Way to go LOOSEINGIT!
emoticon

I just read the article and the one on mental fitness. Both were very good. Thanks for posting. I'm not sure I love the exercise part, but I do love the payoff. Actually, it's the first step that I don't love so much. Once I get started, I do enjoy it.

I am the creator of my wellness.

Some of my friends say I'm obsessed with exercise..
I say I'm dedicated..59 pounds worth.

I love to walk and hike. I have a daily goal of 120 at least. Yesterday I walked 8.96 miles @ 15 min a mile, with a 12 lb weighted vest

When I first started my journey I thought Oh NO! I guess I HAVE to exercise. Oh well, I do like swimming, maybe I'll do that. I got out the bathing suit (oh God! I look like a whale!) but I went and got in the pool. There was some kind of a class going on! I found out it was water aerobics. So I started doing that. Soon I had friends and I was able to do more. I got so I was looking forward to my "swim" days. I kept it up until I noticed that the Rec Center had a gym too. Hmm...maybe I won't kill myself in there after all. So I got into my "gym" shoes and began to try out the machines.
You know what? I kinda liked it. I filled in the days I didn't go to the pool with days at the gym.
I don't go to the pool too often now, but the gym a couple of blocks away is my second home.
I had a little accident and messed up my arm and the doctor said no exercising for a week or two. I thought ok, but as the days passed I got more and more irritable and all I could think of was going to work out. Today was my first day back and I felt like I was let out of jail. It felt so good to move and try new things. I am home and I love it.

There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as if everything is.

I too loved the article and all the reviews. my problem is where do i find time to have 30 mins alone. no phone, no internet. no kids, no nagging husband, no wash, no chores,, i am sure you get the idea, thats been my whole problem all along, i have every intention of walking/exercise even if i have to take the stroller along, but buy the time i get home from work. cook supper, eat it,clean up i am tired and ready to rest. and then get the baby and go to bed.

I AM DONE... I WILL BE SKINNY AGAIN TRUST ME

God helps those who help themselves..

One day a time .. MY new thought..

Good info!

You always have a choice. No food has the power to make you eat it, and no one else determines your values or priorities. Sure, the situation may be difficult; sometimes you may have to choose between less than ideal options, or even pick the lesser of two evils. But the choice is always yours, and the only way to fail in the long run is to fail to choose.

Good article addressing the how to basics of exercise, but I don't it really had anything to do with learning to love it.

Exercise is like anything else in life. If it is something we haven't done before or haven't done for a while or regularly, we make a mental (conscious or subconcious) decision that it will be hard and that we won't like it. Logical in a way since if it were easy and we liked it we would already be doing it.

It is no different from leaning a new language, playing a musical instrument, or any of thousands of other learning opportunities. In the beginning we feel totally inept and intimidated by those who can do what we cannot yet do.

I started exercising because I had to for health reasons. It wasn't fun but neither is being unhealthy. But sooner or later the most amazing thing happens. Actually 2 things happen. You get better at it and your health improves. And those 2 things are a lot of fun.

It wasn't that long ago that I had to litterally drag my obese butt around the block and that wore me out. But after a while that became pretty easy. So I took up cycling. Then running. Then dancing. And each of those things improved my performance at the others. What fun! In fact, it was so much fun that I became a personal trainer and fitness instructor and I'm having the time of my life.

That is how you learn to love exercise. Think about something you are good at. Isn't that fun? Was it fun the very first time you tried it? Probably not. Exercise is no different. If you approach it as a learning opportunity instead of a dreaded chore, it is much easier to accept that it will be hard at first and you won't be very good at it. But over time, it will become easier, you will get better at it, and it will become fun.

Motivation without information is useless.

Willpower is nothing more than wishful thinking.

Discipline is practicing something until it becomes a habit.

I love to exercise, but my conditioning is not good, but I try. I use creative ways to get it in, like new ways to wash dishes, strength exercises while in shower or to and from bathroom, and the wii when it weighs me, as well as grocery shopping in a way to get good strength and cardio exercise. Today, I am going to add pedometer walking if I can find it. I walk the dog for strength/cardio combo. It provides great resistance.

The article is great! Yeah, I am one of those that LOVES to workout. I marvel in the way our bodies are made and what they can accomplish for us. I realized long ago, that to stay healthy and fit as I age (which is happening way too fast!) exercise would alway be a part of my life. It only worked against me to focus on NOT enjoying exercise, instead I found workouts that I DO enjoy. If you like to Dance then look for Ballroom dance lessons, Zumba and Jazzercise. Everything about our bodies is made to move- Joints surrounded by muscles, your heart and lungs that work together to get oxygen to the muscle so they can keep working, your brain receiving and sending signals. You must exercise your body-you can continue "hating" exercise or you can choose to find ways that you can enjoy movement and begin to actually look forward to your next workout.
One tip: as you get healthier and stronger exercise will feel better and better and you will enjoy it more and more.

Actually, a lot of it is how I got to where I am today. I was always the fat or chubby kid growing up & was never in any physical sports & dreaded PE in school. Now I suffer guilt if not able to do my regular exercise & maybe thats not always a good thing. I know it drives my DH crazy & most of my neighbors already think I'm nuts- no matter the weather as long as I'm still able to get out of bed, I'm out there with my 3 hounds, one at a time. Doing our 3-10 mi. jog/run. I feel lost without it. The other exercises become my 'love' when I'd gotten small enough to do them without straining or getting frustrated. It can happen, I just never knew how to word it the way this article did.
