Thanks. Amazon's Kindle store also has free books for downloading too. Anything that the copyright has expired or new writers looking to establish themselves. I suppose that is true of the MP3 store too.

Hi! I just thought I'd add a quick note that in case you didn't know, Amazon offers hundreds of free music in their MP3 store. It's usually up and coming artists and occasionally someone you've heard of (Bob Marley the other day). If you're looking for new music there are some great tunes offered and you can download straight to your iPod. I have an entire new workout playlist that is all free music that I downloaded a couple of weeks ago.
Just thought I'd share. Have a great day!

I t must have felt fantastic, sort of like getting a good nights sleep with the cpap for the first time in years or losing 50 pounds and discovering I could walk up the driveway without stopping, only better.

The cochlear must be a lot of fun. I am assuming that birds and rain and train whistles are much more interesting too.

@ GRAMMACATHY: Yes you should look into an MP3 player. You can put ALL of your favorite CDs on there and have more variety during walks and they also have apps for working out and tracking. If you just want a basic MP3 player, they have some reasonably priced ones that will still give you the benefit of a variety of music as you walk.

I have a portable CD player but it skips when I walk. I suppose I am going to have to invest in an ipod or something.

I listen to music and track my mileage on my cell phone. If someone happens to call I can take the call and keep tracking the workout and the music pauses. But I usually try not to answer calls when exercising because it slows me down. Yesterday it actually was a benefit because I had planned to walk 2 miles and my boss called several times and needed me to help 2 clients. While helping them on the phone and I went ahead and walked 4 miles while talking. I am sure the heavy breathing was awkward, but I sold $5000 worth of policies AND walked 4 miles. emoticon

Well Cathy I have a CD Player in the Livingroom
But my DH has Altzheimers and has completely gone off music, so I don't hardly play anything
in there any more.
So I have it all added into my Computer so I have double fun when I am on the Computer with all my friends, and also listen to music which I love. Hugs Rosalyn

Grace Kelly

What a hoot. Love the high notes!

I think because I grew up with older parents and my grandma I did not gravitate toward the music so much. I would rather play it than listen to it. I like to hear the trains rumbling in the distance and the birds chirping and the cattle bawling.

Still, there is a lot to be said for influencing mood. When I am down, Faith Of The Heart inspires me.

Had great fun listening to Back Stage Pass at 13 Nights on the River. I wanted to get up and dance. Maybe some of their music would get me to walk more.

So what do you use to listen to your music on?

I like others am very drawn and influenced by music. I have found that what keeps me motivated on a run is not what might keep others going. I try to choose music that not only has an upbeat sound and rythm but one with lyrics that I actually want to listen to, sorry Rhianna but S&M maybe in the right BPM but I don't like the lyrics.

Some of my favorites are: Jordin Sparks (I like a lot of her stuff), Taio Cruz, Cher (I know I'm dating myself there), Britney Spears.

My #1 motivational song: Grace Kelly by the Whiffenpoofs (sung live on the Sing off) I don't know why but every time I hear this I smile and pick up my speed.

Music with a fast beat keeps me going. It can be any genre really, I usually don't listen to the words when I am exercising. Especially when I am on my exercise high and I am really pushing it. The music is in the background and my legs move according to the beat when I walk. I notice when a slow song comes on I walk slower, and when a fast song comes on I am flying. I make sure to keep the fast songs playing. If I do happen to know the words to a song that I like and it happens to be a strong, fast song that is a double bonus. :)

What music inspires you to keep running, finish washing dishes, calm down, fall asleep?

Music works on the brain at the chemical level and can be an important tool in our health goals.

Thanks KLMP78 for the suggestion for the topic.
