You can move the food around any way you need to in order to make it fit what you need. I hardly ever have the shake, I add another powerfuel in its place. You can have hummus on crackers, it's just going to take your smartcarbs for the day. I have hummus on raw veggies. I move the morning powerfuel to the afternoon with the smartcarb.

Make it work for you by putting the food where it needs to go for you.

Today, I will focus on meeting goals and seeing the finish line.

It's been a week since I started NS and while I'm still on plan and doing what needs to be done, I can already feel my enthusiasm waning. I try to be creative with my vegetable side dishes, but even with 6 or seven different sides to choose from (the same 6 or 7 I made last week) I'm feeling bored. I've been jazzing up my shakes with sugar-free coffee syrup and spices, but I'm still feeling the boredom sort of looming. I think about my NS order for next month and I'm sort of dreading it, not because the food is awful or anything, it's the structure. I resent having to eat according to the plan. I want to have hummus on crackers or cheese with crackers, but if I'm sticking to the plan, there's hardly any room for that. I made healthy egg rolls the other night for a smart carb snack, but found myself wanting to put some protein in (shrimp, specifically). The plan doesn't allow for that. I'm a little worried that I'm going to give up before completing two months, before reaching my goal.

Forging ahead, despite the obstacles...

Today I will focus on behavior.

I ate a lot of veggies last night as a reaction to a stressful day. While the food was certainly 100% on plan, the behavior felt out of control. I'm still claiming the 100% for yesterday, but I will focus on the behavior that led me to act as if though eating is a solution to a problem that isn't hunger.

Today I will focus on preparation. A failure to plan is a plan to fail. Heading out to the market with a ridiculously long list of vegetables, in preparation for the next few days. If you want today right, you have to have the right things on hand.

patience

Not a virtue that comes easily. I will be patient with myself, my family, my students. I will remember that just because the weight loss has slowed does not mean it's over. I will simply control what I can (food and movement) and not worry so much about the rest.

Today I will focus on working short bursts of exercise into my day.

Yesterday, I worked out to a carb burner video and although I'm feeling it today, I'm still on track. I'm going to run errands that will amount to about 2 miles of walking and then a video tonight. As I sit at my desk, waiting for the slow internet to load, I've been doing upper body exercises for 1 minute at a time. It all adds up, right?

Today I will focus on....

no unplanned eating

Yesterday was a munchy day. I ate carrots and cherry tomatoes like I would have eaten potato chips in another time. I felt a little out of control because I was just eating for eating's sake. Even though it was all 100% on plan it didn't feel right because I felt like I lost self control. So today I will focus on getting back to managing stress with deep breathing and satisfying the munching desire with sugarless gum.
