If I can lose about 6 more pounds I should be able to make it. I really need to watch my sweets consumption - I certainly haven't been overeating carrots and celery emoticon

From what I've heard, bike shorts are really helpful. Even tho' I'd look ridiculous, I'd buy 'em if I thought I'd be riding frequently. On Wednesday I did about 10k steps around the new areas of my neighborhood in Mandan. We're South on 1806, then up the hill into a lot of Mitzel development. From my house I go up, or I go down. Have to do both to go anywhere. I'm getting stronger, or at least my cardio is. I don't have to stop to catch my breath, I just have to stop when my legs tell me to. I was amazed I wasn't sore. It took me more than an hour, tho. I'll have to see how many steps I can get in in an hour on a flat route.

Don't do more than you can manage. More embarrassing than not making the hill, is having to catch a ride with the sag wagon back to the start and home.

Bike The Border is a 3 day bike tour out of Bottineau this year sponsored by Val's Cyclery in Minot. It is 155 miles divided up into 3 days of rides.
Currently I am riding a new bike. It's a specialized Vita. The seat is what came on the bike right now. I haven't made a decision about upgrading or changing it yet.
It is a woman's seat and it's one of those hard skinny ones though it has some gel padding.
I have ridden 20 miles on it without numbness or chaffing. I do get a bit sore though. I am contemplating investing in real bike shorts. Look so tacky but my sister thinks they are the best. It's kind of a big deal for distance riding.
Checked out the route for Bike the Border yesterday. It's a bit beyond me at this point. To big on hills. The first day has a 5 mile climb and I am sure I wouldn't get through that. I just haven't got enough hours of riding in at this point to be up for it.
Have been looking at some other options but I am not sure yet.

What's "bike the border"? emoticon Sounds difficult. What kind of seat do you have on your bike? Brand name, everything. Going numb 'down there' was always a problem for me when I biked for more than half an hour.

I keep repeating to myself, "one choice at a time." I think I really have to look at this sugar addiction of mine like an alcoholic looks at liquor. My additional motivator will be having my A1C down to 6.0 this Fall.

What motivated me today was when my son who is 19 yrs old said mom your not to old to get through this wind. I told him earlier that I don't think I'm going for a walk today because it's to windy. That just gave me all the more reason to go....but I'm going to wait till it dies down later this evening.

I set up a small workout area near my computer so I can do some online workout videos for something extra. I don't do it every day but I do more than I would without it. Sometimes just the sight gets me going.

for me, what has helped me in the past 6 months really is to do SOMETHING active every day, whether it be crunches & a yoga dvd, or a walk/run on the treadmill, or a group exercise class at the gym. #workitout100 has helped me a lot in that regard. :)

Encouraging everyone to post a motivation tip that they have read, heard of, or practice themselves in this thread over the next 2 weeks.
I was listening to a rerun of a special Oprah with Bob Greene yesterday and he said something that I heartily agree with and have found helpful. He was discussing squeezing in as many servings of veggies as possible.
For myself I find I can eat and almost limitless amount of vegetables, maybe not potatoes but greans, peppers and anything I eat raw for sure and still lose weight. Fruit I try to watch as I can greatly overdo that. No one really should eat 5 bananas a day IMHO but I have done it!
