and read my bible and even in the bible I talks about sweet sleep and I ask God for that.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

I want to go back to Europe. I travelled a bit with my dad when he was in the military, but I was too young to really appreciate it. I would also like to go to Australia.

I just got home, SUCH a long day. I'm trying to get in some points, but I keep falling asleep typing. I am at 20. Let's see if I make it all the way.

Today is my lucky day! I got 25 points for being on Sparkpeople for another 30 days (I think that's the number), so I got a bonus spin, which gave me 5 points. Three points for my previous post, and 25 for spinning the wheel today, and I was up to 58 points in less than a minute! I wish I had bought a lottery ticket today!

Challenge (Friday): Met--see above.

I've got to get to bed, since I have to get up early in the morning. But I'm so keyed up that I'm certain I won't sleep well. The food pantry (for which I'm Executive Director) and my church (for which I'm Missions Chairperson) are teaming up to present a cooking class tomorrow morning. We have 5 food pantry clients who completed their applications and were selected to attend. One of the ladies from my church (she's also a food pantry volunteer) will be leading these 5 people in making five complete meals, which we will all get to sample. Then the five will get the groceries to make those five meals at home, as well as whatever kitchen supplies (stock pots, cookie sheets, plastic storage containers, etc) that they are lacking but need for making these 5 meals. You know the Chinese proverb that says, give a man a fish and he eats for a day, teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime? That's the idea in doing this class. If we can teach folks to make good nutritious meals that are budget friendly, perhaps they can improve their lot in life. I'm kind of a Polyanna, and I'm always looking at the positive side and expecting the best outcomes, so I'm thinking this is going to turn out to be a very positive thing for these five people. But I've been having some doubts about the whole thing for the past couple of days.

I'm going to go try to get some sleep now.

QOTD (Thursday): My favorite superhero would probably be Superman.

QOTD (Friday): I would love to drive to Alaska! If they would hurry and build a bridge between here and Europe, I'd love to visit northwestern Italy to see if I could locate the home of my ancestors. (I don't like to travel by plane or by boat, so a bridge is needed!)

Challenge (Thursday): I didn't really make a new recipe, but I did eat an apple with some Nutella on it. I can eat Nutella all by itself, but I really like it on a whole grain thin bun, and now I like it as a dip for Fuji apples.

Challenge (Friday): I don't have my 50 points yet, so I'm going to go try to get some before the clock changes. I'll be back to report!

Keep forgetting to ask has anyone tried out the new feature with the exercise and nutrition plan? I was going to try it but when I read that you couldn't change it back if you didn't like it I had second thoughts . If you have tried it do you like it? Friday - Question of the Day

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

I would like to visit every state in the USA. Then I would like to go to London, Paris, everywhere! Been to Canada since it is only 45 min away from where I live. I would like to go farther north into Canada. Just been close to the border. Went to Roosevelt's summer cottage in Canada. Very beautiful place.

I would love to just travel and see how other people live.

Thursday - Challenge

Try a new recipe or food. I have never tried real cherries before. They always came from a jar. They had some on sale this week and my son talked me into trying some. I loved them. Even when they are on sale they aren't cheap. Maybe I can treat myself every once in awhile.

Would have posted this yesterday but had unexpected company last night. Had a good time just very surprised. emoticon

I do NOT care for cruises or flying so I would opt for somewhere within the USA or maybe Canada. I would like to visit Canada so that would be a great choice. My mom took my son on a 3 week bus trip to Canada when he graduated high school & they had a grand time.

I love to travel. First I would go visit my siblings in Missouri, California, Indiana, and North Carolina; really not only love but also like them. I would love to see Puerto Rico and other islands with dh. for overseas would start with Australia. Really there is so much beauty in all the world--not only natural but also the people. Because I do not Luke to be cold Antartica would be my only bypass on travel.

Anywhere with water and an awesome beach. So any island will do... I too am a home body and usually only go places because I want to see family.

I got 14 hours sleep last night.. which was way too much because my back is killing me.. As for points it's my first time on today so I'm not sure yet.. I'll let you guys know later..

I got the cookbook yesterday so I have earned 540 Spark Points so far today. emoticon

emoticon of the day: If I could travel anywhere I haven't been yet, I would go to Hawaii, Jamaica, Spain or Rio. If I could go someplace I have already been, I would love to go back to Japan for longer than a week this time. Maybe I could get my fiance to take us on our honeymoon to one of those places when the time comes! :)

I'm going to clean the room and read my cookbook to try and plan my meals for next week. I also got my XBOX 360 back yesterday so I plan to set that up and hopefully start working out with it in a month or so. I walked the dog today a block or so and I was NOT in pain when I was done so I see that as an encouraging sign.

I love to travel and see new places. I would love to go to Australia, Spain, England, Hawaii, Ireland, etc. I also love many places in the US. I went to Nyc in 2006 and have been wanting to go back.

Who is your favorite super hero? Such a funny question because I'm knee deep in super heros right now because I've been planning my sons 5th birthday party that's this Saturday. I wanna say Superman because he lives his life, but also wants to help people. He doesn't want the recognition for what he's doing he just wants to help.

Good afternoon Jammers. I laid down for my nap this afternoon - but didn't really sleep. I usually can't go back to bed only a few hours after I get up - even if I sleep poorly overnight. I did doze off a bit here and there, and DH laid down next to me. He slept well, which is great. We always end up going to bed so late - usually close to 11 pm and then we get up so early. Anyway, I will be heading down to Vegas in about an hour. I will check in from my phone. Good luck to our folks who weigh in over the next few days.

Super Hero:
If you are referring to cartoons, the only female growing up that had special powers was Wonder Woman with her special bracelets.

If you are talking historically, I have always admired Esther of the Old Testament who was willing to risk her life to save her family and people.

If you want character in my life, it would be my mother. She was wise beyond her education and threw her support behind her husband and children to reach their dreams.

Unable to try new recipe as on very restrictive diet right now. Did get plenty of sleep.

TH QOFTD: The Wonder Twins (Activate!). gave me a giggle to think of them! :)

TH Challenge: i added nectarines to my green smoothie today for a pleasant change of pace.

Thursday's challenge- New foods, kind ot hard for me because I've tried ust about everything available. Did get pumpkin blossoms including the greens at farmer's market. Putting some in my veggie soup. emoticon
Didn't notice a question for today.

Hey Lori - I'm with you on the sleeping thing. My husband's cell phone goes of with the text message from the truck driver driving the newspapers down from Salt Lake City anywhere from 4 am to about 5:30. This morning they were a little later, but bladder called. After I get woke up in the middle of the night, I have difficulty going back to bed. I will lay down this afternoon and try to get a nap before I work tonight - I hope I can sleep even a little. Otherwise, it will be a very long day and long night until I can go to bed tomorrow morning.

Thursday QOTD: Favorite Superhero? I don't really have one. I never watched a lot of TV growing up, and I pretty much don't watch television now. I just don't have time for it. I sit and crochet or read if I have down time - which is very rare with my household and work.

emoticon Thursday QOTD: Who is your favorite superhero?

Storm from the X-Men! We used to play X-Men in elementary school all the time and I was always Storm because I thought she had the best powers. Poor Rouge, she had it worst of all of them in my opinion. Never being able to have a real relationship because of her powers :( Sorry went off track for a second there. Storm was my favorite and I think Halle Berry did a great job in the movie.

As for real life superheros, if I could just throw this in, firefighters and any type of emergency worker; doctor; nurse; etc are always high on my list. They put their lives in danger every day to help other people and that make me proud!

Thursday challenge: I already tried two new recipes this week! Cheesy Hamburger Casserole and Ground Beef-Potato Casserole from the Spark Recipes page. I'm also getting the SparkPeople cookbook (hopefully today) and I can't wait to try those recipes. Sorry for the long winded post!

Happy Thursday everyone
I hope you all are well.
I am not sleeping very much this week
Both my husband and one son are starting work at 4 am, so I am up and moving then too.
On the bright side of that I have changed the bedding , done two loads of laundry and cleaned the kitchen well.
96.8 degrees here yesterday afternoon
Today they are calling for a humidor value of 109
Our house is comfortable so we are ok here.
I hope all of you in the heat are handling it well.

QOTD (Wednesday): I can't think of any motivational quotes that are favorites, but perhaps my most motivational Bible verse is Philippians 4:13--I can do all things through Christ, who gives me strength. When I think I cannot do something, this verse is a good reminder to me.

Challenge (Wednesday): Done. I took a nap this afternoon. I actually intended to just rest and watch a tv program I had recorded, but I ended up falling asleep almost immediately and I didn't wake up for over an hour.

Not doing well on the streak for the week. Sleeping is always an issue for me. I have trouble getting to sleep, and then I have trouble staying asleep, and then I have trouble waking up from sleep...not really waking up, but functioning after waking up.
