If you like big city half marathons for Oklahoma, then your only real options are Route 66 (Tulsa) in November and Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon at the end of April.

If you want something rural, the local one by where I live is the A2A Half Marathon (Ardmore, halfway between OKC and Dallas) on March 30. It's downhill all the way to mile 9 and then just a slight uphill according to the elevation map.

Cinco De Mayo half marathon in Snoqualmie Washinton May 4 was beautiful. At one point we ran right under the shadow of Mt. Si.

I want to run the LaPorte Half by the Bay, hopefully this fall.

I like the Baytown Jailbreak. It is always cold for that one, and running in Southeast Texas heat and humidity is just awful. I know. I do it all the time.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! I have made of tons of them. I chose to do one in St. Louis called Relay and Run for 21...sadly, we got all the way there from WI and Saturday night before the race it was cancelled due to the record snowfall they had. Seriously was a good call, but so disappointing. And, to make my runner mind even more bummed, that race was to be my last half until after our baby (second kiddo) arrives (we are due in November and I was doctor cleared to run that race). So, I will keep these race suggestions in my running binder, and hopefully tackle some next year! :)

I haven't done a half yet but the Colorado Marathon (Half) is supposed to be beautiful. I also think that the Colfax Half would be amazing because you run right through the heart of Denver and this year it goes through the zoo.

I can officially put my plug in for Robie Creek now. I ran it last Saturday, and it was wonderful. It was the biggest race I've run by far with over 2,400 runners, but they did a great job of keeping it fun and low-key. The course itself is tough, but not unmanageable, scenic, yet close to the Boise Airport for traveling in from out of state.

For a smaller race, the Rush Creek half in Cambridge, ID is fun, though I'm not sure if they'll do it again this year or not (it was late October last year), and I've heard good things about Zeitgeist, which is Nov 2.

When you come to Florida; I would recomend the Women's Half Marathon in St. Petersburg, Fl. There is entertainment throughout the entire course and the medals are AMAZING! The Women's Half Marathon is a series that covers several states; Minnesota, Tennessee, Arizona, Florida, and California. Could be neat to get a medal from each state in the series. :) (http://womenshalf.competitor.com/)

Otherwise, the Gasparilla is fun but VERY crowded. (www.tampabayrun.com)

Let me know when you're ready to run in Arkansas. There isn't a half marathon I don't know about. BTWCOACH recommended the White River for Kenya Half Marathon. It is flat and the weather is usually cool in November. It's typically the weekend before Thanksgiving.

I think one of the best half marathons not only in Arkansas, but in the region is Soaring Wings Half Marathon. It's in Conway, which is not far from Little Rock. If you're flying, you'd have about a 30 mile drive from the airport to Conway. It has a good atmosphere and the organizers do it with runners in mind. For a very cheap price you get a great race, nice bling, and plenty of post-race food.

There are plenty others. If you see one, don't hesitate to ask me. I probably know the race director and can give you the inside scoop. If I'm in town for your race, I'll come out to cheer you on. I may be running it, too.

For Florida, I'd highly recommend the Space Coast Half Marathon. It's a gorgeous coastal setting and the medals are awesome. It's a small-ish race, but the organizers really have it together and take care of their runners. The only downside is that it's Thanksgiving weekend, but if you can swing it, it's amazing!!

Also, for Florida I've heard very positive reviews of Gasparilla (Tampa in Feb) and Donna - The National Marathon to Finish Breast Cancer (Jax in Feb). I can't speak from personal experience on those, though, only from my friends' experiences.

PS-If you ever DO want another Wisconsin race and you haven't done it yet, the Madison Mini Marathon is a class act!

If you decide to do another half in Nevada, I would recommend the:

I did it two years ago and I loved it. It's one of the few races I am considering doing a second time.

For Indiana, the best would probably be the Indy Mini, which is the first weekend in May. It claims to be the largest half marathon, but you can judge that for yourself. In the fall, there is also Fort 4 Fitness, which is in Fort Wayne. The better of the two is probably the Indy Mini, which is what I am doing this year. You even run a lap on the Indy 500 racetrack. I was told by someone who has done this race many years that it doesn't count in his opinion unless you kiss the bricks on the racetrack.

My favorite in California has been Operation Jack in Manhattan Beach but it is held the day after Christmas so that may not be convenient. It is run entirely along the ocean and is a small race supporting a worthy charity. Otherwise every woman should experience the Nike Women's Half in San Francisco in October once.

For Hawaii my vote goes to the Maui Half held in September. I did it last year for my 10th half mary on my 30th birthday. But I've also heard the one held on Kauai in September is good.

Definitely check out this blog written by Becca who has accomplished the 50 State goal.

PS- Ohio I did the Cleveland Half last May. I actually love the race (and the whole weekend) so much that my co-worker who is also a runner is racing it this year with her running friend from out of state. :)

If you are looking for a half to do in March specifically, there are a couple here in Washington state that don't fall on Easter weekend: Lake Sammamish Half (March 9, although it might be full as it's popular) and St. Paddy's Day Half in Tacoma (March 16). The reason Lake Sammamish might be full is it is a relatively flat course and is partly on trails; the St. Paddy's Day Half in Tacoma should be reasonably flat, too, since it's an out and back course along the waterfront. As far as lovely courses in Washington, the Whidbey Island Half (April 14) and Bellingham Bay Half (September 29) are two of the prettiest courses I've done around here so far. Great goal, so far I've only done HMs in three states, Washington, Oregon, and California.

It's a shame you've already done Ohio and TN -- I hope you did the Flying Pig in Ohio! If not... go back, run the FP, and count it as a Kentucky race too.

When you get around to Vermont, sign up EARLY for the Covered Bridges Half Marathon, which is run in June. It's one of the most popular races in the state and usually fills up in just a few hours! The race goes from Woodstock to Quechee VT, which is one of the most beautiful spots in the state, and since it has a net elevation loss, you can really focus on the scenery.

In Pennsylvania, I suggest going all-out and running in the Runner's World Half Marathon and Running Festival, which takes place in October. Not only will you run a challenging course, but you'll mingle with running experts and go to seminars with the likes of Dean Karnazes and Shalane Flanagan. It seems like the perfect experience for someone on such an impressive mission!

So, after my first half (after a few years of Tris), I was hooked...and my goal now is to run a half in every state in my life time. I have my first 7 states complete, and I am looking to do my 8th in March if possible, but can't decide where to go. Anyone have any suggestions? The one I really wanted to do falls on Easter weekend, and I won't give that weekend up for a race trip. Let me know (and any suggestions year round are great too!)

PS - I already have Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Ohio, Illinois, Tennessee, and Nevada complete.
