I'm a reader...I work in the medical field (research)...and I often harass family, friends and co-workers with literature I find regarding the newest trends and findings in healthcare and research, all the while encouraging folks to try new things. I've recently convinced my family (not living with me) of the benefits of rice noodles and coconut water in their respective diets (except my brother, who is resistant to all things healthful now). My mom and dad are both Type 2 diabetics, so I work with them to ensure they are managing their diabetes as well as possible, managing stress levels, and ensuring the right foods are being eaten (advice only...since my dad is more resistant and does all the grocery shopping). I urge exercise in both, often by giving gifts like pedometers, for birthdays and holidays. I suppose some might see it as obnoxious...but when I am passionate about something, I tend to be infectious.
I work to inspire co-workers with stories of weight loss...the triumphs of one week, and the tragedies of the next, make for great conversation sometimes. Most recently, while attending a team-building and training meeting, I was persistent in my need to get back to my room and then to the hotel gym to exercise. One of my co-workers even commented that my dedication was inspirational. It's always rewarding when you can help people see what a little dedication can do!
