Hey I tried the whole "Don't dope and eat" motto for the last two nights in a row, and have stayed in my bed. emoticon Last night was actually really hard, but I stayed with my commitment. It paid off - today was my first weigh in - I lost 6 pounds !!! emoticon
I know that wouldn't have happened without your advice - emoticon So Much !!

I am on a medication that increases deep sleep and there are people who have actually had episodes of sleep eating on it (it can increase all parasomnias). You are definitely not crazy. Medication can do very strange things to you.

The idea of eating protein right before bed is great. Doing this helped me sleep better too.

I don't take that medicine. But when I do take mine before I go to bed, I usually make sure I eat something. If I go to sleep usually no problems. But if I can't sleep then I find myself in my kitchen eating about anything I can get my hands on. Good luck.

it is a very vulnerable time for the mind and body in that space before sleep finally does come. But do eat something with protein when you take your pill or before you go to bed, so you can have a satisfied belly before you go to bed.

Hi LYNNWILK2,

Thank you so much !!! I now know that I'm not crazy ;) that it does happen to others. I can have willpower of steel all day long and then turn into an eating machine when I'm in the state after taking my sleeping pill !! It is very discouraging and I have been tempted to throw in the towel.
I LOVE the "don't dope and eat" :D It will really help.
Thanks again,
~K

Katwest... this used to happen to me all the time... now I when I do go to bed to go to sleep (long story there) I always, ALWAYS eat something with protein: cheese protein, string cheese, etc.. my tummy is full and when the thoughts of a food come to my mind, I realize that I am "drug" but I still have the ability to make choices and, it took time, but within a short period I wasn't doing it anymore because of the semiconscious decision to NOT get out of bed, the food would be there in the morning if I still wanted it. But I wasn't hungry, so I really stopped thinking about food pretty much all together.
I know this is tough... and it takes a lot of effort, especially when you have taken medication that lowers your ability to make good choices- I think of it as don't "dope" and eat... like don't drink and dial, or drink and drive, don't give yourself your meds if you are hungry, the protein prevents low blood sugar and also is filling.
Good luck. Hope this helps a bit.

I do great all day making healthy choices and I have been tracking everything.
Then I get ready for bed, take my zopiclone, and I am actually in bed -
almost asleep - and I start thinking about food that I could eat in the kitchen.
I then get up and inhale hundreds of calories !!!! Sometimes I don't really have a
clear memory of what I consumed the night before in the morning !!!

Has this happened to anyone else? and if so how have you dealt with it?

I have tried putting pictures and positive things on my fridge - but when I'm in that
state I don't really see them. :(

I have tried not taking the zopiclone - but then I don't sleep.

Please help !!

Thanks,
Kathleen
