Hmmm... Shorter series... around 10-15 volumes or less? Less?

What types of stories do you like for manga?

I'm not sure I'd be the best person in this team to make a suggestion, because I suspect my tastes are a little different than yours. Detroit Metal City doesn't look like the type of story that appeals to me, and Death Note went downhill when "L" died, in my opinion.

"Hikaru no Go" has the same artist as Death Note, and is a favorite of mine, but that's 23 volumes. Categories: comedy, drama, tournament, the board game Go

If you like Shonen-ai, "Ghost!" in the Japanese release ("Eerie Queerie!" in the English release), is a series I like that is only 4 volumes long. Categories: comedy, supernatural, (boy) romance

Thinking of ghosts, if you enjoy ghost stories, "Ghost Hunt" is creepy fun, and is supposed to be 10 volumes in the Japanese (currently only 9 volumes in English). Categories: horror, romance, supernatural

Most of Clamp's works are 10 or less volumes long.

Maybe someone else has some better ideas?

Could I revive this topic?

I've not really read much manga, and I'm looking for some to study Japanese with. What can you guys recommend? ^_^ The bookstores here are chock-full of the stuff, so I feel like I'd be wasting a lot of time going there without at least a rough idea of what I'd like. :)

My preferences are for a shorter series, cuz it's going to take me a while to read it all. I've already read Death Note and Detroit Metal City, but that's about it.

Gravitation is more shounen-ai. It's a really sweet and cute anime that I fell in love with the first time I saw the first episode. It was also exciting to hear all that different music from there. Especially with the storyline of two bands competing against one another. I love it.

Anyway, here is the link...

Yeah, S&M isn't really for me either, although other hard yaoi does have its charm. emoticon My exposure has been limited to hard yaoi doujinshi though...

Thanks for the information about Gravitation. It sounds like I gave up on it too soon. Funny, with the childish character conquering the cold character--sounds like something I'd like.

yes , the song is not great , but it doesn't matter , gravitation is cute , it's not really a yaoi and sometimes is very funny. i think people love it because it's romantic, the childish shuichi conquers the cold yuki. i don't know about the manga , i only saw some remix and i didn't like it , i don't say i don't like hard yaoi but SM isn't my thing. i think the manga is different. and there are some crazy characters there, ryouichi , the manager, they are funny!

LADYTROLL and others: Sell me on Gravitation! I glanced at a manga in a store and thought, "Oh. Boys in a band. Not my thing."

I love yaoi and shonen-ai but somehow the singing theme didn't fire my interest in Gravitation. So what did I miss? What's appealing about Gravitation?

ZARUKIYS: Yes, I would love to see a scanlation of the ending of Inuyasha! I've read translations through volume 48, but my "supplier" quit after that.

I have mixed feelings about there being no second series of Inuyasha, but I'll take your word on that!

Hai! It is true that she finished the manga! You would absolutely love it! If you wish to read a scanlation of it, I can send you a link. Let me know if you want it.

As for an Inuyasha Season 2? Already happened!! She said she was done making Inuyasha after 167 episodes. The manga was finished for her, so the series is a no-go with a continuance. Trust me on this. I have truly reliable sources myself. And the rumors are just a lie. There is no 2nd season of Inuyasha. If there was, I would have found out about earlier before it was even brought on the internet. LOL.

But anyways, no. You aren't alone in the love of shounen-ai/yaoi. I've been a lover of it for at least a few years now. It's something I truly enjoy.

Anyways, let me know if you want me to send you the link to the free site that has the scanlation of it. Okay?

Hey, hi and welcome! It's so nice to know that I'm/we're not alone in our love of yaoi. All I get is teasing or strange looks around here...

I've heard a rumor that they're starting an Inuyasha second series and that Rumiko Takahashi FINALLY finished the Inuyasha manga with volume 54. However, I'm not sure how reliable my source is. Does anyone know what's going on with Inuyasha? (BTW, most annoying ending to an anime series ever, in my opinion. I hope they DO redeem themselves with a second series.)

Hey! How's it going?

I just recently found you tonight and I am excited! I am truly into anime myself! I absolutely love Yu Yu Hakusho and Death Note! Inuyasha is also my favorite anime of all time!

I truly enjoy Junjou Romantica myself! Woohoo! I saw episode 1 of the second season. Isn't that neat? Yay! I have been a yaoi-lover for a very long time now! It's truly wonderful! Gravitation is what got me into it! Hehe.
Nice to meet you.

Oh awesome I have just discovered a love for Yaoi also. You should check out Junjo Romantica it is so cute and funny, it's my favorite. The anime is taking a break right now but there are 12 episodes you can watch.

ooooohhh! Those are great suggestions. I need to get some funds to try them out. Maybe my local Half Price Book store... I know RightStuf.com carries a lot of interesting titles...

My love of yaoi has been a closet thing, like I've been hiding Playboy magazines under the bed. I feel like I'm "coming out"! emoticon

I don't think I know any cutting edge manga or anime to recommend to anyone. I'd like to recommend a fabulous classic, The Slayers, if anyone doesn't know it. It's a hilarious sword and sorcery fantasy, and it left me with permanent fetish for page boy hair cuts on male characters. (Thanks for being my favorite character ever, Xellos.) They're starting work on a new Slayers anime, called Slayers Revolution. They have the original author and most of the original production people and voice actors on board. Can't wait! emoticon

emoticon ,why sigh ,i'm a huge yaoi fan too, yaoi is meant especially for women(even if i know some straight guys who like it-that's really weird!).at first i was shocked too to discover something like that about myself but now i totally accepted the idea. well i see you like things that i like too . so for yaoi junjou romantica is ongoing(aarin translates episode 9 now). i absolutely loved kyou kara maou-start with the first series,it's comedy ,fantasy and very close to shonen ai. kenichi was very good, kekkaishi, vampire knights is ongoing and good, tactics and if you have not seen ouran host club it's a MUST!i'll think about more,CLAMP had X series or xtv series ,it's hard to find on veoh but it's there, and XXX holic.

Oh, wow, that's a tough question for me because my tastes are all over the map. Well... I suppose I like mostly shonen, comedy, and fantasy, but also some seinen and some historical, and *sigh* yaoi. The only catagory I don't care as much for is shoujo, which I assume is weird because I'm female. In general, I'm not that interested in the giant robot type of story or fighting/killing epics. I'm also open to new manga experiences!

Manga I've liked (in no particular order): Bleach, Naruto, Hikaru no Go, Prince of Tennis, Rurouni Kenshin, Fullmetal Alchemist, Ghost Hunt, Wallflower, Descendents of Darkness, Negima (anime was a letdown), Love Hina, Death Note (until L died), Inuyasha (until I realized that Rumiko Takahashi is NEVER going to end that story and is at volume 53 with no end in sight), Cardcaptor Sakura (anything CLAMP!), Chibi Vampire (Karin), Law of Ueki, Azumanga Daio, Yotsuba, and Pet Shop of Horrors, Boy Princess...that's all I can think of right now.

I didn't care for GTO.

Am I making any sense? Does this mesh with your tastes anywhere?

Does anyone have suggestions for anime or manga? I'm on the lookout for new & interesting.

I recommend Hikaru no Go, both the anime and the manga, with warnings for each. The manga is wonderful, but the ending is a letdown. The anime has a better ending in the follow-up movie, which is actually part of the original manga. However, domestic release of Hikaru no Go anime has stalled after disc 11.

According to my anime-ordering source at Suncoast, Hikaro no Go has been pulled from the list of active titles, even though volume 12 is still displayed as available for pre-order. Volume 12 was supposed to be released January, 2008, but wasn't. Again, according to my anime-ordering source, a number of titles and domestic anime companies are seriously hurting from downloads.
emoticon

Hikaru no Go is still my absolute favorite anime.
emoticon

What does anyone else recommend?
