Sassy what works for me is the small steps. Dont change everything and go all gung ho. Try to do 10 min. of exercise nd log your food.Dont try to eat perfectly just log it. Then try to add a bit more vegies and fruit. It will soon becomne second hand. Doing too much all at once is what made me fail the last time. emoticon

I was almost finished last night, then lost connectivity. Bah!

Brownsugar, don't rush the knee--you may be pushing it a little too fast, too soon, because you're raring to go. I wrenched mine last month--had never injured it before, and it took a little more than two weeks to feel ok. I still feel twinges, because I think I went too fast. It really isn't something you should push through, like a muscle. Lots and lots of ice, say my runner friends. One suggested something I really liked--buy cheap was rags and a plastic plate at the dollar store, soak the wash rags, put on plate and freeze(mine froze as one form, but maybe waxed paper?). Use as needed. They were so much easier to keep in place and worked as well as I e bags or frozen peas. SparkPeople has a great seated cardio 11minute routine that will allow you to keep up. More important than all that, so glad this turned out to be something of small magnitude (though no doubt awful!)--big thanks for that fact!

LeighR, glad the operations are behind. Can someone spot you for a few hours of sleep? ; )

Oh, Sassy, I went through this on Spark several times, so I feel for you. You are here and that IS what counts. I silently slunk away those other times. You may already be doing this, but I think sticking to the 10 min of exercise streak is really helpful. And dancing in your room is a powerful way to get rid of some emotions and bring on the happy! We're rooting for you, and you can progress. The birthday is over, it's a new year!

7 days a week or a special tips weekend sound good to me!

Contined exercise streak yesterday with 27 min walk, 31 mins dancing (pretend this is a Sat post). Faithfully tracked

I'm having a really hard time committing to this guys.. I fell off the wagon some time ago and I just cannot seem to pick it back up again and start doing this..

Anyone have any suggestions of what they do? It was my birthday yesterday and I got really down because I have started my weight loss journey a million times, but the first of this year I really kicked it into gear and I thought I would have lost more by my birthday. I can't help but get down about it and over think it. Blah!! I really hate it when I get like this.

I hope everyone had a great weigh in. Even if you didn't lose your here and that's what counts..

Do you read or subscribe to any health related magazines? If so, which ones?

I don't subscribe to any magazines. It's just too expensive right now especially if I have the internet and can really look anything up I want to read.

Friday - Challenge

I do eat fruit and veggies all day. Friday I put some peaches in my water, brought an apple and some grapes to work with me and ate some squash.

I am late on the weigh in since I just got off work. I maintained.

Saturday QOTD:
I am ok with either this is my first challenge with you guys and I'm still getting the hang of it so whatever works for the team.

No, don't currently subscribe to any health magazines, but do read different ones from time to time. Diabetic magazines, Woman's World, and Runner's World. Used to enjoy Weight Watchers magazines, but money is tight & I cannot afford to buy or subscribe to them right now.

Had apples fixed several different ways. Was trying to find healthier options eating "fast food" at hospital. Whatever happened to the cafeterias where they served pretty good food? Everything was prepared ahead or extremely greasy.

Thanks for the great ideas. I enjjoy the quiet time i get wheen the kids go to the community center. The community center just started 2 dollar per person haircuts and eybrow waxing which i signed up for. I cant wait. My friend is saying i need to put a certain amount of money away but i cant. I barely make it paycheck to paycheck and that is with government assistance and i live in rent geared to income. I am glad people here get it. My friend doesnt. My kids are growing like crazy and they tear things and ruin shoes.....it is so expensive.
Thank you so much for the support it really helps.

Today was another eye opener to money saving tips. Since I have been home with the children until the last one just turned 18. My desire is to find a job outside the home, I guess God is saying not yet Felicia. Trying to find ways in the house to turn unused, gently used items into funds. Will be starting that again hopefully on Monday. Still sorting through over 27 years of raising children and marriage and running a family daycare and paperwork. Mentally trying to do it as though what would I want to take with me if I were downsizing. emoticon

Lisa, Im a stay at home mom and my last child just turned 18. I agree with one of the other ladies. If you would like a facial then you may have to have a do it yourself facial. A slip for a free do it yourself pedicure. Soaked feet, Vaseline and nail polish, Things you can pamper yourself with around the house. It won't always be like that, believe me I know. Even if you just have a quite zone to read a book undisturbed for 10 minutes. Start with where you are.

Lisa: I am don't have any money right now either. I am keeping track of which activities I do and how much they give me on a Word document. I just wrote down the dates for the month and add on as needed. Then I plan to add up how much I "made" at the of the month and put that amount in my savings account when I get a paycheck. Hopefully, I still have a job. No one has called to tell me yes or no. I really like my job and I hope to continue in it. I was on my second day of training when the accident happened. I really hope they let me come back.

Re: Weekend Questions

I like the break on weekends. I try to check the nest to see if I need to support or encourage or celebrate with our team members.

Got back from the beach but feeling like I might have a slight fever. Got out to get something for family to eat but not much more. Hoping I can get to church tomorrow as I got the kids post cards and they soon will be promoted to third grade.

I Love the Monday - Friday Question and Challenges of the day.
Why don't we post a LET'S SHARE A TIP OR IDEA each weekend?

we had a good response to that last weekend.
I really enjoy them, and I get alot of great ideas from the team.

share an idea or tip on how to reward, pamper yourself without spending a lot

Lisa's post made me remember a couple books I bought years ago by Diane Irons on Tips and Tricks for Looking Great and Feeling Fabulous.
I remember loving these books.
I just dug them out

this week has been rough I was so sick but now am slowly recovering. Had to have antibiotic shot and cortisone shot, plus oral meds and prednisone in bed for 5 days now. Weight is back up but sinuses are clearing, as it ears, throat and chest. I ignored my sinus infection long enough to let it take hold everywhere upper respiratory wise. I can now breath out of one side of nose and head is not going to explode. Nurses make the worse patients because we think we can cure ourselves. Hope you all have had a better week than me but will refresh and restart my efforts now that I know I am going to live. ha! ha!

Lisa about the nest egg thing
I totally get it I was in that situation as a single mom after my first marriage for a number of years. It is tough to be creative sometimes.
I think a nice bath with some baking soda, salts, lemon, etc is a real treat , then maybe take the time to lotion up.
a facial scrub and mask,
pluck and shape your brows,
deep condition your hair.

So many times we cheap out on time for us as people. I know I certainly have.
Even 20 or 30 minutes in the evening when the kids are settled
Spend time on something pampering that you normally don't do for yourself can be a super reward.

Personally I know I am the most neglected one in my house. (Heck even the pets, get more time and attention then me.)
I need to take back a little more time for me again.

Saturday - Question of the Day

Would you like to see questions of the day and/or daily challenges posted for Monday - Friday as they are now or on the weekends too?

I would like it to stay the same because for me the weekend can get really busy and sometimes I don't get on line until that evening. If you do change it can you post it at the beginning of the week so that if we can't get on line that morning we will know what to do for that day? I would have no problem with it if that is the case.

Lisa, You could keep track of your nest egg on paper, if you want. It can help you see that you're making progress when the scale is not cooperating.

Joann, sorry to hear that your group is disbanding. It sounds like a wonderful thing to do. Maybe you'll be able to find something new that is just as fulfilling.

BrownSugar, you may be retaining extra water after your accident, especially if your knee is still swollen. I know it's so frustrating seeing a gain on the scale.

Joann- I feel for you and pray something will turn up that you will enjoy as much.
Lisa- whatever you can do will lift your spirits, so participate however you can, even if its only a paper, make-believe egg. it's a tangible way to see your progress besides the scale. Even a 10-minute soak in the tub can be a great treat you can allow yourself if you reach a goal you set in points.
Brown sugar- hope you heal quickly.
Back from my running around this week. I do not do well with food during travel. I hope I can stay home for a month or so, but don't think that's too likely. Anyway, This will be a better week. Got a kettlebell set and raring to go.

Saturday - Question of the Day

Would you like to see questions of the day and/or daily challenges posted for Monday - Friday as they are now or on the weekends too? i like them and would like them everyday.

Don't forget to pad your Nest Egg.

Make a "Nest Egg". Use a container like a jar or small box, make a slot in the lid large enough to put coins or dollar bills through, tape the lid closed (this money shouldn't be used) and decorate it so you cannot see inside of it. We would enjoy it if you would post a photo of it on your spark page and let us know when you have posted it. Throughout the month you will be building your "Nest Egg" with the following:

1.) Put 10 cents in for every glass of water you drink each day
2.) Put 10 cents in for each freggie you eat each day
3.) Put 25 cents in for each 30 minutes of exercise you do each day
4.) Put 25 cents in for tracking your food each day
5.) Put 25 cents in for getting 8 hours of sleep each day
6.) Put one dollar for each pound you lose during the week and 10 cents for each 10th of a pound.

I hope to be exercising by the week after next. At least 20 min a day. I'm walking every day, trying to get my knee back into shape. I hope to lose at least one pound by next week. I'm not going to lose 5 pounds like I wanted to. Sorry about the rant but I to get that out.

QOTD: I really would love to have QOTD and challenges every day. I look forward to checking the site every day and seeing what the question or challenge is for the day. It's like Christmas every morning! :)

Joann, I am really sorry to hear about the group disbanding. I can see how being in a group like that would be uplifting to your spirit and healing to the people who received your love and attention. I hope you find something else just as great to be a part of. Also, I think it would be really good for you and the patients for you to visit them regularly. Good luck to you!

Good morning, Jammers!

Saturday - Question of the Day

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Would you like to see questions of the day and/or daily challenges posted for Monday - Friday as they are now or on the weekends too?

Don't forget to pad your Nest Egg.

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

At the end of the Challenge we will open our "Nest Eggs" and report how much money we have earned. This money should be used to reward yourself for a great job done.

Week 1 244.9
Week 2 248.5 up 3.6 pounds

I'm hoping this gain is due to the foods (high sodium) that I have eaten in the past 3 days. Will be drinking lots more water and I hope to flush this gain out this week.

Have to go with my daughter today so I hope to be able to come back and answer questions but wanted to get my weight in.

Thursday QOTD

How do you feel about "cheat" days, or days when you can eat anything you want and either don't track or don't attempt to stay in your calorie range? Do you use them regularly or occasionally?

I don't believe in cheat days because I go absolutely overboard and eat EVERYTHING that I havent eaten while dieting. It always ends in disaster for me.

QOTD (Friday): I don't pay for any subscriptions, but somehow I receive one for persons with diabetes. It's called Health Monitor at Home. Eleven of the 28 pages are advertisements in the most recent issue, but there are some pretty good articles. "I Won My War with Food" was a really good article about Al Roker and his weight loss efforts.

Challenge: I just fixed a snack of asparagus cuts and tips. I recently found some small bottles in the bargain aisle at the grocery store....$1 for a 6.5 ounce bottle. I doubt that I buy them again, as some of it is kind of woody and there isn't much taste. But it was worth a try. Probably wouldn't be bad to put into a soup.

Today was kind of an emotional day. I've belonged to a group called "Joyful Noise" for the past 9 years, and today was its final day of existence. For over 15 years this group has gone to various nursing homes in the area, 2 per day for 3 days a month, singing and spreading the love of Christ to the residents of those facilities. I especially love going to one of them, as it's where I did my rehab last year after two different hip surgeries. I love keeping in touch with the staff and the residents who are still there from my visits. So I guess now I'll just have to make it a point to go up once a month on my own. Love the hugs and smiles that I get when I'm there, and today the physical therapist actually watched me walk and did a little therapy on my right hip.

Y'all have a wonderful weekend. I'll be checking in tomorrow morning with my weigh-in...As of this morning, I've not had a loss but maintained from last week. We'll see what tomorrow brings!

Diane - I hope you're feeling much better tomorrow. Take care of yourself.

Hugs,
Joann

Hey everyone! Thanks for the supportive words! My doctor said I'm basically okay; just to ice my knee and let my other wounds breathe as much as possible. I am walking without the cane and a lot better today. My knee still goes out from under me occasionally but that is slowing down as well. I forgot to ask about when fitness would be okay but I assume it would be fine to progress as I feel up to it. I can't wait to start exercising again! I walked around really well today for about 30 min total. I didn't get to eat an apple though. :( So, I'll sign off for now and see you tomorrow for weigh in and question of the day! BTW, I'm enjoying the QOTD. I feel like I'm really getting to know people reading the responses. Thanks again everybody! The people on this site are the greatest!

Playing catch up again because of this computer. Wish I knew what was going on with it.

Thursday - Question of the Day

How do you feel about "cheat" days, or days when you can eat anything you want and either don't track or don't attempt to stay in your calorie range? Do you use them regularly or occasionally?

I don't really have a cheat day. I always need to watch what I eat being a diabetic. If I have something that I don't normally have I do it at noon time on Tuesdays. But I plan it so that I don't have a problem later with high blood sugar. I have kept this under control for 2 years and have not had to take my meds for this and I don't ever want to go back. I have very strong motives to keep this under control. Now I'm off the subject at hand. The only things that are off limits are foods that I need to watch out for because of my diabetes and not because of weight. As long as I keep an eye on the carbs they are not off limit. Everything in moderation.

Thursday - Challenge done emoticon

Pre-plan your food for today. Did not get to post it because I had problems with my computer again. Really need to know what is going on with it.

Friday - Question of the Day

Do you read or subscribe to any health related magazines? If so, which ones? I don't subscribe to any magazines but a friend gave me a couple subscribtions. They are Health and Weight Watchers. I also get a magazine called Tops News. That comes with my membership with Tops.

Wow, Lisa! Was something radically different this week? Hope it's contagious

Brownsugar, so glad you're okay. Be extra kind to that knee. More ice, maybe? Give your body a chance to heal before you go hog wild with that motivation! : D

Kept the streak alive--27 min walk
Health magazines? Nope. By force, they have to recycle the same things over and over

Fruit or veg with an A? Very challenging when I want a peach! It will have to be an apple

Hi everybody. I'm still in a lot a pain but I am healing slowly. I haven't worked out since the accident but I see my doctor today. I'm going to see if I can get some better pain medication so I can work out a little more. I have been walking a little but I am going to try to walk for a straight 10 min without stopping today. It's mostly my arm with really bad road rash on it and my knee was swelled up like a balloon. Wish me luck at the doctor.

Friday QOTD: The only magazine I subscribe to is Cosmopolitan :) Sometimes they have health related articles.

Friday challenge: Will eat an apple today.

Good evening all. I glanced through all the posts, but will have to get caught up on Saturday when I go home from work. The internet is not working where I stay, so I only have my phone.

Thursday QOTD: I don't believe in cheat days as others have stated. It has a very negative connotation to it. If I let myself "cheat", then I tend to binge or find excuses to not be strict with my eating plan. That caused me to gain these last 2 weeks while I was at the wedding and allowing myself to eat "whatever" because it was a celebration. Just an excuse. I want to be healthy, and that means eating healthy. Occasionally treats are acceptable for me, but I know I must watch myself.

Congrats to all the losers, and good luck to those who weigh in tomorrow.

God Morning July Jammers

Pray you all have a blessed day today.

Welcome Bestme

Happy Birthday SassyAngies emoticon Have a great one

Joann that's what I have been doing also, The last child just turned 18 this year and graduated. We went in to change our will also, since there was a guardian in place that would take all the children until they were grown and now they are so a set of Godparents were released from that assignment. Going through boxes of paperwork and will continue to work on the other boxes of stuff until it is all gone. Purging the things we kept as a just in case for the children. Daughter went to register for classes so Im hoping I will have more time on my hands to get that moving this year. Take your time you'll be surprised what you find.

The liquid diet is where all calories are from high protein 15-30 shakes that are very low in sugar less than 6. Other non caffeinated beverages that are sugar free, clear broths, and sugar free jello. This is for two weeks prior and two weeks after.

Oh, Brownsugar, so very grateful that the serious accident didn't deprive us of you! I hope your discomfort is short without major injuries. And that you recover swiftly

Tleight. Hoping your family's surgeries go very well tomorrow

Exercise streak continues--26 minutes

I advance plan my foods daily now, and did it today, too

QOTD: I'd be scared of a regular cheat day weekly. Once a month or two? Okay, but I'd track it

Thursday question of the day

How do you feel about "cheat" days, or days when you can eat anything you want and either don't track or don't attempt to stay in your calorie range? Do you use them regularly or occasionally?

My computer just froze and deleted what I thought was a well written response.

Anyway, in short, yes and no, but neither way is working for me right now. There are pros and cons to both and I always manage to fall off the wagon either way.

Also, I could not track my food today. Sorry! I *normally* do, but I've been kind of out of it this week. Hope everyone is doing better than me!

I can do it!

Good evening all. I hope everyone had a great day!!!! I am exhausted... I am sad that I did not get my walk in today... I know that it is very difficult if I do not get up before work to walk. some mornings are harder than others. I am going to be early so that I will not sleep thru my alarm tomorrow... to walk...
I look forward to tomorrow. Good Night all.

be safe everyone!!

QOTD (Thursday): I kind of like the idea of a cheat day, but I wouldn't want to go to extremes.

Challenge (Thursday): Plan all my meals...done, although not too far in advance. This evening I had veggie burgers and salad, with canned fruit for dessert.

I had a good day today, although a bit emotional. I rewrote my will, changing the allocation of my stuff. I did a lot of paperwork for the food pantry, but I still have tons more to do. And I went through a lot of boxes of old medicine and eliminated about 84 containers of pills. It nearly filled a #10 fruit can. Not sure what I'm going to do with the can, now, but at least the pills are gone. Next thing on my list is to go through about 5 boxes that are in my guest room...I'm not sure what is in those boxes, but I'm about to find out.

Hope y'all have a great evening!

Hugs,
Joann
