A reminder that the June thread for goals is out there. Don't forget to wrap up here and then post your June goals over there. Here's a link to June goals -

I'm pleased to say that my major goal was starting the Spark "5K Jogging Program" and sticking to it, and I did. I did weeks one through four of the eight week program in May. I'll do weeks 5, 6 and 7 in June. More on why only 3 of the weeks over in the June thread. See you there!

I have 'stepped back' since my bout with the pulmonary emboli thinking that I could no longer work with goals. WRONG!! I find I need them more than ever.
L
1. I'm neither to gain or lose weight (I'm gaining)

2. I must exercise 1/2 hr. a day to hopefully get my lung capacity back.

3. I need to watch my diet and not eat lots of things that interfere with Coumadin and getting my pro time regulated.

So, I do need goal setting and accountability.

I need to have a goal around regular maintenance of my trombone slide. When I got the horn out to play after many months of not playing...wow.

I also have some other goals that I track on a regular basis. Like practice my trombone twice a week or participate in a social function once a month. When we started using this accountability thread, I actually meant that we could track any goal and report it back here. So I am glad that you mentioned other goals. I will be thinking about what other non-weight, non-fitness goals I might want to work on in June.

Feel free to come here to report on your progress. I hope that we can all encourage one another in pursuing our goals.

I really want to track them with a group - I try doing things on my own but it's far more motivating when people say "buck up" or "that's awesome" and I do the same ... and the accountablility, that's really huge.

I really want a group of people to do that with ... so if I can do that here as part of "we're setting our own goals for the month" thing that would be wonderful.

I think you should set whatever goals you want and track them however you want.

As a friend of mine once told me, being "financially mature" (his words) is not a date on a calendar but a way of life. (This was something I was trying to have him understand so it was cool when he "got it." It's also a lot like developing healthy habits for eating and being active.) So if setting financial goals in an accountability forum is what you want to do, then go for it.

I just found out about your team and joined up! So cool!

I have other goals too, but not really exercise or nutrition related (I'm pretty much at goal and have my exercise & etc. in hand) but I DO have business / investing goals I'd like to set and report on and have support for.

Does that work or is that not appropriate? So far I'm not finding any appropriate place, which I can understand, I'd just like to work toward more in my life than nutrition and fitness.

Oh, and since I'm doing another virtual walk with another team, I'm going to start on June 1 so we're starting the same time and I can post the same numbers.

I'm catching up on reading SparkMail and found a message entitled "10 Things I have Learned On My One-Year Anniversary." Sounds like things we have discussed over here occasionally or stuff that I've read in various folks blogs. Here's the text of the posting and I've included a link to the thread if you want to go over there quickly and read some of the responses. This is from a Sparker called ZEN_WOMAN.

1. Losing weight is hard!
2. Being fat is harder!
3. I rather be fit and healthy than fat and unhappy.
4. Giving up is not a good option.
5. Set backs are inevitable.
6. Overcoming setbacks can make your stronger (if it doesn't kill you- just kidding.)
7. Stay in the game long enough and eventually you will hit a plateau.
8. Pushing harder doesn't always yield the best results.
9. Listen to your body and take a break when you need to.
10. Reach out to at least one person everyday on SparkPeople. (Friends or strangers, it doesn't matter.) It helps and keeps me accountable.

Hope you have a great camping weekend Owl.

I just finished strength training #8 for the month.
And I finished week 3 of the 5K Jogging Program. Monday I have to run my 2 miles outside, since it's a holiday and I can't use the treadmill at work - well, I could use it, but why go into the office?

Have a great weekend everyone.

It is a good question about exercise and stress. I know that I cut back on my exercise while I was job hunting, but continued to try to find opportunities, so I didn't ever stop.

I think the most important thing for me at this time when I have more stress than usual is to continue a routine and to make deliberate choices to eat well and move more.

I am camping this weekend, backpacking actually. That makes the food choices more challenging. So I have entered my planned food into the food tracker for Saturday, Sunday, and Monday and will be taking it with me. It is imcomplete and might not go as planned, but I will be making notes on as I go so I can enter my food and be accountable when I return on Monday. This worked fairly well for the last camping weekend, and I am hoping for an improvement this time.

Have a nice weekend everyone. I probably will not be able to check in again until Monday or later.

I use exercise as well as a stress reducer. I find that if I miss exercise, then I'm less able to cope as well.

I love Spark because I can discuss what work outs I'm doing and I don't get the OMG response. So in that way, it's a stress reducer because I only have a couple of (3D) friends who I can share with.

I use exercise as a stress reducer as well as breathing exercises, relaxation techniques and long baths.

So here's a question for my pal Owl. Given all the stress in your life in May of this year, have you found that your coping skills are better because of Spark, no any better or worse, or not helpful at all?

In general to everyone - what do you think? Are you better at dealing with stress because Spark has given you some coping strategies?

I think for me, that when I get stressed out and want to eat to soothe myself, I do an internal dialog with me asking if I'm eating because I'm hungry or because I'm stressed - or not eating for the stress reason.

Comments? Thoughts?

Oh, and I did strength training #7 yesterday for May.

Yup, it is quiet over here. I have not been able to spend too much time focusing on my goals except for tracking my food and fitness. I am over my calorie range about the half the time and the scale is showing the results of that. Today was my first day at my new job. Hopefully when I get more settled, I will be able to focus on my goals better.

Okay - it's way too quiet over here! How is everyone doing with their May goals?

I was likely over calories for Friday. I did not record anything due to not have internet access and frankly being "bad." On the other hand, the choices I made weren't awful. I had very nice boiled shrimp for supper in a restaurant in Morehead City, NC on Friday, but only ate half, and I did eat the slaw, but not more than 3 or 4 fries.

Planning on going back to completely good behavior on Monday, but I did enjoy a relaxing weekend with the girls at Emerald Isle, NC.

I haven't been eating well or regularly this week. I have made it back into 170-ville (from 180-ville), so that is good. I should have gone to bed when I got tired last night, but didn't. You can guess what happened....

Today, I baked cookies for DD who is leaving on Sunday until October some time. I wanted to send her on her way with goodies for her road trip (first to Utah, then to Montana). Yes, I had a few and the batter was really good.

I am off to band right now and plan to eat something good for me when I get home later. Tomorrow, I resolve to get back into a better eating routine.

Went over calories by about 150 yesterday. That wasn't terribly horrible. I think it was because I should have gone to bed when I got tired!??!

Ran Day 3 of Week 2 of the 5K Jogging Program - 1.5 miles. I'm headed to the beach for a long "girls" beach weekend. I will walk, but no jogging this weekend. Week 3 of this program starts with a 2 mile jog, and my legs need some rest.

Owl - didn't notice your list of staying in your goals. You are on a roll! Good for you.

I've been in the calorie range Monday and Tuesday this week. Breakfast and lunch are packed and ready to go for today, and there's a plan for dinner. A plan is what it takes for me, so I have good feelings about today.

I did strength training session #5 just now, so even though keeping up with that is not a goal for May, it's happening anyway.

I appreciate all your support. May has started out a hard month to stay on track with the goals I set for myself. In the past I may have let myself give in and say "forget it" but not now. I have come a long way and I am worth it. So, even though to date I have not begun the intense weight training as projected, I have not and will not give the goal up. Success will be mine yet.

A recap of goals this month. I stayed in the calorie range Monday through Thursday last week. Friday I was a bit over.

Although these are not goals this month, I now have 4 sessions of strength training done as of this morning, and I've completed my first pass of week 2 of Jogging my Way to a 5K. Because I decided to start with week 2 rather than week 1, I'm doing week 2 again this week before moving onto week 3.

After I post this, I'll be only 7 points away from 40,000 SparkPoints. How cool is that!?!?!

Me and the Wheat Thins had a meeting last night after dinner. Good thing it wasn't a full box. emoticon Obviously more than 300 calories. But I still managed a calorie deficit of 100 even though I went over my calorie range.

I have already eaten out of the package today, but have slapped my hands and resolve to not do it again today. I have a nice dinner planned and there is not much food in the house, so there shouldn't be too much munching after dinner. Sleep might be a better idea.

Have a great day!

I'm on my way upstairs, and this is day three of staying in my calorie range. Hurrah! That's pretty good for me, and it hasn't been easy.

Owl - read your blog and I'm cheering for you. Just keep remembering how good you feel when you eat right and exerise and focus on that instead of the stressful items. It's easier said than done, I know.

Jen - sorry about your loss.

Jen, sorry to hear about the death in the family. Great job on the cardio. The weight training will start soon, I am sure.

I stayed on track yesterday: no more than 300 calories after dinner and also I did not eat out of the package. On top of that, I had a 700 calorie deficit. Hopefully by the end of the week, I will be able to negate the calorie surplus from Sunday.

I noticed when I measured myself that I gained 6 pounds since March 1 and my measurements went up accordingly. I hate measuring when I know they will be bigger. On the other hand, I lost two pounds in April. Slow, but I will take it.

I was in the calorie range today - hurrah! That's a two day streak.

I also did Day 2 of Week 2 of the Jog a 5K program. Tomorrow I do cross training, most liklely the elliptical trainer. Gotta rack up those miles.

And I was up at 5:30 doing strength training.

Not too bad a day!

Just a brief drop in to mention that I did get up with the birds at 5:30 this morning and I did my strength training. While this isn't a specific goal for this forum this month, it is session #2. My arms ache.

It feels like life is throwing me a curve, a spiral maybe. I caved in last night, but am resolved to step back on the path.

Just as I posted on the Golden Gate post, I did not make it to the gym to begin my intense weight training for May. The last two days we have had severe weather (torrential rain & tornados).

I am not giving up. Life always throws you curves; you just have to adjust.

Hope everyone is having success.

Derla, I am glad you are back from the hospital. Do what you can.

I followed thru on my goal on Friday and Saturday. Sunday was a bust, but I am back on track today.

Had a good day.
- stayed in the calorie range
- did a good deed which you could read about at the Golden Gate Bridge walk over in the Challenge forum
- did Day 1 of Week 2 (decided to start with week 2 since I can run/jog a mile) of the program to get me to be able to jog a 5k eventually. See www.sparkpeople.com/resource/fitness

rticles.asp?id=598

- ran into a friend after my adventure (over in the Golden in May thread) and went out for grilled chicken and a salad, and still stayed in the calorie range.
- The plan for the morning is to get up with the birds at 5:30AM and do my strength training

Today is my rest day (Sunday's are always so hectic around here) but I did do the Sparkpeople 10 min. Cardio Kickboxing Video (I joined the Sweatsuit to Swimsuit Bootcamp team for May).

Tomorrow will be my first day of starting my intensity weight training. Wish me success.

It is my goal this month to very slowly get back to my walk each day. I ended up in the hospital and now have to gradually get back to walking but probably not the 2.5 miles I was doing last week

Up my cardio- walking to 5x a week for at least 30 minutes or longer.
Focus on following the meal plan to stay within ranges.
Those are the two goals I have for May.

No matter how you feel, get UP, dress UP, and show UP!

Faith is not just believing God can, its knowing he will.

Don't audit life. Show up and make the most of it now.

I am working on a 100 day challenge which I blog on so I will spare you all the details here. But for the easy ones...

I am on day 9 of a 100 day challenge to walk 10,000 every day.

I am going to spend May on rededicating myself to the 4 Golden Rules of eating...

1. Eat when I am hungry
2. Eat what I want and not what I think I should
3. Eat very slowly and very consciously
4. Stop when I am no longer hungry.

May 1st = 12,000 steps and + on the 4 GR's
2nd = picnic in rain did not meet goals:~(

Goal: At least 30 minutes of intense, feel-the-burn strength training three times per week.

I want to schedule some resistance band exercises for this month, but I really need to take the time to do my back exercises, so I'm going to make that my goal... and finishing the Plantation to Golden Gate walk before the month is over.

I'm not going to have the Strength training and the jogging as specific goals for May. I think I'll manage to do them anyway.

My goal -
Stay in calorie range on weekdays.

I have had these two goals for the past two months. In April, I actually met my goals a couple of times each week. So I am hoping for better progress this month.

1. Do not eat out of the package (eat only measured portions).
2. Do not eat more than 300 calories after my evening meal.
