I didn't do well on staying in my calorie range so will try again next month. Also will add more consistent exercising to my goals for April.

My March goals were to stop eating out of the package and not eat more than 300 calories after dinner. I ate out of the package more days than not. I managed after dinner eating about 50% of the time. I think I need to continue with these goals in April. See you over there!

Overall, I do not think I had a successful month for reaching my water goal. I will definitely continue to work on it next month.

3/28 1016.7 - 1.7 = 1015.0 miles to go

I have lost my good pedometer, the one that tells the steps and the miles. I am going to have to go get another one. I have figured out how to get miles from the amount of steps I am taking, so that is a good thing. Plus I don't know if the pedometer I lost tracked my steps better, but with this one I am not walking as many steps, even though I am moving the same amount . . so I don't know if the other was more "sensitive" or just what is going on? Oh well, I am moving and that is all that matters.

Well, I dropped another pound finally! Thanks for all the encouragement - it truly helps. I, too, have a problem with too much sodium and not enough water. I think I will make those my goals for April.

I did not meet my water goal today but I am not giving up!!

My weight has been fluctuating alot the last couple of weeks too. Frustrating. I just noticed that my sodium has been high this week due to the carrot soup I have been eating for lunch and bread pudding, which somehow has higher sodium than I think it should. I will have to cut back on sodium next week for sure.

Plastic containers are my life. I personally use three or four of them each day for my breakfast and other food until supper. And I use more of them in the kids' lunches too.

I like the guacamole idea. I have not done it before and am ready for a change. Thanks for the idea.

Last night, I made it through without eating out of the package AND no calories after supper. Yay!

Jen - the scale will move again. Been there, been frustrated by it. You might consider making some small changes - maybe adding a strength exercise or two. When you build muscle it takes more calories in to maintain it, and sometimes that makes the scale jump down.

Hang in there!

Thanks for the guacamole recipe VB - I have just recently discovered that I like avocado after years of saying "yuck". I think I'll try your recipe on for size.

Owl, I am trying not to get discouraged because my scale seems to be stuck! However, I recognize that my clothes are fitting differently, so I can see results that way. But the scale can be frustrating.

I again made my goal of 6 cups of pure, fresh water. Yippee!

Plastic containers are my life and my life line. I have lots in the freezer with single portion meals. I also pack my lunch in them most every day - peanut butter & jelly sandwich, an assortment of sliced red peppers & baby carrots and sometimes grape tomatoes and this week a single serving portion of Guacamole (1 avocado mashed with a fork, squeeze in 1/2 of a lime for zippy lime juice and add garlic to taste. I use a garlic press to get really fine garlic) for dipping the veges in. Yum!

My breakfast is also a salute to plastic containers. I measure a single serving of a frozen berry - mostly cherries, but also raspberries and blueberries as well - into my plastic breakfast bowl and top it with Dannon Plain nonfat yogurt the night before. In a separate plastic container is one serving of my favorite Cascadian Farms something or other granola. That goes to work with me. My routine is to stop for coffee at the Caribou and hang with the regulars there for 15 or 20 minutes and then later at work, a bunch of us eat breakfast together. We have one oatmeal guy, but the rest buy something in the cafeteria. Bet you can guess who the fittest among us are.

That's all for my rambling salute to plastic!

Oh, should add, that if you make my Guacamole that the result is 4 servings not one. My calculations show that a serving is about 81 calories.

Avocado has "good fat" and to me it is very tasty.

Yay for Norma Jean! A new goal!

VB, you are right about the single portion thing. I used to do it alot, but stopped because I was bugged about using so many plastic bags (costly and disposable)...and I hate reusing them. I have tons of plastic containers though. I am going to think about that again. Thanks for the reminder.

Made my goals last night. No package eating and no calories after dinner.

Owl, have you thought about - I know you have - preparing some individual servings of these things in packages that you like. Then in your cupboard you have "Owlwho's Single Servings" portions and you keep the package some other place where you try not to go....

Great job, YORKIELYNCH! Keep working on those fruit servings.

And I will keep working on my goals, as well. Last night, I ate out of the package and also more than 300 calories after supper. Not a pretty sight.

Jen, that's great. Good for you!

I succeeded at both my goals yesterday (no eating out of the package and eating less than 300 calories after dinner). I was disappointed, however, to see the scale creep up one pound today. emoticon

Finally! I am back on track with my water. I made my goal for 6 cups today even with all the craziness at work.

I, too, did not gain any weight while on vacation so I count that as an accomplishment, too. Like, VB, I ate what I wanted just in moderation plus also did a lot of walking.

Hope the rest of this week brings more accomplishments for everyone.

Welcome back, VB. Missed you! Fabulous news that you didn't gain while on vacation.

Remember that our goals do not have to start on a particular day or month. We can restart our goals each day. For today, I will restrict my calories to 300 after dinner and measure out my portion instead of eating out of the package. This, I can do today, even if I didn't do it yesterday.

Actually, I think I did fairly well over the weekend. I tracked most of my food, and while it is over my range, it is not in the "binging" range that I know it could be. I ate some popcorn and pretzels out of a package, but stopped after a handful or two.

It sounds like you had a wonderful time!!! That is the way to do it, not eat until full. I have a tendancy to keep eating when I should stop, might be part of my problem. Anyway, it's nice to have you back!!!

Thanks Jenn. It did help that we did an awful lot of walking and that while I always ordered something I wanted, I never ate all of it. And I never ate until I felt full - stopped short of that each time.

Thanks Jenn for the welcome back.

I'm getting back into the groove here. Did my weekend walking and am not yet tracking food - will do that tomorrow, but I am making good decisions about what to eat.

Got on the scale Saturday morning, and I didn't gain any weight on the vacation so that's a definite success.

I'm back from Disney. This is what I wrote before I left and some results.

Goals for Disney Trip
-relax - emoticon though I was in charge of details and making sure things were lined up for the day. But it went well, and my nephew at age 11 is very easy to be around.
-make good food choices - not always. We were on the concierge floor of the resort - got upgraded. And there was food around. But I never finished any meal set in front of me, so I guess it could have been worse.
-enjoy the time with Mom & Nicholas emoticon Most definitely. The best moment was when we all got drenched on Splash Mountain. The worst moment was when I had a moment of insanity and went on the spinning (read sickening) version of Mission Space. I did not really eat the supper set in front of me that evening. Then again, the nephew was very quiet. Neither of us actually got sick, but we were pitiful.
-laugh - emoticon - Yes, lots.
-don't let any little gotchas get me down emoticon There really weren't any little gotchas - really only a couple of we just adjusted.

Did I mention I missed all of y'all? I did miss ya!

Great job, you guys!

My goals:
1. do not eat out of the package. Nope. Ate popcorn, unmeasured.

2. Eat no more than 300 calories after dinner. Whoops....that would be above-referenced popcorn. emoticon

Still on goal, 17th, 18th & 19th.

Caught a cold, I really hate it when people come to work sick and cough and hack all over the place and don't even use a tissue or wipe down the phones they use. If they have to come in (and I know there are some very good reason for not being able to call in), they can at least respect that no one else wants to get sick. Yes, I am one of those people who tell others to please use a tissue to cover your mouth or even please wash your hands before you leave the restroom (I truly can't believe people do that, but they do!) Thanks for letting me vent!

Owl, I love just about every fruit you can think of. I just forget to take them with me to work, or don't have one for breakfast. I have got to get in the habit of eating my fruit. Plus I need to keep buying them when I am running low.

Now today I did good. I had my 2 fruit servings and have walked about 7025 steps today. If it is not raining this evening, I'll walk SuzieQ, my Yorkiepoo, and that will be added to my steps for the day.

All in all a very good day!!!! emoticon

Beautiful day outside. But I found I'm so much in the habit of sitting in my chair in the house that it almost took a shoe horn to pry me out. But I walked 1425 steps this afternoon - I was pretty tired by the time I got back to my door. I am hoping to increase this every day that the weather is nice. The rest of my goals have been badly neglected today.

Great job, Norma Jean!

Yorkie, what type of fruit do you like?

I had a lot of fitness over the weekend, so my eating habits were weird. I ate out of the package on Saturday evening, but rode my bike 27 miles on Sunday and ate less on Sunday, so hopefully, it'll all even out. I am on track today.

My trip to DisneyWorld is about here. So my goals for the time in Disney are to
-relax
-make good food choices
-enjoy the time with Mom & Nicholas
-laugh
-don't let any little gotchas get me down

I suspect we'll walk about 5 miles every day, so I'm not worried about cardio.

Will check in when I return. That would most likely be a week from today.

The weekend is here. We all need focus because we are stepping out of our weekday routine. What will you do to help you remember your goals?

I have a white board in my bathroom and write my goals on it, where I see it each morning and evening. Tonight is strength training and practicing my trombone.

I am going to add these goals:
1. do not eat out of the package. Yesterday? I did fairly well, but ...

2. no more than 300 calories after dinner. I grazed.

Unfortunately, I continued grazing this morning, eating about half of my calories before leaving for work. I am adding extra cardio today and plan that I will be somewhat over my range today. But there is that really long bike ride tomorrow, which should help to balance this morning.

Happy weekend!

Success, took my vitamins this am.

It has not been the best of weeks for me as far as posting everything I want to.

I have managed to (I don't remember when I last posted), but I have managed to get my 6500 steps everyday for about a week now (I just forget to post) and as for the 2 fruit servings . . about 1/2 the time - today was a good day!!! 2 fruit servings

Hope everyone is doing better and taking care.

I've been a slacker food-wise for two days. I've been really hungry and I had a cheese steak last night - didn't eat the roll & onion strings. Oddly, I felt less hungry today. I think I needed a jolt of protein. I was looking over the food over the last week or so -- since I've been tracking regularly -- and noticed that although I've been in all the right ranges for the most part, my protein has been low. So I'll have to take a look at that in detail when I get back from my vacation.

Anyway, today I was in the calorie range...somewhere around 1650.

I have tried that, but for some reason it isn't sinking in, I just walk away and start doing something else. Just having them in the bottle on top of the fridge isn't working either. I really hate taking any kind of pill. Even though I have taken these most all of my life, since about age 10, I have days where I think I am just plain adverse to doing it. A coworker just said that they have patients put a pill box in their purse or car glovebox. So if they forget before they leave the house they have an emergency supply and can take them when they get to where they are going or when they remember. So I am going to get 2 pill cases and stick one in my sparkpeople lunch bag, at least I can take it when I get to work or I'll see it at lunch time and take them. Thanks for the "A"!

Would it be easier for you to remember at night or some other time during the day? I keep my supplements near my toothbrush. I brush my teeth, take my supplements.

Went out of the house again without taking my vitamins. I am taking Jibbie's advice and getting a pill box.

I will velcro it to the front of the fridge (out of reach of cats) so I can't help but be reminded when I go for breakfast.

Jen, great job on staying within your calorie range.

NormaJean, vitamins goal: good goal!

Nancy, you are doing a great job.

I have been over my calorie range for three days in a row. My goals are:
1. do not eat out of the package. I ate blue chips out of the package, slowly. Picked up the package during a commercial and returned it to the cupboard during the next break. Not ideal, but better than eating for the whole show.

2. no more than 300 calories after dinner. Well, there were the blue chips, two girl scout cookies, two mini muffins and a no-pudge brownie. I would say "nope" to meeting this goal.

My food is planned for today. I just need to stay strong after dinner.

Traffic can be scary, whether on a bike or in a car. I am fortunate to have some bike trails and neighborhood streets to use.

Hang in there, VB. You have a great streak going.

I was doing pretty well yesterday until about 10:00 pm. I ate out of the package and ate too much of it. Crazy! Anyway, I had 12 hours of poor food choices (yes, this morning too....yuck) and that is behind me. I am back on a better track now. I might be over my calorie range by a couple of hundred calories because I refuse to starve myself for dinner because of poor choices in the morning. But I will be eating a bit lighter and eating more freggies maybe.

Had a good day yesterday, but went to the church board meeting last night. They eat before the meeting. The chili was acceptable, but I gave into the brownies. I figure I was about 150 to 200 calories over goal. Not too bad, but not ideal.

Owl, glad your ride went so well. If anyone can re-inspire someone it would be you. I wish we had better places to ride here where I live - I'm a little afraid of the traffic.

I have been so busy lately that I am having a difficult time eating enough calories (haven't had that problem too much in my life before).

However, today, I did get my 6 cups of water. Yeah!!

The bike ride was amazing! Of course, I dressed wrong. I am accustomed to dressing for a 15 minute ride, not a 45 minute ride, so I ended up overheating a bit. Had to remove and unzip some clothing along the way.

The door greeter said she was impressed that I biked there and would be more impressed if I had brought bells. When I told her I had two of them in my handbag, she laughed. It was a good time and great example to my sister's handbell choir, two of whom are inactive members of SparkPeople. Maybe they will be reinspired.

Saturday's food choices went well, even though I did not eat always according to plan. But I was careful. Did not eat out of the package, only 250 calories after dinner.

Sunday, I went over on calories and had 450 calories (instead of 300 max) after dinner. Not too bad considering my usual Sundays.

Don't give up what you want most for what you want for the moment.

If hunger is not the problem, food is not the answer.
