Cheryl ... I always eat before I exercise. I read in a Spark Article that you aren't exercising as efficiently if you exercise after your body has been without food or hydration for several hours when you first get up in the morning. My daily routine is to eat breakfast and drink at least 16 ounces of water while checking my e-mail (takes about an hour) then I exercise. I realize a lot of people don't have that luxury because they have to head out the door early in the morning to go to work. I started this routine when I worked the 3-11 shift so had plenty of time in the mornings. Now that I've quit my job I still have plenty of time to exercise in the morning :-)!

For those who don't have time to do their full exercise routine after getting a little nourishment in the mornings perhaps you can break your workout up and do part of it in the morning and the rest of it at lunch or after work.

I've been forcing myself to continue to exercise with Maya even though I prefer the Wii Fit in order to keep faith with this challenge.

NDPTATC ... how nice that you can stay with your daughter and workout partner while you're away from home. I like the idea of having face to face accountability and a cheerleader on the sidelines when you're exercising.

Claireese ... sounds like you have a lot of discipline and that's a big plus! Hope your dental appointment is painless and you have a good weekend. Are you going out of town for business or pleasure?

Cheryln, If I'm in a challenge, that's about all the motivation I need. I just can't seem to let my team down. My pedometer challenge and America on the Move teams are what gets me going every day. I prefer mornings but if I don't have enough time in the morning, I make sure I get my steps in by exercising in the evening as SOON as I walk in the house from work. In the mornings, I do have my clothes out, jump into them as soon as I am done brushing my teeth and stepping on the scale, my daily weigh-in also moves me to exercise right away.

I did 10 min last evening of Leslie's 10 min ab buster, the 3 fast miles of Walk Slim series. This morning I did 30 minutes on the treadmill. May have to do more this evening if I'm not close to my 10,000 step goal.

I'll be gone tomorrow for dental appointment and possibly out of town all weekend.

Have a great weekend!!

I'm at my daugher's while I attend a workshop for my job. She is also a SparkPeople member and we are workout partners--usually check up on each other a few times per week. But since I am staying at her home I will be using her treadmill and she will really be keeping track of me! Did some ab work and other strenghening and stretching tonight and will run on the treadmill in the morning.

ok, I finally got my fanny on the treadmill tonight. I will have to say the last time I tried using it, it would not start, also have to admit that I haven't tried in the last two weeks either. I also did some crunches.

Those of you that exercise in the morning (which I also prefer), how do you motivate yourself to get going? Do you lay out your clothes the night before? Other than walking outside last summer, I haven't been exercising in the morning. I'm always fighting with...do I eat first or not? I feel like I'd be nauseated when I get sweaty either way. I know this sounds like excuses.

Hi Gang!

Today's exercise agenda includes 30 minutes each of aerobics and yoga on the Wii Fit, the 5K with a Twist DVD (that's one of my new Leslie DVDs) and 15 minutes with the dreaded Maya. I keep trying to convince myself to give Maya 30 minutes of my time, but I haven't worked myself up to that yet.

I like this challenge ... it pushes me to work out with Maya, my virtual workout partner.

So how are we doing ND Sparkers on this weeks challenge of working out? Let's keep checking in and keep this forum active. I did get WATPs Heart Healthy Walk in last evening besides the treadmill in the morning but no time again this morning for exercise b/4 work. I don't like that because I do like to exercise better in the mornings and have that behind me. So again this evening I will have to do my strength training and aerobics after work. I'll be thinking of you ND Sparkers!!

Let's GO!! I can really feel spring, springing upon us. emoticon

Morning All ...

I got two new Leslie Sansone DVDs in the mail yesterday ... "5K With a Twist" and "The Bog Burn" ... I'm excited to try them out!

On the exercise schedule for today are 30 minutes each of aerobics and balance games on the Wii and one of the new Leslie DVDs.

I'm just finishing breakfast and checking e-mail and will be going upstairs to do my Wii Fit time in a few minutes. I'll leave Leslie until after lunch.

You're right Claireese ... we are all each others workout buddies because we check in with each other daily.

I don't have a workout buddy but I consider all my Spark People my workout buddies because I always think, I need to get my steps/exercise done and make my goal and if I don't, it does bother me that I have not kept my word on helping to motivate others to exercise. This morning I only had time for 20 min on treadmill and I do plan on getting at least another 35 minutes in of WATPs to meet my goal. So all I can say is:

Today was a good day for me. I got in 30 minutes each of yoga and aerobics, then did 15 minutes with Maya (my virtual workout partner), that horrible woman. She is such a slave driver!

Gosh, I guess I got lost in the shuffle with our group. Thanks Claireese for making me aware of my lack of posting lately. This is a good challenge.

Vee ... If Cathy isn't already a Spark People member why don't you invite her to join Spark People (and the Spark North Dakota team, of course). You'll get 10 spark points for referring her and she'll get access to all the wonderful tools and information here at Spark People. I'd call that a win/win situation!

I gave it some thought and finally decided to go the virtual route with my workout buddy. I'm going to exercise with Maya, the "personal trainer" on the Wii "My Fitness Trainer" game. I bought the game with the intention of having a more defined workout plan but have only used it three times. I do workout using the Wii Fit everyday, and have a rotation I use between the aerobic, balance, yoga and strength training, but this week I'm going to let Maya take the lead and tell me what to go.

I called my friend Cathy last night and she's on board to be my buddy for the challenge this week.

We have spent about 25 years trying to lose weight together and all we've done is managed to do is enable each other into obesity. Unfortunately she has a family history full of heart disease and diabetes. She has started increasing her activity with a challenge started at her job with the Red Dress campaign for women's heart disease.

We live about 20 miles apart so we are going to keep in touch by phone and email.

FEB 1-7 Find someone who needs a buddy to work out with, whether it's virtual or in person. Maybe you can be that spark for someone who needs to make being active a habit.
