Hi Beth!

My daughter and I did the Pig last year as walkers (well, we registered as runners so we could run to help our time - if you register as a walker you can only walk or they'll pull you). There IS a time limit, however - you have to be able to walk a 16 minute mile to complete the full marathon in the time limit (they follow along with a bus and pick up those who fall behind - we spent the last several miles with it breathing down our necks but just managed to stay about half a mile ahead of it so we were able to finish).

That said, there's also a half marathon (starts out with the marathoners, then the course splits and they double back about 1/4 of the way in), and they have a 5K too. Yes there's a fee, and it goes up soon if I'm not mistaken - check out SHEENADEE's link for more info.

Hi Beth,

Yes, they allow walkers. I'm pretty sure all distances are open to walkers -- not positive about the full marathon; but, I know walkers are welcome for the 1/2 marathon and shorter distances. Definitely the 5k has walkers. There is a 5k, 10k, 1/2M, full marathon, a relay, kids events, etc.

It is a huge event, lots of people crowding into town. I live here but this will be my first year attending so can't tell you anything from first hand experience. But, results from 2012 had almost 31,000 walkers and runners participating and something like 200,000 spectators. Just a heads up that if you are thinking about it, you need to get hotel reservations soon. They book up for anything nearby pretty early. Oh, and yes, there are fees for all the races. The prices are at the link.

Do they have walkers there? If so what is the distance? I can do a 5 k, but it takes a long time. Tina is not a racer, has a bad hip. Can we bring lawn chairs and hang out too? What is the atmosphere like? First timer here. Is there a fee?
