Healthy Living Challenge 1 is all that and more!
This Spring, join the Healthy Living Challenge!
HLC 1 starts on Monday 03/26/12 and ends with final weigh-ins on Monday 06/04/12. This is a ten week challenge.
Once you have been assigned to a team, you will be sent an invite to the Healthy Living Challenge 1 Spark Team. You must accept SparkMail to join this challenge. Having a SparkPage is encouraged.
For the start of the challenge, you'll be required to post your starting weight and measurements for chest, waist and hips.
After that, weigh-ins will be reported weekly and measurements will be collected again at the halfway point of the challenge (04/30) and at the end of the challenge (06/04).
Challenge weeks run Monday to Sunday.
Weigh-ins are due by Wednesday of each week. Each participant will post their weekly weigh-ins on their team's "Weigh-in & Reporting Thread." All team captains will report their team's results by Friday and all-team results will be posted over the weekend.
If you miss two weigh-ins in a row (without letting your team know if you're going to be off-line in advance or unable to complete the challenge), you will be considered a "no-show/dropout" and will be dropped from your team's roster. (Don't let this happen to you!)
If you are dropped for "no show/no response" (meaning you drop the challenge without reporting to your team captain that you wish to quit the challenge) you may be reassigned to another team for the next challenge, at leaderships discretion, during the next challenge's sign-up period.
Each week, you will be required to weigh-in with your team.
Your percentage of weight loss will be calculated by your team's Stats Captain.
Each team will have a Biggest Loser for the week based on percentage lost.
Each week, you will need to complete a Mental Challenge.
You will report your result for the Mental Challenge with your weigh-in.
Each week, you will be required to participate with your team.
You will earn five points for your team every day you post anywhere on the HLC Challenge Team and/or support a teammate with a SparkPage comment or SparkGoodie.
(Maximum 35 points per week per person)
Each week, you will be required to participate in at least one of the weekly All Team Challenges (ATCs).
You will earn points for your team by completing the challenge and posting your personal results.
ALL TEAM CHALLENGES
Each week, there will be three All Team Challenges.
One challenge will be Nutrition based.
One challenge will be Fitness based.
One challenge will be focused on a Healthy Habit.
Each HLC participant will be required to do at least one of these three challenges. You can choose to do two of them. Or you can choose to do all three of them. This is YOUR challenge. You are responsible for challenging yourself!
Information about the coming week's challenges will be posted on Fridays. You will post your challenge results on the Challenge Threads. In order for your points to count, you must include your Team Color on your post and summarize/total your points earned. Only one post per person per challenge thread, please!
For HLC 1, challenge points earned will be averaged by the number of participants by team for each of the weekly challenges.
OVERALL TEAM WINNER
All eight teams plus the captains team are tracking the following things:
1) Percentage of Weight Loss
2) Mental Challenge Points
3) Participation Points
4) Nutrition Challenge Points
5) Fitness Challenge Points
6) Healthy Habit Challenge Points
7) Percentage of Inches Lost
Each week, totals for each of these items will be reported for every team (except for measurements, which are only taken for the starting, midpoint, and final weeks). Each team will receive a number of points based on their ranking for each category.
The team with the most points is the weekly winner. The team with the most points over all 10 weeks will be crowned the Champions of Healthy Living Challenge 1!
Guidelines to help raise your chances of success:
Participate in team discussions and challenges. Being active on SparkPeople will help you reach your goals.
You must accept SparkMail (as it's our main source for sharing important information) and it helps if you have a public SparkPage so that teammates can leave you comments and goodies to support you during the challenge.
Don't hurt yourself! Stay safe! Push yourself, but don't overdo it. We don't want anyone visiting the ER because they went overboard on a challenge!
Again - we want people to get HEALTHY - NOT HURT!
In addition to the weekly All Team Challenges, there will be weekly games and optional challenges that you can also choose to do. We've got a bunch of captains waiting to spread cheer and motivation in every way possible!

The captains on this team are an awesome group who will do what they can to help you succeed! But YOU have to do the work! We can give you the tools and the encouragement and the support - but we can't make you log on, pass on that donut, or tie you to a treadmill! You have to do that FOR YOU!
