No, it's not a college "high on his list" -- just one possibility (one that I REALLY like since it's only about a half hour from "home"!!)

And NO -- sadly it only covers about half of his costs -- the total at that college with room/board/tuition is $47, 000+.... BUT I'm NOT complaining!! I'll take it!!! emoticon

Now that is something to shout about---is it one he is really interested in? does it cover most of the cost?

I was going to come on here and say that -- not to sound negative - BUT my "thankfulness" today is that 2011 is FINALLY going to be OVER with!!! I'm REALLY looking forward to a NEW year... I think 2011 was NOT a good year for ALOT of us....

Today I am VERY grateful that we opted to pay a few dollars extra when we purchased our car insurance so that we had "roadside assistance"...

My daughter had to call for help in the "wee hours of the morning" when she was out delivering papers -- got a flat tire THEN her battery died in her car!! She changed the tire herself -- but then needed a jump -- so called that roadside assistance number!

When I learned this, I told her that I was proud of her for changing her tire etc BUT she COULD have called US to come help her!! That we'd always come -- even in the middle of the night!! But I'm glad she took the responsibility on and called the insurance company number for help...

AND I'm glad we purchased that! I have AAA myself -- but not for ALL of us -- too expensive but for literally DOLLARS -- like $5 we added it onto our auto insurance!! WOO HOO! And it's paying off!! Probably the smartest thing I EVER did!! LOL...

I am thankful the hubby is dealing with one of the insurance companies--he called and found out they MUST HAVE all paperwork by 12/31 and we need to submit several things. So he is getting the last receipts and will fax things in--he got a fax number from them when he called. I'm dealing with one set of paperwork--he is doing the other.

dDIL just called to ask if her 3 youngers can come over and visit while she goes to work this morning. I already have Anna here, so if I marshal them properly, I might make some progress on getting the tree down and things packed up...not to mention the fact that they'll make short work of the rest of this food!

Oops -- missed a day!

I am very thankful that we were able to spend Christmas just as a "family" yesterday -- my DD, DS and DH... Was very low key and we had fun.

I am also VERY grateful to whomever "assessed" my DD's items she brought into Half Price Books to sell yesterday ---- she got a fair amount of money for them -- which was NICE!! AND she really NEEDS that money right now! Sometimes when we bring stuff in there we get almost NO money -- so yesterday was a nice surprise!!

I am thankful we have very little "have to do" things this week. We are hoping to go to NYC tomorrow to see a friend who was in our wedding 32 years ago. We don't see him very often and he and family are in NYC this week so we are going to try!

Dianne -- we've done that before too! Especially with my parents...sometimes they "listen" and sometimes they don't...! But it's nice to do that kind of thing!!!

Cathy -- CONGRATS to all of you!!!

Terri -- it's WONDERFUL that your HUGE family is able to gather (or at least most of them gather)!!!

Even though it's not quite midnight -- and I posted my last "thankfulness" after midnight (which means it was technically TODAY) but....

Today I am grateful that my brother and nieces arrived safely back home -- flights went smoothly and they weren't delayed at all or anything!!

And now I'm grateful that things are "back in order" here at home and we can RELAX tomorrow!!!

Today I am grateful for my parents... I realize that's not something all of us are still blessed with... I am VERY fortunate that both my parents are still here with us and in good health.... And I'm grateful for their generosity... They have ALWAYS been very generous with us -- and are very "giving" people anyway -- they've taught me a valuable lesson in life -- to "share the wealth" -- even if you're not "wealthy", there's always someone that has less -- so be grateful for what you have and GIVE to others!!

And while we celebrate Jesus' birth today, I am SO grateful for all the blessings in my life that He has given me -- and ALL OF YOU definitely are at the top of that "list"!!!!! You are ALL so special -- and have touched my life in ways you'll probably never know the extent of.... You always make me laugh, you can make me cry (empathizing with your pain), you make me "think", you hold me up during the tough times, you give me something to look forward to each day, etc etc etc etc!!!! THANK YOU ALL!!!

I also think of you guys often during the day and stop by to check in (too) often. I am thankful for the connections that can be made over long distances--yet so very close via the internet.

I am thankful for our service people who are far away from their families. God bless my sister-in-law and all the others who are away from home.

I'm SO blessed and I love that this thread is causing me to pause and actually THINK about those many blessings!

Cathy, you've echoed my thoughts about the place this site has come to fill in my daily life. I think about you girls every morning and look forward to popping in to say hello and see what everyone is up to. I think there might be a special reception area in Heaven where we will all finally meet one day :)

Today, my Prince is 61 and he still gives me butterflies...now THAT'S something to be thankful for!

WOW Cathy -- more than FOUR years, huh??!!! emoticon

Today I am extremely grateful for safe travels for ALL of my family to come into town!! Always a dicey proposition -- traveling at this time of year!! But everyone is safely here now so big sigh of relief. AND SO thankful that we CAN still get together!!!! Realize those days may be number so will treasure every MOMENT!!

I'm grateful for the moments when we are gathered that we can laugh and share things. We usually end up playing a game or two -- and we had a BLAST tonight playing "Loaded Questions"... It's interesting what you can learn about people that you THINK you know well!!

AND I'm grateful for the time that the "cousins" will have together. It's rare that they can spend time together since they're now scattered in four cities... Hated to break them up tonight when we had to split up to head our separate ways to sleep etc... But it was great they were having a nice time together -- even though they haven't seen each other in a year!!!

I was thinking today when I got my 25 points for 30 days that I needed to check when I joined---and found out that I have been on Spark more than 4 years---what an important part of my life this site has become and the wonderful friends I have found on here have kept me going.
I am also glad for the bp reading today---back to normal---due to lack of pain---my leg might be weak but it is not paining me like it was.
Next I am thankful that I finally finished wrapping presents today--one more gift to put in a bag- --and figure out if it goes to Taylar or Shari---LOL

CONGRATS Terri and hooray for nearby stores and more sunshine! I am thankful for my family being all together again and the laughter the togetherness brings. DD2 watched Ava today so I am very grateful for that.

I have been remiss here so I will catch up:

I am thankful my kids are and have been good students--they know they need to study and they do! (By the way--big CONGRATS to Terri!)

I am thankful for the sunshine today--makes me want to get out and exercise.

I am thankful for the years in Girl Scouting--gave my daughters lotes of opportunities to do things! We closed that bank account today and will be making a donation to a local charity after we have one last outing.

I am thankful for my siblings--they are pretty special and I'd still do anything for any one of them. I don't see them at Christmas--or hardly ever--but we at least keep in touch now with Facebook!

I am thankful for having stores close to my house! It has really saved me ALOT in the past couple of days as I've figured out what I've forgotten EVERY time I walk back in the door of my house!! LOL...

I am thankful for a wonderful kitchen table that I can put two leaves into so I have room for my family to gather around it!

I'm grateful for all of my grandchildren with all of their different personalities. I'm happy for the ones who want to come and spend time with Nanny and Pop, doing things with us and learning from us.

PS--I just found out that I got A's in both PE classes and a B+ in Spanish! Woo Hoo!

Terri -- I hear you on that one!! Traditions seem to have gone by the wayside with ALOT of things...!! I definitely remember MY grandparents getting us matching PJ's for Christmas - though they weren't handmade which would have been that much MORE special... But I DO remember that... It's SO COOL that you do that -- ESPECIALLY given the massive number of them you have to make!! QUITE the task!!

Today I am thankful that we are staying home for Christmas this year! Alot of years we're traveling... As much as I hate cooking/cleaning/shopping in preparation for everyone being here, I AM glad to be able to just be at home!!

I'm thankful that I've been able to carry on my mother's tradition of making Christmas PJs. My cousins all remember them from their childhood (and they're all senior citizens now) and now my grandkids will have that memory as well.

I our ever-changing world, traditions are difficult to establish and maintain--but I think they are still very important.

I am thankful for my daughter's grades. She may be a little goofy at times, young for her 22 years, and uncertain about where she is headed, but she's a good student. She earned all A's this semester. That includes statistics, computer programming, and others. Not too shabby for an art student!. She has a T-shirt that says "I have 99 issues, but grades ain't one of them." It is perfect for her.

I am thankful for the great group of people that I work with--we have fun together, respect each other, go by consensus most of the time and help each other out. I have worked for more money in other jobs (LOTS more money) but I have never felt the "family" feeling with another group like I do this one!

I am thankful that dd2s first babysitting experience away from home went well tonight.

I am also thankful that DS and his gf were happy to eat supper with us and play dominoes with me tonight while DH slept on the couch.

I am thankful that DH did not have a heart attack while listening to the Packer game today!

I am thankful for my nice warm bed that I am about to sleep in and the husband who keep me warm.

I am so thankful that both daughters sing in the choir when they are home--so we had 4 of our family in choir robes today.

And I am thankful that Carol survived her 2010 "thing" and is celebrating #50. I'm ahead of you, Carol and find it hard to believe the number I'll be hitting soon....I don't feel that old!

Happy Birthday, Carol!

Betsy, it’s funny that I was thinking the same thing. My son asked for clothes for Christmas. He wants to change his look. For years, he has been wearing nothing but jeans and black T-shirts, usually with math or physics sayings on them. I had fun buying colors for him, and button down shirts.

I am thankful to live in a land of plenty. The grocery store had a big sale; now my freezer and cupboards are overflowing with good food. I know the economy is bad and will probably get worse before things change, but our definition of “bad” is so much different than in much of the world.

I am thankful that I AM celebrating a bday today -- given that I almost died in April 2010! I'm not loving the fact I'm turning 50 - BUT given the "alternative" I need to be grateful that I CAN mark this day! LOL...

Dianne -- sorry I don't live closer! I'd be MORE than happy to give you a "crash course" in geocaching!

So grateful to be able to get on here and read ALL that we are thankful for!!! It does a spirit good to count our blessings -- ALL of us together, doesn't it??!?! THANKS everyone for taking the time to post the things in your lives that make each day special!

Dianne, you need to move back to Wisconsin! We saw people we know everywhere today and it was really fun catching up with them. One of them has a 32 year old son who has been struggling through jobs, one has a father who has Alzheimers that is rapidly declining, one has a grandson with autism, etc. We all have our problems but we all still have time to talk and wish each other a Merry Christmas...kind of like here in cyberland. When the car wouldn't start in the Kohl's parking lot, a complete stranger offered to help us almost immediately.

I am thankful that my son FINALLY decided he should wear clothes other than jeans and T shirts and we will not have to argue with him about dressing up for Christmas. There is a roaring fire in our fireplace and I am thankful for the warmth and the beauty it gives us as we listen to Christmas music and decorate the tree.

I am thankful that DS seems to be adjusting to his new lifestyle as a "househusband" and has been asking for good advice on schools and finances.

I am also thankful that Spark is giving me less issues after downloading google chrome. Actually, so far, NO issues!

It appears most of the children of my Spark friends are getting home safely so I am thankful for that too. I will breathe easier when ours arrives on the 23rd.

Thankful that finals are over my my kids and each will pass all their classes. Daughter is looking at A's and B's, son will probably have a C, maybe 2.

Let me add I'm thankful for grading on curves. DS got B- in both math classes, giving him a GPA over the 3.0 that would have made him move home. I'm so glad because he really enjoys living on campus.

Wow Cathy! I'm thinking that Michael and Taylor will make a great couple--and they should live next door to you! I LOVE having a clean, organized place to work! You sound like my mother--she doesn't like bananas, either.

I'm thankful that my little Anna (10 yo dgd) is finished with her stuffed animal project and is ready to help Nanny with her project. She's coming over after school and I'm going to let her sew up the little boys' jammies that I have cut out.

I am thankful for a clean kitchen---I left Michael a couple of chores---mostly laundry---and he decided to clean my kitchen counters and reorganize stuff and got all my baking stuff a home---he even cleaned underneath the toaster---it was so nice to bake cookies with plenty of counter space available. I think I will keep him---LOL
And Taylar came over last night and she wrapped some of my gifts for me---not a lot as most were in the bedroom where dh was sleeping and I did not want to disturb him---but any not wrapped by me is wonderful---LOL
And I am thankful the new recipe seems to have worked out---Taylar really liked them and so did dh so they must be okay----I was not trying them----they have bananas in them---and Michael mashed the bananas up for me so I did not have to smell them that much---LOL

I am also thankful for youth who can explain technology to me, Dianne.

As of this moment I am thankful that my son texted me by 10 to let me know when he would be in and so far he has been doing a great job at doing his long lists of daily chores. For those who are wondering, I did not cave in, he does not have the van.

Just like every other Thursday night, I am REALLY grateful that Fridays are low key day care days. It is a great way to kick off the weekend.

I am also REALLY thankful for all of the support I have received from this team during our trying time with our son. Thanks everyone.

I am thankful that United HELPED the people stranded when they cancelled the flight today instead of doing like they did in Chicago--which was pretty much leaving everyone to come up with their own plan. I'm thankful that DD3 has a seat on the bus (and I am glad it isn't me) that will arrive about 4 AM in Chicago.

I'm also thankful for daughters who will explain how to use the GPS "thing" so I can teach 5th graders about it. (I think the kids will get it faster than I do--but I will know the other "stuff" that they won't know!) (Yes, Carol--we'll be teaching geocaching.)

Dianne, I'm glad your allergic reaction (to whatever it is) didn't ruin your trip and visit with your friend.

I'm thankful that this is DD#1's last week of classes. She's passed everything (possibly with honors but isn't sure yet) and is ready to start student teaching. Needless to say, we're very proud of her!

Did you get any fresh greens or plants for around your house---like a wreath or boughs? could be something on that----eucalpytus use to give my grandmother fits---and that usually comes in fresh arrangements this time of year.
