I am going to try the visual. Maybe I can have a big bottle and then a smaller cup and see the water going away.

Keep trying. Do you have a way to encourage yourself to drink more water? A visual like a pitcher/bottle on the counter? individual bottles.

I am having a rough week this week. Definitely not getting 8 glasses of water and I am still doing a lot of walking but I really want to push to do some aerobic dvd or something. Will keep trying.

Weekends are tough. I do best honestly when I am focusing on something or doing something outside of home. Walking around visiting someone, etc. Yesterday after I realized by 6:00 that I was eating too much I started exercising during the commercials as I watched a movie and during the movie I walked in place. That hour helped me not to eat. For the evening snacking it's not the best solution but so far its working for me. I can basically eat good in the morning. Fruits and simple low fat items. I am basically allowing for the evening snacking in my routine so the more I delay the better for me. Sometimes its also best to not eat a meal because I know I will still snack. The things we have to do!

The weekends are my biggest problem. I never get enough sleep during the week so I am very tired all weekend. When I get tired I eat to try to have some energy. Then I am still so tired that I lay back down. When I wake up again I repeat the entire process. What a mess.

Today is the reward for all of your yesterdays' choices.

Nights are the worst for me. I'm pretty happy with my life, but home alone night after night, I know I'm trying to fill up an empty hole. Stay at work too long--get home and eat around 8:00 PM then mindless snacking begins.

I am going to try to stop the mindless eating. So far so good. Trying to at least replace the munching on anything to munching on fruit, vegetables and pretzels. Evenings are worse because not even keeping junk at home is helping because I will just eat the bread or the chicken or whatever there is. Really bad. Tonight will be the real test since I worked late the last two nights.

I started my winter exercise streak with my parents today. It was to start on Jan. 1 however I was sick. I missed a total of 4 days. I didn't realize how much I missed it. It felt pretty good to move again.

O.k. today is a fresh start. I had no veggies at all yesterday. and had 4 servings of ice cream. The eating has been gradually spinning out of control. I try not to beat myself up, because I'm going through such a difficult time in my life, being seperated 5 months now from my husband, STBX. It's hard to keep the resolve to eat better, more in control when my life has been out of control. But I am just remembering how sleep plays into the carb cravings too, so my goal is to try to get 8 hours of sleep at night, and also aiming for my 5 a day or more.

I was away from Spark People essentially for the month of September. I was sick and had surgery to remove my gall bladder. Then there were complications but I'm better now.

What's funny is that I just read my last entry on this topic (below two) and saw an account of how I spent the weeks before my surgery.

Fat really does have something to do with it for those who have a diseased gall bladder. I did a lot of overeating when my son and his wife visited.

Oh well, I'm okay now and actually, I feel and great and ready to go on with my life.

Man do I know how you feel. I have struggled and lost for a bit and now have put it back and more 168 used to be my high weight, but am creeping over 180 now! My highest ever (and I am only 5'4").

I joined Curves today and hope to start a health & fitness support group at school where I work.

Eating with family and vacations off the plan are killer for me. I used to be so good at sticking to healthy choices then.

I am resolving to make me a priority these days. If I can support you let me know.

I haven't really lost any more weight in over a year but I did lose about 50 lbs and now I've gained back a few of them. I'm seeing a number on the scale that I never thought I'd see again.

I seem to have lost my "compass." I lost the 50 lbs by following weight watchers but then I was diagnosed with Hashiomoto's and started taking synthroid.

I walk just about every day but sometimes I miss a few days in a row as when my son and his wife visited last week. We had a great time but most of it involved food. We went to a smorgasbord, pizza parlor, Atlantic City, a local ice cream dairy and New York City on 9/11. My daughter in law is very heavy but we all love to eat. It was great to see my son dropped 20 lbs and quit smoking. He almost looks lean now.

They are started to think about having their first child ... they are both 26 ... but I'm a little worried about my daughter in law's weight.

Anyway, I gained about 4 lbs last week and went off my thyroid medicine.

My son's father caused a lot of anger when he tried to mussel in on my time and I need to start dealing with this better.

Stress, yes. Most of my problem with stress is eating. I rarely am doing everything right when stressed. Often I find that mixing it up and eating a bit more actually helps me lose weight.

Did anyone see The Biggest Loser Tuesday night? One contestant, Mandi, seemed to be doing everything right; exercising (a lot), eating right, etc., but gained weight this week when she is consistently known to lose a large amount each week. I think it was Bob that commented that stress was most likely the culprit. I think that is my problem to a large degree. With the economy, work deadlines & cuts, teenage issues, newly divorced marital status, etc., I think it is REALLY affecting my ability to lose weight consistently. Besides exercising daily at home, I try taking a short brisk walk during work hours..but I'm still struggling. Anyone else have this problem?

Thought I'd pop in and post my loss for Jan. Started out at 179 and am down to 165. Yay!!! Minor slips here and there, but am feeling strong with my eating.

My goal for Feb is to start walking or doing my elliptical machine 2-3 times during the week. right now I'm walking on the weekends only.

Congrats everyone! Keep up the good work. I tried a couple new Spark recipes tonight & both were really good. The Heavenly Spinach (with artichokes) & the Turkey Meatloaf Surprise (with carrots). My teen daughter liked the meatloaf. Mexican Taco Soup is still my favorite. I put enough left-overs in the freezer for future meals. I find as long as I have my meals planned ahead the better off I am to eat the right things. I still cook for others but I have my food separately that I eat. 3 more lbs to go this week & I will have lost 10 this first month. woo hoo.

Down 10 lbs. and I experimented with added some fruit and oatmeal carbs this week. Splurged on Fri. Personal Pan pizza and popcorn without a gain. My goal is to learn how to keep losing slowly and add in treats on OCCASION.

I've got a pre trial hearing on Jan 26 1pm. Say a prayer please. Had 2 interviews last Mon 1/12 at UW Hospital. I loved the (TLC) Trauma Life Center. It went really well. Nurse Mgr and I discussed a personality course she had taken and I kept thinking about what is my type. I asked her in my thank you letter and got a very positive response from her. We both enjoyed meeting each other and same day they called for me to update my references and do a background check on me. Yesterday; 1 wk later; I called to make sure they got my updated info. They called back and told me I have excellent references. So maybe??? The salary is only $138 more a month (that will go to gas) but it's full time and has benefits. I'm sooo nervous (afraid to get too excited). But we'll see. Looks like things are starting to turn the corner for me!

So glad you're doing well. Congrats on the 10 lbs.emoticon
I'm doing great myself. I don't own a scale but I had to take in all my pants by 4 inches. I'm exercising - sparks bootcamp- have you tried that? Now I need to get my sugar levels under control. They are so erratic. 243 before bed so I took 65U of Lantus; woke up feeling skaty-bs 60; ate Total cereal w/ 1% milk and a piece of whole grain toast and coffee of course; at work bs was 287 so I took 8U of Novolg; 11am bs was 64 and on like that all day. Well I'm glad you are doing fine. Gerry

Our local charter schools do cater to young mothers and I am assuming Texas does also. I'm glad I had a chance to talk to her and voice my opinion. Yes we've always had a pretty close relationship. We even talked about sex a couple of months ago. She told me ,at that time, she was a virgin. And we discussed (2 sided talks, no I don't preach) abstenience, protection, love, relationships. I guess that talk didn't stick huh!

I just got off the phone with her. I did tell her that I was disappointed in her but I will be here for her if she needs anything. I told her my opinion-that it's not fair to the baby for a 15 yr old and a 17 yr old to raise it when there are so many willing and able adults willing to care for and love it. I asked her to think about what I told her and she agreed. She's 7 weeks along so she has time to think. She also said she wasn't thinkiing of marrying the father and is checking into the charter school tommorrow.

Ah Gerry--This is not on your plate, but her plate and her mother's plate. I know you want nothing but the best for her and she will have to find her way. Do you and your grand-daughter have a close relationship? You can always offer, but remember, whatever happens is in the best interest of all involved. Even when it doesn't seem to be. So many lessons. You're all in my prayers.

More was just added to my plate!! My 15 year old (Sept 30) grandaughter is PREGNANT!! Her mother called me last week to tell me the news. No one can reach my son (he will not return phone calls). I haven't talked to her yet-I was still in shock. After thinking and doing alot of praying about it I thought it would be a good idea to get her to come to WI and live with me. No one else agrees- my daughter; even my prayer partner. I'm in the middle of my divorce, I only work part time, have little to no money, and just got my 1st apartment. And while I do have alot on my plate I can't stand the thought of this little girl having and raising a baby in her current situation. My son lost custody of her last year when he went to jail for abuse of his 2nd wife. They are now seperated-she never wanted Gloria around. So she was sent to Texas to live with her mother (who cheated on my son and had a baby with a then married man). I hate to say it but : Her mother is trailer trash. So Gloria has ALOT of issues and I'm sure she feels that a baby is her ticket out. BUT SHE'S 15!! The father is a 17 yr old high school dropout. Him and his family are trying to convince her to drop out (my God she's a freshman) and come live with them. I know it doesn't really matter but they are Mexican and live on welfare. I want more for her, she deserves more. I'm sure an answer will come for what is meant to be but in the meanwhile....

One day at a time is all you can do. Be good to yourself. This is not the most conducive time to lose weight. So do what you can. Day by day the pressure eventually eases.

I ate lunch at Chinese Buffet. Stuck to steamed shrimp and veggies.

I'd take that 3lb drop myself! Good job on getting going in the right direction. Now, if only I could get myself moving that way.

I am trying to do better. Now that my husband has finally moved out (not necessarily on) I am finding it a little easier to eat healthier, but the stress of working full time and being a mom of three has me doing the emotional (stress) eating thing. Gotta get that under control! Excercise however is good. That is the one thing I do have under control. Now, if I could just afford the divorce!

Joyce

It's great to see members coming in to post. Being reflective and introspective can help us refocus on what we want.

Yesterday was a fantastic success. Just what I needed to get started. South Beach is always rewarding by big drops the first couple days. Ya... Ya... I know, water weight. Hey, bloat is bloat and makes you uncomfortable and the pants too tight.

So 3 pounds down in one day--whatever gets me into small clothes in the long run.

No exercise I had every chance too, but didn't? What's up there? It involves getting off the computer and doing something proactive for myself.
Try again today.

Coffee's ready! I've let go of my flavored cream and gone back to sugar free flavored syrup.
