Hi there all,

Sometimes I find that trying to keep my activities up and finding new ways to do it can be a little tough. Given that, I thought I would share some information for people in NS to have a fun day that would benefit charity. For the past 4 years at my work, we have a Jack Bonaparte Memorial Walk for Life in support of the Canadian Cancer Society Lodge that Gives!
The date for the walk is Saturday July 18th, 2009 - 9am and it is dog friendly. You can find all the details at www.walkforjack.ca

There is a silent auction, live music and games for Kids, as well as a BBQ for all. I volunteer there every year, however this is the 1st year that I will walk the 5 km.

Hope to see you there!!!

Jae

If you guys wouldn't mind I would like to join the fitness goal challenge. I am new, and just starting the program but I think I am able to do at least 30 minutes of exercise a day.

People often say that motivation doesn't last. Well, neither does bathing -- that's why we recommend it daily.

Slow and steady wins the race.

Consistency is the key.

We can post our minutes if you want to (maybe in the Daily check in) but SP will keep a running total on the main team page as well as what percentage we have done of our total goal.

900 minutes per month is about 30 min per day - everyday. Let's give that one a try. We can do more if we want.

Wanda;
I think that 900 mins a month for fitness is a reasonable amount to strive for. If we end up getting more, that will be a bonus.

Thanks for responding Dianne. You don't have to do the goal if you don't want to. I tend to get my water in anyway so that's not really a challenge for me but some people need an extra incentive.

I'm going to have to pick a number for the fitness minutes because I'd like to get it started. Does anyone have an opinion?

Hi Wanda.
Water goal I am so-so on. But sure I think its great to follow through with Team goals!

Personally I try for 1000 minutes per week but I do know that is a real stretch and high goal. Set the bar high but a reasonable one for everyone here.
So speak up everyone - what is a reasonable stretch for you?

From all the Spark Mail, most people want to track water and fitness activity minutes (which would include all forms of exercise).
I have set up the water one for all of us to get at least 8 glasses/day(individually). I didn't set up a team goal number because I wasn't sure how many people we'd have involved but I can edit that part after.
I haven't set up the fitness minutes one because I'm not sure what's a reasonable amount of minutes for each of us. i know that I have 566 fitness minutes for April but I wasn't really active until the end of the month. What do you think? 700...1000...2000? We need the individual number to set it up but we can edit the group goal total once we see how it goes. Let me know quickly because we want to get this going!

Wanda

PS. I have just discovered another team doing 900 fitness minutes/month with a total team goal of 1 000 000 minutes (It's a big team!) What do you think?

Thank you for all your work Wanda.
I am still a little hazy with the details -lol- but the goals sound great.

Personally I like the fitness activity goal the very best.

Ok everyone! This is what I have gathered about the team goals feature. Grab a cup of tea or better yet, a glass of water and bear with me.LOL

As a team, we can set up to 5 team goals that we work on and track individually on our "Other Goals" tracker but our team totals will be tracked as well and displayed on the main team page. This is an optional feature, you do not have to get involved in it and can opt out later if it isn't for you.

The first step is to decide on a goal. Sparkpeople has set up some special goals that we can choose from and they are: (the numbers in brackets can be changed to a number that is suitable for us)

Drink (8) cups of water per day.
Do (500) minutes of fitness activities per month.
Walk (10 000)steps per day.
Get (8) hours of sleep per day.
Save (1)dollars per day.
Earn (100) Sparkpoints per month.

Or we have the option to create custom goals, in which we have to decide on the following specifics:

Action: (ex. run,read)
Amount: (a number)
Measurement:(ex. miles, books)
How Often:(per day,week,or month)

Once we decide on our goal, we have to decide on a target number for the whole team: for example 50 000 fitness minutes per month. This would be everyone's fitness minutes combined.

As of a couple of minutes ago we have 149 members and so far in April we have accumulated 22 727 fitness minutes.

I'm suggesting we start with a goal that is already set up by SP until we get the hang of it and then we can go crazy with it!LOL Maybe we could do "total fitness minutes" because that would everyone's exercise of choice.

Soooooo, there it is. Does anyone have comments, questions, suggestions. Please let me know! This will only work with everyone's input!

Now I'm going to rewarm my cup of tea!

My current weekly goal is to make the current day better than the day before for my water intake, and to keep a better check on my portions.

Hi everyone! Sparkpeople has done it again! They've come up with another way to keep us motivated and on track. You may have noticed the Team Goals section below the forums on our East Coasters team page. This is a way that we can set goals for the team and work together to meet them.

If anyone has a suggestion let me know because I need to know what goals are important to you!

Wanda
