Just have to say that Firefight mode is fantastic. Iím very disappointed there is no matchmaking with this and I even posted on Bungieís site about this. However, using my friends list and seeing recent people Iíve played Halo 3 with, it wasnít too hard to find a match on my own. Iíve done this solo and with groups of 2-4 people. It is more fun with more people involved. Here is hoping they include something like this with Halo Reach next year, but with matchmaking included.

Yeah, this game is definitely something that needs to be played w/ someone. If you have xbox live or people in the house to play, this game should be considered for your to-get list. If not, you may want to wait until it is cheaper.

Thankfully I had one of those uber-Halo players on my friends list and the two of us were able to rock through legendary in about 8-9 hours (yeah, it was a late night...or morning rather). About the same play time as the rest of the Halo games and almost zero back tracking (just a little bit in the open city hub).

After that, we had unlocked all the maps for the firefight mode and a couple of characters to use. This mode alone might be worth the price of admission. We recruited one more player and the three of us held off wave after wave of enemies for over an hour. With decreasing health, ammo, etc. and the enemies getting stronger with skulls turning on through the rounds, it made things tense. The voice work from the characters was great...saying funny lines while taking out the aliens.

Speaking of fraility, I didn't notice, at first, a huge difference between the ODST and Master Chief. However, once I ran into the first group of hunters things were more obvious. You still have great weapons, etc. you can't just blindly go in with guns firing. The new VISR mode is great too.

This was all on the first disk. Tonight, I'll be checking out disk 2, which is Halo 3's multiplayer maps. I think there are 24 of them, but all of the original maps and all DLC is included. There are also 3 news maps. Besides the various built-in play types (flag, oddball, deathmatch, zombies, etc.) you can either build your own maps or download some from bungie.net directly to your box.

This is probably one of the coolest things, being able to sync with bungie.net. You can see all your stats, your friends' stats, heatmaps of where the action is on maps, and download pictures, videos, or maps made by anyone.

No prob! Glad to help out whenever I can.

Sadly, I don't have an Xbox =(

I've got a PS3 (the unwanted step child this generation it seems but that's a whole other thread!).

That being said, I'm a big Halo fan. I used to play the old Marathon games on my Mac (Marathon = the first game from Bungie) and have loved all their games. I've played Halo 1 and 2 but haven't played the other games.

Maybe by the time I get the 360, Halo 3 and ODST will be budget price =)

Thanks for the heads up on that. I really want that action figure too! Too late now, I went with Amazon.com. They offered same day delivery, $10 future game credit, and the Sgt. Johnson game code. I wonder how many people are going to fight over who gets to be Sgt Johnson? lol

You getting it SoHo? Anyone else? I'm hoping to rock this tomorrow night and would love to play some campaign or firefight co-op with you all.

I'm hearing a lot of good things about that firefight mode. I guess it is like the Horde mode of GoW 2, but upped a notch. Hopefully I'll see of you online and we can try this together.

I've purposefully put off buying the Mythic map pack, since all the mappacks to Halo 3 are included with this game. Should be fun.

Yes, halo wars was the one I was thinking about. I completely missed the ODST thing, although I do remember seeing some things about how you go back and forth over time to figure out what happened.

lol, you're always right! lol

I think we posted at the same time down below... I was replying to Anthony.

But yeah, I'm getting pretting stoked about this. Mostly because when I sold my 360 last year, Halo 3 went with it. This will give me a chance to play Halo multi-player again!

Anyone ever play griff ball (I think that is what they called it)? Every so often, Bungie has weekends where they play this...kind of like football...Halo style. Run the ball to the goal without getting clobbered by a hammer or sword. One room, open field.

You might be thinking of Halo Wars. That is a RTS based on the Halo universe. Halo Wars has been out for a while now; I last saw it at Wal-Mart for new at $39. This game is a FPS, as will be Halo Reach next year. This game, is set between Halo 2 and Halo 3. It follows the story of the ODST (Orbital Drop Shock Trooper) on earth. Halo Reach, as I understand, is a prequel to Halo 1.

And yes, Brutal Legend will be fantastic. If you have a pre-order via Gamestop, you can play the demo starting Friday.

I was watching the special on that game and it seems that this Halo is like a open world fps. Your right that there is no master Chief in this one but it fills in the story gaps. You start off as a rookie that gets seperated from your group. The game is a series of flashback as you try to figure out what happen to your squad.

I have not been following this. Your info seems like a different game then i thought it was. I thought it was an rts style...
maybe I will check it out more. I still have no immediate plans to get it. I am saving up for Brutal legend

Wow, the new Halo is almost upon us. There are a few things I wanted to highlight, in case you might have missed any of the press coverage.

First, this isnít like the other Halo games. No Master Chief, no special armor, canít run as fast, canít jump as high, canít dual wield. Despite what some have rumored, this wonít be squad based combat or stealth. This is still a one man show with cool weapons, you just have to be a little more careful. You also get a new visor that doesnít have a mini-map showing enemies, but it does have the ability to outline enemies in red once you see them. Very helpful for dark areas, etc. The pistol from the first Halo comes back, with power and zoom!

Second, this game sounds like it comes on two disks. The first is the main disk, which contains a semi-open world environment. You go around finding ďcluesĒ, which launch a mission. These missions can be played in any order you want. As with other Halo games, you can find skulls, which can be turned on and off to change the game experience. On a side note, my favorite skull from Halo 3 was the grunt head shot one, where confetti came out and kids cheered. Back to the skulls, these can be used in the new firefight mode. Similar to Horde mode in GoW 2, you and 3 other buddies can team up to fight wave after wave of enemies. They are random and donít stop until you do.

The other disk contains all the maps from Halo 3, including all of the map packs released. There will be three new maps on top of these, which count towards the mythic map pack. This is loads of fun and more than just run and gun type gamesÖthere is the zombie games, the football-like gamesÖyou can even goof off with soccer balls!

Third, there are a couple of bonuses to look out for in this. For those that pre-order this, they get a code to use Sgt Johnson. Pretty sure this is just for firefight mode, but Iím not totally sure. Second, for everyone that gets this game, you get to participate in the Halo: Reach multi-player beta.

So, is anyone planning on getting this next Tuesday? What are your thoughts about it?
