Yes Princess, Ambien if taken correctly is a wonder drug. I can't imagine where I would be without it. Well, probably "zombified" somewhere for sure!!

Get some rest...

I have tried everything under the sun and moon to get to sleep. I have clinical depression, anxiety issues, and fibromylgia as well as a sleep disorder dealing with brain waves so there are a few different things going on causing my lack of sleep. That would be the first thing I would talk to your doc about. Are you depressed, anxious, in pain, etc? I have trouble falling asleep, staying asleep, and wake up way too early. I also sleep best from 4am -10am. So my doc has had to come up with quite a cocktail to get and keep me asleep, ranging from antipsycotics to antidepressants with a antianxiety thrown in. Unfortunatly while this mix was putting me to sleep it was also inhibiting my weight loss so we tried to switch to some drugs that don't have the same weight gaining/retianing issues that seroquel has..but so far out of 7 nights I think I have only slept good 1 or 2. My doc gave me samples so I didn't have to pay for a full prescription if it doesn't work. The reason I am going on and on is to say there may be other meds besides the usual sleeping pills that can help you sleep and if you find something that works and your insurance won't pay for it, like the posts below say, have your doc appeal it. It usually works or they will suggest something similar that they do cover or tell you what you have to try first before they will cover it..I think they call it step therepy. Hope this loooooong rambling helps.

Medications can be a great way to get your body's natural sleep habits under
control/regulated. This can be a wonderful stepping stone to nurturing sleep.

(Consult your physician to see if this may be helpful)

Good lucky my insomniatic friends!

ok don't hold it against me, but i actually pay and deny claims for a medical insurance company..i know i know..but it pays the bills....i went thru the same thing, our insurance changed and i was on lunesta and it was going to cost me $158 for a 30 day supply...so i did some checking and talked with my pharmacist and they suggested temazepam (which is a generic for restoril) and it comes out to $7.00 for a 30 day supply, maybe you could speak with your pharmacist and see what they might could suggest..and by the way i have to pay for the whole entire prescription, i don't have a copay, i have to meet a $2700 ded. before my insurance pays a dime...anyway it worked great for me...good luck with it!!!!!

My doctor gave me samples and then a prescription for when the samples ran out. Insurance did not pay but after a few more sleepless nights my doctor got the medication approved. I was about to pay for it myself but thought if I did that, it would be harder to get the insurance to cover it. emoticon

When I had trouble with insurance covering some sleep meds, my doctor wrote them an appeal. She had to explain why I needed them, what other things we had tried, etc. This was particularly the case when some of the cheaper drugs didn't work and we had to go to some of the higher tier/more expensive drugs. She has been able to get them to make exceptions for me for several higher-cost drugs, higher than normal dosages, etc. So be sure to enlist your doctor in fighting your insurance company, too. Good luck!

Well, I recommend you ask your dr. about getting some samples. If you explain your situation - about insurance not paying- he/she might provide you with some samples of different products. I've had one doc. do that for me before. That way you can see if one works best for you. If you're in that bad of shape maybe they can prescribe one for you and you can just take it every other day until your body gets adjusted to it.

HI Dalmatica,

I hope you get everything worked out for you with your insurance company and the sleep problems. I feel for you. Hang in there and don't give up. Sleep is first and formost the most important thing to have. I hope you can get Ambien, thats what I take and it seems to give me some sleep. Good luck!

It still amazes me how much sleep can change everything. I'm sorry you're going through so much hassle with your insurance. My insurance bites too. Keep us posted. BTW, Exedrin PM works for me - at least for a little while...

I'm so sorry you are having these problems. Insurance companies drive me crazy. For many reasons.

There is an article in this months Real Simple magazine with lots of real life things to try to help with sleep. I'm going to try some of the suggestions. I've been on Ambien for yeats. I'd like to sleep without it. Maybe some of the suggestions will help you.

I agree, you should call your insurance company and find out what they will pay for. Lack of sleep interferes with our life so much and the insurance company should make it easier to obtain medications that will help. Good luck to you.

I'm so sorry that you are so frustrated. You might want to call your insurance and ask them what they will pay for.

Hello, I'm new here...and *really* struggling with sleep issues. It's been ongoing for a while, my doctor finally put me on something which my stupid insurance does not cover. Sooo I will have to wait until Monday to get something else. I want to request Ambien, I was on it for a while and it did the trick.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm pretty sick of my sleep issues effecting my ENTIRE life. It gets to the point where I dread sleep time, it's a vicious cycle..some days I will deprive myself of sleep for 24 or more hours..this is at least twice a week. My sucky terrible insurance will NOT cover anything to help me sleep...I don't know what to do. I've tried everything, meditation, valerian, melatonin. And of course this is hindering my weight loss to end. I'm frustrated to the point of tears.

Instead of giving myself reasons why I can't, I will give myself reasons why I CAN!
