This thread is now officially closed.

I think those who have been involved with the Buddy Support Group over the last three years can agree that it is pretty well defunct.

By now, you have all received an email from new Spark Team Leader Teague detailing some new threads for SP Class of January 4-10, 2009. I encourage you all to click on over and see what might be coming down the Spark pike for you.

As you may remember, I became a Team Leader for this SP Class to facilitate the admin of the Buddy Support Group and its sponsors.

As we are no more, I will be removing myself as a Team Leader.

We had a good run, BSGers.

Cheers!

I'm hearing lots about those fitbits. Apparently you can upload them straight to sparkpeople. Very handy!

Hey everyone, you should get an email from me, you're new Team Leader with some updates to our Team site and new threads... Have a bit of a look around and see what you think. I added in a new 'Daily Chatter' thread that is in the General Discussion Forum at the top of the page. Drop in and say hi. Probably looking at replacing this BSG discussion thread with this newer one:

Stopping by to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving! Take time today to reflect on your accomplishments, give thanks, and count your blessings.

Here is a thought:
wouldn't it be a shame if the only time we reflected on our blessings was that one Thursday in November?

Have fun today. I hope you are spending it with family and friends. Are there any Turkey Trotters out here?

As always, Make it a Great Day!
Jeff

Hola Christine & Teague - Tiny BSG, indeed. lol

Christine - I know just how you feel about this time of year. It's when I think of comfort foods, too and the dark is always a problem. And the cold. My desire to be outdoors drops at the rate of the temperature.

I haven't given up, I just don't know what habit buster I want to use, or if I want to go back to showing pounds lost.

September and October was a lot of travel, followed by Thanksgiving, Halloween, a humongous fall cleaning and putting the outdoors to bed before the cold temps made it difficult. We hung the outdoor lights on Sunday, because it was 61 Fahren. Now, it's 31.

We decided to have a whole month of entertaining in November, so we are giving intimate dinner parties every weekend. I'm keeping it as healthy as possible. Lots of fall fruits and vegetables and making desserts that focus more on flavor and less on calories. Still, there is wine and cheese and....

All my exercise seems to focus on functional at the moment, and there is plenty of that.

I could do a better job of checking-in here, that's for sure.

Christine - You may be hitting a plateau, but you've been doing a stellar job. emoticon emoticon

Teague - Yes. We would like it if you wouldn't injure yourself. ;-)

Hi Christine! I'm doing good. I reckon i'm about 5kg's behind the timeline i made in September but still learning and improving so can't complain. Just have to start shedding those kilos! i'm going to start running again soon. that will have an impact on the weight quickly. just have to take it VERY slowly so i don't reinjure my feet.

Hi Teague and Elen

Glad to see you guys are still checking in.

I've struggled a lot this last month. The cold weather makes me want comfort food and the darkness makes me want to stay in bed instead of going to the gym. Unfortunately, I've had a couple weeks of giving in. But I've been mostly back on track this week, and I haven't seen too much damage on the scale. Just a lot of slow down.So I'm hoping for a loss this week, but we shall see.

Elen, I see you still have no tracker. Have you given up on it?

Teague, you said you were feeling close to success. How's that going for you?

Take care, tiny BSG group!

Hola BSGers,

The weather has been so gorgeous. That fall color is poppin'. We are, like everyone I am sure, doing a lot of fall outdoor maintenance and putting away of the gardens. We've had our Thanksgiving, of course, and it looks like pumpkinland around here now.

As soon as Halloween is over, I'll be out there stringing lights for Christmas -- No, I won't be turning them on -- so that my fingers don't freeze off later in November!

I'm back to my normal eating routine. My exercise routine is picking up. No scale change since vacay, except I lost the pound I gained. I'm feeling good.

How about everyone else?

I'm hearing you about the stasis! i have to get moving and keep moving too. i'm only very mildly moving. did a bodypump class last night and a few walks a week. want to up the walking and then upgrade that gradually to jogging.

Food has been great this week. had a mango smoothie with some LSA and protein last night. it was delicious and filling!

Weigh in is tomorrow! must use that as motivation whilst i am trying to work out if i'll buy a pizza hut for dinner or some grilled fish with vegetables!!!

Hola BSGers!

I'm back from Central Michigan, which was awash in autumnal color. Every day we were there, the color deepened. I think I'm finished traveling until spring. Shew!

Canadian Thanksgiving is over. I'm a survivor. Dinner was yummy, but I didn't overdo it.

The weather is that temp that all I can think about is making soup.

How goes the goals?

I feel like I'm in stasis. Something has to move. Oh, that might be me!

Cheers.

Hola BSGers!

What a gorgeous day here. I know. My ticker is gone. I'm trying to decide on what ticker I want to put up next.

I'm going to see my mama. Wahoo! And my sister. Double Wahoo! I don't know how much I'll be checking-in over the next several days. I will be eating well and getting as much walking/raking/pumpkin-toting as I can fit in.

Teague - I hope you are feeling better.

Have a great weekend!

i've had a lazy food week. emoticon bad prep and focus. have been distracted by getting things ready for big party at our house on the weekend. lots of cleaning and shopping and also been a bit under the weather a couple of days this week so have been going to bed early as well.

lots of exercise though! i was planning on trying out some group classes at my new gym but because of the above distractions and feeling a bit sick i didn't end up going. on the cards for next week.

Thank you, Christine. It's the 8th of October. I generally forget myself, because I still think Thanksgiving ought to be in November. :-D

That pound is already gone, baby gone. Wahoo! I wish I could interested in running, but it just is not my thing. I never enjoyed it at any age. I'm sure you will do quite well, and you're doing a great job overall. Keep up the good work!

Cheers!

Teague, great work on the exercise! Keep it up, and let us know how the 12 week challenge goes.

Elen, I am SO jealous of the seafood extravaganza! I love fish and shellfish. It sounds amazing. I'm sure I would have gained more than just one pound. And Happy Thanksgiving! I know I'm early, but if I don't say it now, I might miss it.

I'm still doing the C25K program. Started week 7 with the 25 minute run. So far, I haven't collapsed in a heap, so I'm feeling good. Would love to see the rest of these pounds follow their friends out the door.

Talk at ya next week!

Hola!

I'm back from a 10-day anniversary trip to Prince Edward Island, our smallest province. We went for the International Shellfish Festival and Fall Food Flavours. Lots of walking and eating. I gained 1 lb. It's beautiful, and I would love to go again. I ate nothing but fish and seafood for a week. I don't have a lot of interest in meat anymore.

The three weeks prior to that, I was taking a self-editing workshop. It was pretty labor-intensive.

I'm going to start tracking something else with my ticker because, well, it's boring me. :-D

Also, need to step up the strength training.

Happy Autumn! Canadian Thanksgiving is just around the corner. October 8th. Shew!

It won't be long until we're into a new month.

KRISTINE - Congrats on meeting your weight goal! emoticon

CHRISTINE - You are losing pounds right and left. I see it in my friend feed. emoticon

It sure is a wonder that people have stayed for that long. its nice to think that maybe everyone has achieved their goals and moved on to other things.

I did a great bunch of exercise this week. trying out a new gym this month. i also got a couple of walks in in the mornings before work and started a 12 week challenge with my partner for exercise. lots of walks with the dog after work too.

Hey Teague

Glad to hear your holiday went well. Sounds like a good time.

I'm not sure where everyone went off to, either. I guess three years is a long time to expect people to hang around when the only thing we have in common is the time we joined.

I will keep checking in once a week or so. I'll be excited to hear where your current motivation takes you.

Hi Greenbird! Nice to meet you! i'm glad spark has been working for you. i'm the same weight i was when i started in 2009. i'm feeling great though and am highly motivated and feel like i have learnt so much. i've never been a smoker but i feel like weight loss is one of those things where the more time you try the closer you get each time to achieving your goals. i'm sure i'll make it this time!

HI! I'm still here and so is my sister, we joined in Jan.of 2009. I send my time on a cholesterol team, so not here much. We check in now and then to see if anything is going on and yes things have slowed down. Just hang in there this Sparks People works, it's kept me going for the last three years plus. I will check back here sooner, to see what's happen. emoticon Later, later.

Hi Christine! Back from holidays! was lovely to head to the west coast of Australia and enjoy some warmer weather and see new sights. and of course winery tours are always fun! emoticon

Food wasn't too bad. worst thing I ate was some pizza plus we did lots of walking as well.

looks like the team is gone doesn't it Christine? no idea why... we had 4 or 5 on here then everyone disappeared at the same time. strange.

Ugh. First week of school has been tough. My tracker also didn't move this week. So I'm thinking I need to lower my calories some, even though Spark has them pretty high. Hopefully I'll see some movement on my Saturday weigh in.

How are you doing, Teague? Hanging in there, I hope. Anyone else out there to report?

Thanks Christine! Always a great pick me up to hear some encouraging words. I agree with you on the morning exercise. If you don't make it a priority there's always things after work to get in the way! Still... its' pretty hard getting up at 5:45am!

There's been a lot of positives with my workouts... though this week, so whilst one area has been bad there are 2 or 3 areas where i've improved and stuck to my guns. so i have to remember to keep a balanced view of things and just correct what's not working and not get down on myself.

HOPE EVERYONE IS HAVING A GREAT WEEKEND!

I'm sorry things aren't going well. I have the same problem with morning exercise. Once I start to slack off, it's pretty much over. I tell myself that if I don't do it in the AM I have to do it after work, but I'm so dang tired when I get home that it never happens.

I wish I had the magic answer of what provides motivation, but we all have to find our own way. Hang in there, Teague. When you decide you can do it, you will move mountains!

Hey Teague

Wow, $16 a month, that's a deal! I'm paying way more than that and I don't even use the gym much during the warm months.

I get what you mean about the food habit. One of my problems is that when I lose a lot of weight, I want to go back to eating the old way. It's hard to come to terms with the thought that this is how we have to eat FOREVER. It sucks, but I've decided that being chubby sucks more. :-)

Good job on the alcohol intake. That's a big battle right there. Keep up the good work, and keep us posted!

Anyone else out there? We'd love some check ins! :-)

Hmm... well weigh in wasn't great. measurements were the same or lower but weight was up to 81kg's.

I have an extra day off work tomorrow which i'm looking forward to. i'm going to do some cooking and prep. Make sure my bag is packed to head to the gym after work.

CHRISTINE: i was on a 6 week challenge which is finished now. i have some vouchers to try out some gyms in my area so i'm shopping around. being winter here i've found some cheap deals. $16 for a month!...

i really must get rid of this idea that i can take days or weeks off watching food. its easy to undo previous hard work. vigilant at all times. i've been doing great keeping the liquid calories down. very happy with that!

I just joined the BLC team for the same reason. There's only so much that the 3 or 4 of us left can do for each other.

Glad to hear you were tracking this week. Why did you join a new gym? I thought you were already doing stuff with a trainer.

Best of luck on your weigh in!

i've started tracking again since Monday. Tonight / tomorrow will be my first weigh in post again. i've gone up, not unexpectedly.

Hi Teague!

How's it going?

Sorry to abandon you! School starts in 2 weeks and I've been spending a lot of time in my classroom. Also trying to keep up on the healthy choices. So not a lot of time for posting. But still here for you!

CHRISTINE: Great to hear from you! Sounds like you are doing a great job planning ahead for any problem scenarios you might run into on vacation. Keep up the good work! I like how you're taking it easy on yourself as well. I find even just some concious eating without heaps of scrutiny can keep me from falling off the good food wagon over holidays.

I'm still here and hanging in. Still doing what I can. Had my weigh in today and didn't lose anything, despite 6 days of working out and eating pretty well. But I had a big loss last week, so I've figured everything is just evening out.

Next week I'm traveling on vacation. Looking forward to it, but a little nervous about nutrition and getting exercise in. I'm planning ahead and also bringing snacks and work out gear. The challenge will be following through with exercise and making good food choices instead of pigging out.

I'm taking my computer, so I will be tracking. Hoping that will help me prevent a gain next week, though I'm not expecting a loss.

Are any of our other teammates lurking out there?

Christine :-)

That's great news that you are feeling better!! I'll be careful and take care of my feet too. Even walking will be a nice start. I did enjoy the mornings where i got out and about before work for a 30 minute walk. Makes me feel more centred.

It's a chilly 10 degrees tomorrow! Brrrr... and it's soooo windy at the moment. Which is ok. i like windy. Just as well as we live down at the coast!! emoticon

Ooh, I hope you feel better soon. Bleah. I forget all the time that your seasons are the opposite of ours... not many colds/viruses in the summer.

Everything is better with me... I did it by sleeping in a bad position... my hub was gone on a trip, and I made the mistake of sleeping on his pillow instead of mine. :-
I have another short race coming up Thursday, and then a trip with the family, then school starts for everyone! :-D

HI Team! Sorry i haven't posted in a few days. Very run down at the moment. I have had a virus and its knocked me around a bit. Had a few days off work too.

6 week challenge finishes tomorrow night. Looking forward to a bit or R&R. The plan is to enjoy getting up normal hours for a week or two and concentrate on getting some good nutrition in and getting my strength and energy up there again. my motivation is still fine (not perfect by any means) and i think i have a worked out a really great tracking system that works for me now too. so looking forward to getting back to that in a week or two as well.

Sorry to hear about your back Kristine! My other half has had a nasty twinge around the ribs as well this weekend.

The rewards i've thought of are a relaxation massage when i reach 75kg's and some new workout clothes at 70kg's.

Hi Gang

Just checking in. I'm still on track and feeling good about my progress. I'm still not seeing a difference in my appearance or how my clothes fit. Hopefully that will happen in the next few weeks, because it's a big motivator for me.

Glad to hear everyone is doing well and working toward their goals. Let's keep it up! Our team may be tiny, but we're STRONG!!!!

Hi TEAM! Just dropping in for a hello! I didn't post much for most of last week but i've updated all my blogs so i'm up to date with all my tracking and posting and weigh in summaries.

KRISTINE: to answer a question you asked on my blog I don't have any rewards in place for attending exercise / keeping to plan... i only have rewards in place for reaching weight loss goals.

I never thought of planks for c sections! Interesting. I do remember that when I was be careful about separated abs, I wrapped my arms around my abs (left arm across body and around right hip, right arm across body and around left hip).... the idea is to "hold everything together" to help promote healing/prevent further separation. :-/

KRISTINE: i think i'm getting enough hours of sleep but the quality hasn't been great. Also my veggie intake is too low for the amount of exercise i've been doing. low nutrient levels... its a common problem when i start trying to pick up my exercise. makes me run out of steam after about 3 weeks. ie. last night's dinner was delicious but it only had mushrooms and spinach in it and that's the first veggies i've had all week. and its wednesday now!

CHRISTIE: i agree with Kristine, there's probably an article floating around somewhere about it! maybe just ab exercises where you don't move, like planks/bridges... swiss ball ab exercises... if you google 'post c section exercise' it comes up with a few sites with exercises.

I had a bit of an eating blow out yesterday but back on track today. I've noticed these days increasing a bit as i get a few weeks into my efforts. maybe i'm getting tired or not having enough variety.

Madeline's birth was so easy! I signed my name on some papers and wham...they handed me a baby! I had a very hard time giving birth to my almost 9 lb son, so that is why I had the section. It took me a year (no joke) to recover from his birth, so this is easy!

I am starting everything from the beginning...walking workouts...strength training and eating clean. Hard work but hoping it actually works~!

Keep us all motivated with your success!

Aw man, Christie... I didn't realize you had to recover from a c section. I had an emergency c section with my oldest, and it was a rough recovery. :-P And my abs separated in pregnancy. Double :-P Seriously, it's only in the last couple of years that I've been truly willing to do the big ab stuff (and my youngest is 6).

But you don't have the basketball in the way now. ;-) There are probably good "recover from c section" exercises somewhere on SparkPeople... have you looked? I'm trying to remember what I did, and for the life of me, I can't.

Ooh--final time--2:38? It makes me think my original time might have been wrong.

Little bit of a "let down" with reaching the goal, so I'm glad I already had the other goals in place, or it would have probably been disastrous (if you know what I mean). I really feel like I have the next thing to work on. Also, I've signed up for an olympic length tri as part of a relay team; I am doing the running portion. I think this is such a great thing--I can't flake on it, because the swimmer and cyclist are counting on me.

To deal with some of the let down, I tried on pants (honestly, my favorite "this is really happening" motivator). My pants are not snug. My pants look good. ;-)

I hope you're getting enough rest, Teague. how are the feet?

KRISTINE: emoticon on reaching your goal! Now you can start moving to other goals more like measurements, body composition, and fitness goals and away from numbers on scales.

I'll have to post my final time for the sit ups too.

I'm sooo tired this week. Looking forward to finishing the 6 week challenge. I think an early night is called for today. up at 5:20am tomorrow morning for training.

Yeah, when I weighed in yesterday, I saw the magic number. I'm a little afraid that I was just dehydrated from the race the night before, so I think I'm going to hang loose for a week or two before I do anything.

I realized that I was moving closer to maintenance a week or two ago and that it kind of freaked me out, so I started reading maintenance articles, thinking about new goals, and checking out the maintenance teams. I joined two teams, and I think the "at goal and maintaining" one looks pretty active and supportive.

One of my goals is to get firmer (put on more muscle), so I've been thinking about how to do that. I'm probably going to set a new goal to lose 5 more pounds, but more slowly. I am going to have to adjust the calories, too, and I think the next few months are really going to be about adjustment. I need to have more direction with my strength training, too. I'm rambling.... I've blogged about some of this, too. What I'm realizing is that basically, I'm definitely going to continue tracking for a while and keep making goals so I can stay focused.

There are a lot of SP articles about maintenance, but I suppose not as many as I would like. The folks in the "at goal" team are very supportive and have a lot of advice. (Some fits well, some doesn't, but as always, you just take what fits and ignore the rest.)

If I have a couple more weigh-ins that indicate that I really reached my goal weight (that it wasn't an anomoly), I'll change my ticker, change my cals, all that stuff.

haha! that's a problem with the time difference! i'm doing the last 100 on saturday 21st July.

Hoping next week will be a bit more successfull than this week. Need to do some food prep this weekend and up my calorie intake back to the 1200 mark as well. Been a bit too low this week and could feel the effects by the end of the week. mainly in the form of cravings.

II didn't get my situps in yesterday--I'll make up for it today. I went on 2 hikes (total of over 6 hrs?), and on one of them, my 8 yr old twisted his ankle, and I wound up having to carry him on my back (we had a child carrier along, thank goodness) for ~3 miles. And then there was a swim party last night. *And* I was battling a headache for most of the day, so at the end of the day, I was just beat.

The 100 sit ups on the two weekend days was a hard slog but i got them done! i've been doing them in 4 lots of 25 with a bit of a stand up and stretch in between. just have to avoid laughing today as I sure am feeling those tummy muscles.

KRISTINE: Great job on the time! most of the others in the group ranged between 3 and 4.5 minutes. i'm just extra slow! there was one girl over 6 minutes though!

Looking at how much extra calories i had on the weekend i'm going to have to work pretty hard between now and Thursday weigh in to make my goals. I don't think i'll get anymore than about 0.5kg's loss if any. I think a 7000 calorie deficit will be a bit harsh in the remaining days. I am planning on an extra group training session on wed night though. I had some thoughts about going tonight but they just remained thoughts!

Wow, I'm so impressed that you guys can do all those sit ups! And I was feeling proud just for taking a walk. Maybe someday soon I will be in good enough shape to do that, too!

Anyway, just checking in. Great to see that the two of you are still working hard. It makes me want to keep up with you. Cograts on the loss, Teague.

I'm still doing pretty well on the exercise, but my calorie intake was definitely higher this week. Lots of lunch dates and such where I had less control over what I could eat. I'm still proud of myself for making mostly wise choices.

Good luck with the sit ups, ladies!

Christine :-)

Just did them... 3:45. But I'm not really sure about my timing... I love sit ups (as much as I hate burpees.... hmm... I think that means I need to do more burpees). ;-)

I know about the mental plateau. One thing that helped me (I just got over one) was to go to the "secrets of success" page and just read a ton of those... they are very motivating, very short, and very real.

I started a 10 day challenge with some of my friends from work and fitness group today. 100 sit ups for 10 days. Starting Thursday and ending Saturday if anyone wants to join me?

Today i timed myself doing 100 sit ups in one go and then the same thing on the last day. But on all the days in between you can spread them out through the day.

My time was 5:21.

Hi Team! How is everyone going? My week has been good. My weekly calorie deficit is about where I was targeting so that will do me. I have to confess i'm definitely looking forward to my friday night cheat meal. heading out for dinner before the football.

I had my second toasted wrap today and it was still delicious and filling so that's a great sign for my toasted cheese sandwich replacement strategy! i adiosed the spinach and added in some avocado in this one. still experimenting.

Next week i might try some ham with low fat cottage cheese (and maybe some rocket).

This morning at training i ran 10 short shuttles as part of boxing. I'll see how my foot pulls up!

You might like what I did this morning, then... I was cranky when I got up, and I didn't want to run, even though it's my day. My 6 year old has been really into riding her bike with me when I run. She *really* wanted to go for a run. She kept asking me when we were going to run. I told her that I was cranky, but that if she would keep asking me, we would definitely do it. And we did. Her persistence was realllllly helpful.

Thanks Kristine! I'll give that a whirl. Make sure my shoes are ready then get out the door as soon as possible!

Teague, I often feel that way, even though my running is going really. I have to do a lot of positive self talk and just push myself through the steps: "okay, just put the clothes on" then "okay, just do the warm-up exercises)" then "okay, get started.... do a shorter run if you need to" and I wind up just doing it. The WHOLE thing can be intimidating, but little bites are easier.
