People that have played SSBM, which is a lot of people, like the GC controller because everything plays almost the same. Personally speaking, I like the Wiimote too. Not only the shaking smash, but I can keep my hands at my sides and just chill while playing.

As for Toon Link, he was not there before. There are a couple of characters that show up only after you beat SSE once through. I'm not sure if you noticed already or not, but with Toon Link you got a new stage to play on too. In the event mode, one of the events use this stage..which gave me a bit of a challenge.

I've heard that the gamecube controller setup is the way to go. I don't have one, so I don't know. Personally, I'm fond of shaking the wiimote for a smash attack. It makes for some frantic brawls. :-)

On a side note, I beat Toon Link in the story mode last night. Was he there all along and I missed him the first time through? He was really tough for me, but I got him eventually.

I am amazed at the number of button combos. You can do an attack, a strong attack, a sliding attack, a smash attack, or a combo attack...all with what you combine with the A button.

What helped me was switching up the button layout. I couldn't jump using the C button, so I moved it. Very nice touch.

Good luck Willow. By going back, you can unlock a few more characters (if you haven't already).

That is okay about not adding me. I have not had time to check it out since of Final Fantasy Crisis Core. I will try to get some time to get on there sometime this weekend.

Sorry Lobo, I know I haven't entered in your code yet. :-(

I'll try to remember to do it tonight, but realistically, I won't have time to play until Friday night anyway. And, my husband has already claimed that as time for just the two of us...I'm going to have to see if he counts playing SSBB together as together time. :-)

No one can touch xbox live right now. I love xbox.com too. I can go on there while doing homework and see what my friends are up to, send them messages, etc. There is a lot of detail. I can see what level they are playing on, what difficulty level, what achievements they have done, etc. And now, I can even see who is on their friends list.

You may be right on seeing more people online. I just wish it were like XBOX live though. Can anyone compare to Microsoft in online gaming. Geez. I just connect and check too and get disspointed that no one accepted my friend invite.

I haven't gotten to play with friends either. Since I only get online long enough to check if anybody is on, it's pretty hard for me to hit anyone else online at the same time.

I think you're right, though, once I finish the story mode, I'll probably spend more time online.

You're right. They should at least allow you to see if they are playing this game. Like, once you log into the Nintendo network, then you can see your friends are available.

You should start seeing more friends online soon. As people are finishing up SSE, unlocking all characters and stages, then they will probably play online more.

Sorry I have not been online to check this game out with friends. I need to get around to doing it one of these day. I hate that you can not see like xbox when your friends are online. Thats what I consider bad about the game.

Yeah, items can be real deal breakers. That is probably what makes the game accessible for new comers versus veterans. I actually like the smash ball, but some character smashes are really weak. For instance, Wario's. Others, like Lucas can bring the whole sky down. My favorite is probably Snake's for how fun it is.

The thing that messes me up the most is the items. It seems like every time I almost win, I get messed up by a bomb or a star rod. :-(

I'm still trying, though. I'll have to give DK a shot at it tonight. I don't think I've tried him yet.

I think it's the ones where you have to fight all of the regular characters and where you have to fight all of the new characters that I'm stuck on.

I just keep trying out different characters, but I haven't found that magic one that will beat all eight people. I got really close with Metaknight, though. :-)

Any particular event you are stuck on? This game seems to have a certain amount of luck involved and I certainly got lucky on a few events.

That last boss took me a couple of times. I have to say, I like the maze more than I liked the rest of SSE.

Anyone else doing the events? I'm on the last event (#41) and having a heck of a time beating it. I cleared all the other ones but this one. Any tips for beating it?

'Super Smash Bros.' Fast-Seller Ever
Posted by Stephen Johnson - Monday, March 17, 2008 3:08 PM

Super Smash Bros. Brawl is the fastest selling Nintendo game ever, selling more than 120 copies per minute.

According to Nintendo, since its launch on March 9, the fighting action game has sold more than 1.4 million units in the United States, including more than 874,000 on March 9 alone. It has sold at a rate of more than 120 units per minute between launch and March 16.

"Super Smash Bros. Brawl has made the leap from video game to cultural phenomenon," said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. "Game reviewers and the public alike praise its fun game play and extensive, inventive content."

I would wait until you finished to go back. There are certain unlockable characters that you get only once you beat SSE and go back. There are two or three ways to unlock each character, so you don't HAVE to go back if you don't want to.

Stage of the day can be found in a round about way. Once you've logged online, go to options. From there, opt for the brawl service. Every day that you log in, you will be given a new custom stage. You will get to play that stage until next time you log in and the old one will be replaced with the new one.

As far as the crowns and flags on the SSE, the flags mean you have gone through the stage, but didn't find every item in that stage. If you completed it and opened all the doors and found all the items, you will get a crown on that dot. It is possible to finish the SSE without getting 100%.

Also, I'm way behind you guys in the story mode, so you have to let me know how it's going.

Does anyone know why some of the spots on the map have little flags and some are kinda glowing (I can't remember exactly what they look like)? I'm talking about the stages that I've played through already.

Wow, stage of the day!? Where is that? All I see when I go online is Brawl with friends (regular brawl or 2-man teams) and Brawl with other people (just the regular brawl).

I'm going to have to explore around a bit more. :-)

Well I have a problem. I have games that have not even been played. Mass Effect, Call of Duty 4, I have not finished Gears. Mario Galazy is 30 something stars away from being complets. Zelda is on back burners and now SMB and LO is taking my time. I really will be glad when I stop working at the game store.

I think we are pretty close then because I just got the suit yesterday too. My weekend has been in conflict as well, dividing my play between these two great games.

If I remember correctly I am at the part where SAMUS gets her Metroid suit. Still dont think I am at 50% yet. Geez this is a long game. Sorry but I started Lost Odyseey yesterday morning and man I got hooked on it. The battle system runs so smooth and plays like a moive when you do attacks. That is so awesome.

How are you doing on the story mode? I really want to get through it to unlock the rest of the characters. Some character and stage unlocks are based off of finishing the story mode and doing a secondary event.

Nice! Let us know if you get online and what your brawl code is. I try to go online at least once a day to get the stage of the day. There have been some good ones.

I played online a little yesterday too to try out sonic, but kept falling off the stage using one of his special attacks. He's a pretty fun character though.

I just got this for PJ (my fiance) on Saturday and he played some then and I promised I would play with him tonight too. It seems a lot like the gc version expecially because you can play with the gc controller, which PJ thinks would be easier than with the wii mote. His favorite is picachu. I will be either zelda or peach because of their princess status! LOL.

Thanks to those that have provided their brawl code. I've got the list updated on the gamertag thread. I just unlocked Sonic!!!! Maybe I'll try him against you all if we meet online.

I've heard the story mode should last about 8 hours or so. Once complete you may not even get 100%. You can go back and put the stickers on for powering up and find secrets, trophies, etc.

Thanks for the tip Link! That's what I mean about my husband and I not being observant. We can't find stuff on our own without a lot of looking. :-)

I like DK too. Not sure if you already know it, but you get something special if you use DK in 20 brawls.

When you all have your friends codes, I'll send you some of my created stages. I've unlocked all the pieces and have made stages called: "Luke, I am your Father", "This is SPARTA!", and "Gears of War".

OK, maybe TODAY I'll get to studying. lol

Willow, there is a way to do team battles without going online. If you go to the big "Brawl" thing under co-op(what is it, co-op? or something. its the option on the main screen that isn't the single player one). Anyway, when you go into "Brawl", it normally just does free-for-all's, but if you click the option at the top that says its doing free-for-all, it will change to color-based team battles. To change teams, just click the color on the character's portrait. Easy as that :)

I just picked up my copy yesterday, and my husband and I spent the rest of the evening playing.

We tried out a lot of the different modes, but we sometimes had difficulty figuring out how to set up the two player (it's not that difficult, we're just not that observant).

Is there a way to do two-man teams that isn't online? My husband prefers co-op to head-to-head, and there didn't seem to be a brawl option that was co-op. We ended up playing the story mode and the events mostly since we could work together there.

I'll try to remember to bring my code tomorrow so that I can post it.

Yeah, it is really hard to study for my mid-terms with this game around. I've been playing too much I think. 74 trophies, 5 unlocked characters, and about 20% done with SSE. Does anyone have a favorite character they like to use? I like almost all of them.

My son was sleeping when we got home so I did not get to play with him. LOl. I know he is becoming a gamer at an early age but he still does other things to burn off calories. Like we went to chucky cheses and I played this soccer game where you kick the ball pass the goalie. The following day he was kicking around a soccer ball all over my in law's house. Funny. So we was tired when we got home yesterday too. Story mode on the game is fun so far. I am up to I beleive the Lucas saga or was it the metaknight.

That's cool; glad you all got the game and are loving it. When you get a chance, let us know your brawl friend code (you'll see it the first time you log online with brawl).

I love this game.

My girlfriend, who is a very casual gamer (likes MarioKart and Wii Sports) - played with me and was playing as well as I was, and was having a blast. Add to this the amount of controller options (don't have to go out and buy Wiimotes and Nunchuks), and this game is party gold. I can't wait to play with 3 other people later.

The graphics are nice, and the attack animations are beautiful. I love the Final Smashes and found myself trying different characters just to see what their Final Smashes were.

I haven't tried online play yet, but probably will at some point this week.

Picked up the game and found it to be just amazing. The moves are a little better and the use of the wii remotes is great. The side scrolling adventure game has been great so far and the story going with it is pretty good. Played a couple of hours of it on Sunday. Had trouble at first trying to get the save file made for teh adventure game. Hope to get some playing time tonight and add everyone to my list from the list that Ryan compiled for us.

I just picked this up and played it for a little bit. Very nice so far. If you liked either of the first two, this is right up your alley. The online feature is pretty solid for what it is (no voice chat, etc.) BTW, my friend code is 3136-6243-9423.

It is nice to have the ability to use any controller. I am using the Wiimote & chuck, but had to customize the button layout (which is a very helpful feature).

I was thinking about entering a local tournament. I know I would be out in the first round, but maybe I can find some local friends to add to my list.

I have to admit, I've been playing Melee and reading about Brawl on Nintendo's site and I can start seeing the positives of this game. There is something for everyone. I heard somewhere that the adventure mode will even be an 8 hour long old-school side-scrolling event. That would be pretty sweet.

There will be a tournment at Game Crazy starting at 8PM the night of the midnight release. I am only buying this game so that me and my son will have something to play together. For a 3 year old he definately is getting into gaming. When i was at the game store last night playing army of 2 he took the controller and hogged the game for a good 10 minutes. Yes he did not know how to aim but he shot his gun and moved around alot. Needs to get the two joystick movement going and he will get better.

OK Willow and BMMowers, I'll be counting on your reviews. I read IGN's 9.5 review this morning and am still on the fence. Personally, I thought they had quiet a few negative things to say to still give it a 9.5 review.

The selling point for me will be the online play. If it is easy to match up with your friends, I'm there!

Speaking of, check the friends code list later today. I'm trying to compile a single list of friends codes from our group.

I had only played the original on N64 and never the one on Gamecube, but I pre-ordered it due to all the hype and am hoping I will enjoy it.

I'll let everyone know my impressions once I start playing.

Hey Willow625, I would love to know your thoughts once you pick it up. Specifically, I would like to know if the Wii's controls make it more fun or if I'd be better sticking with the GameCube controls. Also, how easy it is to hook up with someone online and play; especially someone on my friends list.

I have SSBB pre-ordered, but honestly I'm getting it more for a party game than to play myself.

I only played the previous one at other people's houses and I liked that I could just pick it up and still be competive. So, I thought it would be fun to have for when we have friends over.

yeah, Bungie posted something about that and said that everyone who had previously downloaded them had to delete them and download the maps again but would not be charged for the second time.

I'm glad you are both of the same opinion. I have SSBM for the cube, but it just didn't hold my attention very long. I know it isn't exactly a fighting game, but the combos are sort of shallow IMO.

BTW Misobsession, I tried to play Halo 2 with you, but my files were corrupted by the update as well.

Who here is planning on getting this? Do you think it will be vastly different than the GameCube version, or more of the same? What are your thoughts?
