Since I started this challenge, and actually started measuring myself, so far i've lost 2in. off my waist, 2.5in off my hips, and .75in off my neck. Now I do not know why I was ever worried about measuring.

I'll measure myself tomorrow, I usually do it about 1 time a month or 2 times if I lost a lot of weight that month...but it's been about 2 months since I've really measured myself good!

Hmm - kind of feel like I'm at sqare one.

I used an actual tape measure (not the printed paper version) and got wildly reduced numbers.

I'll keep using the "real" tape measure from this point out. It probably doesn't matter which is correct as long as I'm consistent.

Clothes do feel more loose though.

I measured myself during last week's weigh in, and again today. Even though I sucked in my stomach this time and not last time (that I remember), it looks like I've lost 0.5 inches in the waist. Every tiny bit counts! emoticon

I do believe it's checking monthly...but no hard facts on that!

I've been avoiding doing the measurements, but I will do it and enter them today.

How often do you check measurements? Not as quick and easy as stepping on the scale. Is there a recommended time? weekly or monthly? Just curious. Thanks! emoticon

I took my measurements last night.
There was a small change....an inch off the hips and two off the waist. Very encouraging!

I got this info. at Oprah.com...I hope it answers some of your questions.

Dr. Oz introduced us to a part of the body many people had never heard of—the omentum You know that a poor diet can cause your omentum to get larger, but once it's large, can you shrink it? "Absolutely. That's the whole purpose of the omentum," Dr. Oz says. "We're born with omentums that we can store fat in. So we're supposed to be able to have it get bigger and smaller."

You also know that your target omentum measurement is 32 and a half inches for women and 35 inches for men. If you have trouble remembering that target, Dr. Oz has a shortcut—your waist shouldn't be any larger than half of your height.

But what is the best way to measure your omentum?

Dr. Oz says to first find your belly button. Then, before you measure, suck your stomach in as much as you can. "We're not concerned about how lax your muscles are or your posture. What we want to figure out is what's going on inside the muscles, where the omentum is. You can't suck your omentum in," he says. "If you're sucking as hard as you can and taking a deep breath in, if that lets you measure your waist to just get the omentum, you're doing fine."

I don't know if you have ever seen Dr. Oz on Oprah before...but he says that measureing your waist is the most accurate place to measure your weight lost...even over scales.

He says to suck your belly in as far as you can when you measure your waist.

For measuring for clothes this might not be the best way to go...but for weight loss it makes sence to me.

Question: I actually did the waist/hip/neck measurements yesterday as part of my weigh-in process for the Biggest Loser challenge -- But when I measured my waist I tried to do it from a relaxed belly state - neither inhaling, nor exhaling. Should I remeasure today sucking in or just continue to measure the same way?

When I first started I took a "butt measurement" since it is my BIGGEST problem spot. Took that tape right across the middle of my butt (the BIGGEST spot)and faced up to it. Glad I did. So far I can say I lost two inches off my BUTT!! I also lost 1" each off my thighs (and that was from two weeks ago). MEASURING IS GREAT!!

Keeping track of how many inches you have lost can be very encouraging especially when the scale doesn't seem to be moving.

Sparkpeople has a place to track your measurements and your weight on the WEIGH-IN PAGE. You can find a button that takes you to your WEIGH-IN PAGE on your START PAGE. There is even a printable measuring tape that you can use.

Here's the challenge:

1. Measure yourself...you can pick whatever areas you want to measure, but you MUST MEASURE YOUR WAIST!! Suck your belly in as far as you can...and measure your waist right around your belly button.

2. Post your measurement results on your Weigh-in Page.

3. Report back here and let us know that you have completed the challenge.

4. Give yourself a emoticon for a job well done!
