Hi Everybody - We're in a new month, so I started a March 2009 Goals thread.

By all means reflect on February here, but go over to March and post your goals there.

See you there and in Paris if you're on that walk!

Yorkie:
Truth be known, my food is my problem. I can get the walking in, I can do the crunches, and other strength training, but I am terrible with the food diary. That is going to be my main goal this month. I have to eat better. Breads and pastas are my down fall. If I eat one piece of pizza, I eat the whole thing, and the next day I will eat a boat load of carbs. Stopping is the hardest thing for me. But this is a new month, and I am going to focus on what I am putting in my mouth!
My second goal is 194.58 miles walked this month. I know it's alot, and I probably won't get it, but I have to walk that much each of the next 4 months to reach my goal of walking to niagra fall, and washington d.c. and home again before I take my first vacation ever.... I said I would walk it before I take it, so that is what I need to do.
Good Luck to you, good luck to us all....

Well it is the last day of the month and I need to be truthful . . I did not do the best this month. I have been thinking a lot lately on how I need to do better. Since I am older and probably starting menopause, the weight just does not come off. I think I have lost a total of 4 or 5 pounds these past 2 months . . emoticon and I am having to work at it. Course, I never could lose weight easily, but I guess the slower it comes off the better, but this is frustrating sometimes emoticon
March is a whole new month and I am going to do better and meet my goals this month. I will probably do the same goals and once I meet them I will then pick some other goals, but for now I am going to keep working on these two goals.

As far as my working out, that is getting better. I am trying to get a systemn down where I do my strength training on M-W-F and the yoga the other days. I am slowly working the "kinks" out of that and managing to get 2 strength sessions a week and about 3 yoga's a week . . which is better than what I was doing - - nothing.

I am walking just about everyday, so that is a good thing. I take part of my lunch and walk about 1.2 miles in about 20 minutes. I am getting ready to do the McGuire's Run in March and I am looking forward to it.

Anyway, that is it for now. I hope everyone had a great month and was able to meet their goals and can start on new goals. I will be doing the same 2 goals in March, but I will meet them and move on!!!

Bye for now

I didn't know you could count tea. I thought it was just plain water. I always have a cup of tea before work. I have a huge mug that holds 32 oz. I fill it with 1 once jiuce and the rest ice and water. On a winter day I struggle to get two finished at work ( melted ice included) in the summer I can finnish one every two to three hours. Then wit dinner I have a tea or a diet soda. That is my down fall. I do drink diet soda, but it has no caffein, no carbs, no sodium, and no calories....lol I call it cardboard.....lol But it is my one vice. I don't drink alchol, quit smoking cold turkey 2 1/2 years ago, so I guess I'm doing pretty good....lol

For exercises today they were non existant emoticon I guess the week got to me. I woke up at 1 a.m. and was a zombie all day. I passed out at 7 this evening, and here it is 10:45 and I'm up again. But I am heading back I will straighten out tomorrow.. Going desk hunting, so maybe that will get me going.

I need to reflect on February...but I need to do some other things first.

But about the water thing. Here's how I do the water thing consistently.

I have a drinking glass that sits on the kitchen table to remind me in the morning that I have to drink two glasses full. So I come down, drink a glass full of water, put my lunch in my lunchbox, pack up my backpack and before I go out the door, I drink glass number 2. It's about a 16 ounce glass, and so I have done 3-4 8 oz. glasses just by doing that.

I have a large drinking glass at work that holds probably 32 ounces. I fill that when I get in and finish drinking it with my lunch. Worse case I'm in the 6 to 7 glasses of water at that point. I drink a 20 ounce glass when I work out and then re-fill it on the way back to my office and finish it off when I get home.

I drink a glass of water with dinner--more if I haven't worked out and thus haven't had the usual workout glasses.

That does it for the day.

A fire would be scary. Glad everything/everyone is alright.

To get my water, I try to set mini goals. I drink at least one cup before I leave for work. Then I try to have one or two more before I have my first cup of coffee in the morning, aiming for 4-5 cups before lunch. Then I try to get the next 4 cups before I leave work for the day. If I have a big cup of herbal tea at the end of the day, that will bring my total to 10 or 11 cups.

We had several inches of snow during the day yesterday and I walked home in it. I ate something before I left, but between the snow and wind and falling on my rear, I was feeling pretty shaky when I got home. So I sat around and ate, thinking that I deserved it for all I had to endure. When I logged it this morning, I was shocked at how many calories I consumed. If this is how much I might eat on those weekends when I do not log my food, it is no surprise why I gain over the weekend.

I have lost 5 pounds this month, so it has truly been a successful month. I had a binge-free streak of 10 days. I plan on making today emoticon

Yes, I work in a factory, and some material in the main oven I work on caught fire. we aren't sure how, but it did. Flames shot up the stack as soon as the fire hit the air. It was scarry, but I found that I can handle myself during a crisis. Today was a slow day...lol I think I was worn out from yesterday. I got my stength exercises down in the morning, and only got 3 miles in today.. Not bad, but not great either.
3 fruits, and all my veggies. need to get my water....lol the story of my life.

You never know what a day will bring..... A fire at work brought alot of scrubing and cleaning to get it going again. But we did. I didn't get all my water, it was to cold to drink that much...lol I did get 6 glasses of water, so I was short only 2. I got 4 miles walked, I got almost all of my strength training in, all my veggies, but only 1 fruit. Hopefully I'll be able to keep up with you all. You are doing such a great job.

That brings my total to
Jan. = 80.67 miles
Feb. = 66.65 miles
Total = 147.32 miles

780.68 to go

I have always said that Wendys french fries were my favorite, but I really wasn't all that impressed with them yesterday and threw half of them away. I wonder if they've changed or if I have. The chicken sandwich sounds good, but I am a tightwad...the burger is on the cheap menu. emoticon

I've been thinking about french fries lately - but haven't had any. I try to always get the mandarin oranges with a grilled chicken sandwich and a diet coke or unsweetened tea when I go to Wendys.

Great on the steps, Yorkie. emoticon about the fruit. Eat it all up today.

Thanks to you VB, I am also working harder on getting my ST done. 11 times in a month is great!

I went over my calorie range last night, but there was no binging. I was out and about going to band concerts and was not able to get food until after 10:00 pm. And then it was fast food....Wendys. I ate only 1/2 of the fries and a small burger, but it adds up.

Did strength training this morning, so that's 10 sessions for February I believe -- need to check the calendar at home where I record this, and I'm at work at the moment. Should get 11 sessions in, which is a new record for me since I recommitted to strength training.

Great job, team!

I was a mere 10 calories over my limit yesterday, so I am calling it a success. The fact that I have a streak going on the evening binging kept me from the second box of candy hearts. I love those things!

It has been seven days since I had a binging evening and almost as many days since I ate out of the package. And think about it: I ate out of the package without emptying the package.

I have been in my calorie range for seven days in a row, even over the weekend. I did not get all of my water, but did fairly well on freggies.

Boy, this is a lot of work..... emoticon

I can't complain about the weather I have, considering I live in Florida . . most days are great to walk, except in the heat of the summer :-( I try to walk anyway later in the evenings, it helps a little :-)

as far as yesterday, 2/21 for my goals
6500 steps - yes, 14585
3 fruits - no, not even 1 :-( I am determined to reach this one before the month is out.

I made some blueberry muffins today, they are pretty healthy, just wish I could have used wheat flour instead, but I'll try that next time. Wheat flour is hard to sift though emoticon

Hope everyone has a great rest of the weekend and a great week ahead !!

Yay, Derla! It is great to hear from you and that you are starting to feel better.

Yesterday's calories were within range and I ate all my freggies. Today and tomorrow are my challenge days, but there is a plan for today. I just need to be determined, committed.

I am so thrilled. Today, I started (again) my first step in my goal of walking every day. I've recuperated enough that I walked 1/2 block to a neighbors for a cup of coffee and some conversation. I had to detour around icy patches, but made it without falling. It felt so good to be a bit active again that when I got back home, I cleaned out several drawers in my kitchen.

But my goal of a much healthier diet has certainly fallen by the wayside. DH is cooking the meals for me for a while and I really don't think Veggies or fruit enter into his vocabulary. Now Breads, and boxes of candy are high on his list.

YORKIE, keep working on it. We do not mind seeing the same goals being worked on over and over emoticon I, for one, have been working on my goal for over two years: stop eating out of the package. Still it gets me on a regular basis.

VB, a good review of your progress. I think it is important to continue to see our goals and any progress we make (or don't). If we do not think about them, we will forget about them. Hang tough!

HELEN, great job!

JANNERUN, I always feel like I'm racing for the goal, too. This month is going much better though.

I had a good evening with no snacking. I repeat, no snacking. What's with that!?!? Enough freggies, within calorie range. The scale released another pound of that water weight. I keep getting down to 178 or so and by Monday, I am back at 184. A viscous cycle that I must break.

I'm having an uneven several days. A lot of it is stress related. So today I think I am in my calorie range at the upper end. It was those samosas that were brought in by one of my coworkers that I need to research. They were filled with potatoes and peas, so I got vegetables. In fact I got lots of vegetables today - chick peas, tomatoes and black beans in my chili, a small sweet potato, carrots, broccoli and sweet red peppers. I kind of failed fruit - just a banana - but I've got to stop eating today!

The weekend was sort of okay and sort of bad. And yesterday I fell victim to a twisted Frosty at Wendy's which put me about 200 calories over. This seems like true confessions....

However -trying to focus on the postive -
- I can see my calorie range and today I am in it (I think)
- I am doing well with strength exercises this month. If I stay healthy, I should actually achieve 12 sessions.
- I'm racking up the miles in the 71 mile walk.
- My first pass through taxes are done and the number the turbotax is showing me isn't a number that I have to *pay*. emoticon
- I think my project at work is going to finally leave the building so to speak. (Sigh...)
- I get to work from home tomorrow as the town inspector is coming to make sure my gas water heater install was done correctly.
- I'm not eating everything in sight due to the stress at work.

So, I guess I'll just keep plugging away. By the way, it helps to hum happy tunes. Didn't we learn that by watching The King and I? Or was that Whistling a Happy Tune???

Cheers!

Thank You Owl . . I would not have thought of that. I manage to get my veggies everyday, but don't do the best on my fruit. I love fruit so I don't understand that ??? Oh well, I am going to keep plugging away and I will get there.

I got in all my freggies last night with a shrimp stir-fry for dinner. I forgot about the dry cereal I ate for a snack until I read your post, Owl, so I was probably right at my calorie limit.

Did my strength training this morning and need to get on the elliptical and get caught up on my mileage. I feel like every month I'm just racing to the finish, so need to do better on that.

Hang in there, everyone. We CAN do this. Freggies are FRuits and vEGGIES. I just lump them into one category.

I ended up snacking a bit too much last night, sending me over my calorie limit and eating cereal out of the box. I should have gone to bed earlier. I ate all my freggies yesterday.

I am a bit tired, so hopefully an earlier bedtime will nip those munchies in the bud. I really want to be inside my calorie range today.

I met yesterday's goals. No sweets, within calorie range, and 6 freggies. Unfortunately, I have alot of damage to undo from the weekend. Hopefully it is water weight.

Tough weekend for me. Busy, tired, and yes, ate more than I should have.

This week, I am cutting out more sugar. Not just the sweets like candy, but other things like granola and sweetened cereals. I will continue to aim within my calorie range and keep eating 6+ servings of freggies each day.

Hi everyone . . I have not been doing the best this weekend. I have checked in for the first tims this whole weekend . . doing things with my husband and house cleaning . . little things like that.

Saturday for my goals:
6500 steps - yes, 9119
3 fruits - not a one :-(

Sunday (today)
6500 steps - yes, 7086
3 fruits - no, but I had 1 at least :-)

Okay, tomorrow is a new week and new day and it is time to get back to work. I guess I slacked a little with my husband being off and it being Valentine's Day . . I should not use those as excuses . . I have got to do better.

Hope everyone else is doing great!

I wake up at 3 am everyday. It's the time I get up for work. I'm an early bird, but not that early....lol My goal is to do some workout before work everyday, no matter how little to get myself going. Didn't do well on the calories this weekend, I think I knocked them out of the park actually. I have to get back on track. I stayed the same on my last weigh in. I guess that's better than gaining, but it's still not loosing. I just looked back, and I have really been slacking in Feb.

Good morning early birds. I woke up at 4:15 thinking about work stuff and gave up trying to sleep around 5 or so. So I read for a while and then came downstairs to do my strength exercises. So that's session 5 for this month. So far so good. I think I'll do a few more chores and then shower and head out to see who is at the coffee place (Caribou) this morning.

Have a great day everyone!

Thanks to all for the prayers. I'm back home, but have much more 'getting back to normal' to do. I wasn't really expecting to feel so terrible - forgot to factor in my age, I guess. Right now, I feel like I'd been wrung through a wringer and hung out to dry. Hopefully I can start my walking goals next month.

Owl: What is your plan on waiting the 15 minutes? Does your plan help?

Doing good so far today on freggies and need to get in some strength training and 25 min on the elliptical tonight. I woke up really early with a bad headache, so went back to bed & skipped my morning workout.

Yesterday: Great on freggies, not so great on calories. I forgot to wait 15 minutes before indulging :-( I probably would have skipped it if I had remembered.

Hi everyone . . I didn't do too bad on my goals for today.

6500 steps - yes, I walked 8669
3 fruit servings - no, I had 1 huge apple though :-)

It is a process and I am slowly getting there, I am determined to make both of these goals by the end of the month. With the Lord's help I know I can reach them. I am taking it one day at a time. I can't look back on yesterday or look at tomorrow, I have to concetrate on today and doing what I have to do.

Sharing is a good idea, JANNERUN.

I was about 200 calories over my range yesterday and a little bit bingy (is that a word?). The good part is that I did not eat out of a package. So there is improvement each day.

I didn't do very good at all with the freggies, and there was one brownie left in the cupboard that kept calling and calling my name. I did split it with my DH, and made him eat the bigger half!

So today is a new day, and we are going to do better with the freggies! Need to go to the grocery store tonight after work and pick up some fresh produce.
