It may seem strange to ask people to lower their sights but I'm doing exactly that. I've created a 10 Mile Spark Team and invite anyone to join. (Oddly, there are multiple HM and M spark teams and dozens of 5K and 10K teams but there's never been a 10M team.)

While I love the HM distance, I am surprised that so many people want to jump right from their first 5K or 10K into a HM training program. While the enthusiasm is admirable, the 10M distance is worth exploring first.

10M is a nice intermediate distance that bridges the huge gap between 10K and HM. I consider 10M a crucial test before going on to longer distances. In particular, nutrition and pacing really start to play a key role. And yet, training for a 10M requires much less time than for an HM. Less chance of injury, less chance of burnout too. Same thing for 10M races.

And there are some wonderful 10M races. Let's chat about them and support each other as we tackle the 10M distance.
