I walk the Park blocks to work and back every day, rain or shine. I have a stationary bike, videos and free weights at home so I kind of pick and choose there, depending on my mood. I'm thinking of joining a gym this winter so I can get some swiming in.

Good for you Kelly, our four legged family members need exercise too.

I'll probably just keep on keepin' on down a the gym, I'm pay, so I might as well use it, and it does me so much good, mentally as well as physically.

Rain or shine, gotta walk the dog. If it's a short walk I'll use the eliptical.

Hi Debra and welcome from Eugene... You're just a hop, skip and a jump up the freeway!!

Personally, I think the treadmill is boring too, although I watch TV while I'm on it - and if nothing good is on, I try and keep a few things around that I've taped. At least it helps! But, I do try to get outside to walk when it's not too cold and too wet and ugly..

During the rainy season I either go to the gym or I have weight lifting, treadmill and a stationary bike to use here at home. I hate the treadmill because it is so boring to me. I sweat hard on the bike so I tend to use it more. But, I do change it up to keep it interesting.

Re-introduction. I'm Debra and I live just outside of Salem. I'm getting back on track with Sparkpeople this week. I've been training with a trainer at the gym but we're cutting back on expenses so now I'm doing this on my own again.

Since I live in an apartment it's hard when the weather is bad. Because I can't do any type of cardio that makes noise for my downstairs neighbor. If it's just raining, I can go to the gym. That way the weather is never an excuse for not working out. I can't say "it's too hot" or "it's raining."

Now in the winter when we got snowed in, that was hard. I went a little stir crazy!

With my treadmill I can pick up more on the cardio and the breathing than I do on this bike. It's the kind with the big seat. I don't ride until I'm sweating like I do with my walking on the treadmill. As for the body parts it seems to work on the same areas. Both keep my body moving though. I got both at a Yard sale for 10.00

Debbieanne, I have a question... You say you have both a treadmill and stationary bike. What sort of differences do you see on each. I would think they would both use about the same muscles? I have a treadmill, but was kind of thinking about a stationary bike, just for "something different". and wondering besides the variety, is there an advantage of one from the other??
I also will walk in the rain if it's not too cold and/or windy. I like to walk outside weather permitting, but when its too cold, it hurts my breathing.
Anyhow, just curious about the bike/treadmill thing.. Thanks, Bettyor

I have a treadmill and stationary bike and both come in handy in the bad weather days. But i do my Dragon boat practices 3 days a week even in the rain. But if there is lightening and thunder and really heavy rain we postpone and do workouts ina pool.
I am often seen taking long walks in the ahrd rain. But you won't find me walking in the snow.

What changes if any do you make to your Exercise Routine in Winter.

I am always making a change here or there so as not to get bored with my exercises or to keep my body from reacting adversely to them. I have quite a number I can do so change them out.

Water is very important for us. We may, and I do, require more than the 8 glasses a day. The link goes to a water calculator I use to see what I need for my current weight. Mt requirement has dropped 9 ounces due to weight loss. Yipee!
