It has probably been over 20 years since I have been through Grants Pass. Thank you for the wonderful description. I looked some of the bears up on the internet. They are much more complex than the Victoria bears.
Hell's Gate....Is that on the Rogue River? There is a trip I have always wanted to take too.
They are the life-sized statues, but painted as murals, each with a different theme (one, I think, is Oregon Trail, and another is pears, there is one at a must visit restaurant (& park on the river) of a small bear with a dragonfly on it's nose, and one of the river and the Caveman Bridge-aka the 6th street bridge here in GP) There are also a few baby bears around that were done a few years back (2 years in a row, I think), that were auctioned off for charity…
it's hard to remember, but they are all beautiful and worth seeing if your in Grants Pass during the summer… our downtown is beautiful, lined with American flags and hanging flower baskets, the bears… I try every year to take a day and "do the tourist thing". It's not the smallest town I've ever lived in, but downtown, feels like it. :)
Oh boy! first I'd show them the Covered Wagon Park here in Oregon City which is the end of the Trail. then to the O.C. elevator and go up and down and view the Willamette River. of course we'd o to the coast and then I would introduce my guest to Weird Portland downtown. I'd show them the beauty of the Portline sky line and a moonlight ride on a Dragon Boat and we'd join Cathy on kayaks And plan a hike up Mt. Hood
Since I live in Columbia County, I would take them to visit Downtown St. Helens, just because it is kind of different and goth. I would also take them kayaking in the Scappoose Bay and slough and then maybe go on a picnic either at Trojan Park or McCormick Park. Both are beautiful.
