Thank you for sharing your story!

I am in the process of being diagnosed for narcolepsy. Like you, I remember having a hard time staying awake in class all the time and I'm just always exhausted. I've been told my whole life that I am just depressed or too negative or lazy, and now I know it's that my brain isn't doing what it's supposed to be doing. I'm so excited to do my sleep test soon and find out what is really wrong with me. I haven't started my new medication (Ritalin) yet because I'm waiting for the sleep test, but I'm really looking forward to having a possible solution soon.

And hey, my new meds are not nearly as expensive as all of the coffee I was drinking!

Thank you for sharing and hooray for you getting enough sleep! emoticon

I have been diagnosed with sleep apnea and use my CPAP machine every night along with taking tylenol PMs (I dont like the way ambien completely knocks me out). Now I am being treated for restless leg syndrome to. The only problem is I am STILL tired ALL the time! I remember falling asleep in class all the time. I'm always falling asleep at work and cant get a promotion because of it. I'm so frustrated! Your story really spoke to me. I feel so much like you! I just want to cry thinking about it. I'm so frustrated! I'm going to the doc again this week and hoping they will just refer me to an actual sleep doctor. I have 3 girls and I feel like I am missing out on everything. My husband wont even take me to the movies because I just fall asleep even after sleeping in the car on the way! I am going to be more pushy about this. Thank you so much for sharing!

I take provigil, which is related, for idiopathic hypersomnia (which is very similar to narcolepsy). it's amazing what the right diagnosis and drugs can do for you! getting diagnosed changed my life.

I'm on Nuvigil and it is the best thing that has ever happened to me. I got my life back! I have suffered with narcolepsy since I was a child. I remember always being tired or asleep. But my parents and family would call me lazy and pick on me. I would even get punished by my parents for sleeping too much during the day. I failed out of school for sleeping in class and never being able to stay awake. Then I raised my four children in a sleep daze. I would cry at work because I would be so sleepy and I would take naps in the bathroom. I just wanted to go home and sleep. It took 36 longs years before my doctor diagnosed me with narcolepsy. When I did get to sleep, nothing could wake me up from my naps. I would wake up and feel like I was drugged and in a foggy daze. Of course I was told for years I was over weight, depressed or just a mom with four kids. I was skinny up until 6 yrs ago, so I wasn't always overweight.

If you feel this way, ask your doctor about narcolepsy and make them test you for it. It's a two day long sleep study. Nuvigil is expensive but it works, it keeps me alert and awake. I get so much done now. My youngest who is 10 said to me, "I like your new medicine, all you use to say was how tired you were and you would sleep all the time, now you are awake and want to play with me all the time". How beautiful was that and how sad that she missed out on 10yrs of having her mom around. Get the help you need.

When I fall my Lord Jesus picks me back up.
