I'm not sure this will help, but when I was getting regular massages, my skin was fabulous. Couldn't hurt to give it a try. Even if it doesn't help with loose skin, it helps with removing toxins and relaxing tense muscles. seems like a win-win to me.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20

New International Version (NIV)

19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.

Yes, I wonder what about all that extra skin. But then it seems like if you lose your weight at a slower pace that nature might take care of that extra skin. But you know if I lose weight, then I 'll worry about that extra skin.

This is from a "Biggest Loser" email. (They didn't mention smoking. I think that would be another negative factor.)

Weight Loss and Loose Skin
It's a question the contestants get all the time, what do they do about the loose skin after losing, many of them, well over 100 pounds? For some contestants it's an issue, for others not so much. For Ali Vincent, who lost 122 pounds in Season 5, loose skin hasn't really been a problem. And she's counseled Biggest Loser Club members that the least of their problems is worrying about loose skin after weight loss. "Getting healthy is the more important thing," she says.

But if you watched a recent episode of "The Doctors," you saw Season 8 winner Danny Cahill showing the folds around his middle, and getting a surprise offer from the show's surgeons to take care of it.

Biggest Loser Club fitness expert Michael Scholtz has this to say about loose skin post weight loss: "There isn't a way to exercise that helps reduce it. As you lose weight you will see some shrinking or tightening of the skin thanks to elasticity. It happens slowly and is dependent on several variables like how overweight you are, how long you've been overweight, genetics, and your age (younger skin is more elastic)."

"But don't let the possibility of something that may not even be a problem worry you just yet," he adds, echoing what Ali says. "Focus on your health and your weight loss and have patience. It can take 6 months to a year after weight loss for the body to adjust to its new form. Your skin will look better after this adjustment."

From the Dr. Oz show: he had people on who had lost 100 pounds or more and I saw 2 women who were clearly in their 60's and standing. I could see they had no hanging skin problems. (Which gives me hope.) emoticon

My balance issues are minimal, thank God, since it was my left little toe. The rough part was the daily wound care. I am SO proud of you for finishing that race. That is one heck of an accomplishment. I bet you DID have a rough time from that pebble. Isn't that so like our hearts, too? One tiny burr of anger, fear, bitterness, resentment that goes untreated will cause us pain for a long time to come.

You know I picked up a small pebble on the race and after I was done had such a blister the next day I didn't walk a step...lol I didn't tell ya that I finished 3 from last in that race but I wasn't going to let it beat me and this weight gain I have isn't going to beat me this time either I think I'm going to try for that race again on Mother's Day 2011 in KC, Missouri

La Raine, that's astounding progress with walking! You're guilting me out. lol I so need to walk and I truly hate it. One of my reasons for my aversion to surgeries is that I cut my little toe off in a treadmill accident almost a year ago. It didn't do a lot to create a love of walking in my heart. Nonetheless!! You have lived one of my dreams, and that is to complete a charity race (even if I have to walk it). Bravo! Bravo!!!

Oh, you all help so much! Thank you! I figured, whatever I eventually do about the extra skin, even if that's just cover it up, it still will be better. Water, walking, regular body lotion...does that sum up what most people's medical advisers have suggested? It sounds so simple, but even walking can be a challenge! The community center near us has a treadmill that lowers you into the water and you actually walk in water. I'm going to go check that out this weekend.

I'm so glad you started this topic. It's one that I've been thinking about for a while. I'm worried about the skin that will be hanging when I lose 125+ pounds. I keep telling myself to not let that scare me away from losing the weight, that it can be fixed and even if not, then it's still better than the way I've been for so long. I need to have lots and lots of support to get over this worry. Did any of you have the same worries? How did you get over it? HELP!

I'm glad this issue came up for discussion! It's so reassuring to know that you aren't the only one out there with droopy skin.... Mine hangs lower / is longer on one side than on the other, and it always seems to be in the way. Never mind the big 'bird wings' hanging from my upper arms....

Some really great ideas here! Thanks for sharing them!

I think that EVENTUALLY we'll all reach our goals because WE HAVE ONE ANOTHER! The love and support I am finding here with this Team FAMILY is beyond my wildest dreams. I know that the skin thing is going to be an issue, but I talked to my doctor/friend yesterday and he agreed that giving yourself 2 years minimum after reaching your goal weight will help you start to see some firming and changes IF YOU exercise and Drink PLENTY OF WATER. He says not to waste your time and money on creams or lotions promised over the counter. He says that they are all crap! Love ya, Dawn

I found this on line a while back and saved it for myself maybe it will answer so ??

Think of how long it took your body to reach your highest weight. It didn't happen overnight, so you can't really expect your skin to become taut in such a short space of time.

Many surgeons recommend waiting two years from the day you reach your weight loss target before even considering surgery. This allows you to exhaust all options available naturally before entering into a costly and potential dangerous operation.

Step 2Nourish your skin and encourage it's elasticity. Exfoliate your skin daily to encourage removal of dead skin cells. Doing this each day will stimulate your skin's circulation which should help in tightening skin up.

Step 3Treat yourself to a hot hour-long bath once or twice a week. While the bath is being drawn, add 1/2lb of pure sea salt to the water and allow it to dissolve. Besides relaxing your body and muscles, it will draw toxins out of your skin and will improve your overall skin tone.

Step 4Determine what your body fat percentage is. It's impossible to differentiate loose skin from body fat without this figure. Many gyms are able to assess your body for this.

Step 5While you may have reached your goal weight, it's possible that your body fat percentage is still high. In order to reduce this, you should strive to change your body's composition by reducing fat and replacing it with muscle. If you haven't done so already, speak to a gym or a personal trainer to work on an exercise plan which will help you achieve this.

Step 6Aloe vera extract, soy protein and yeast extract can improve your skin's elasticity by increasing your body's production of elastin and collagen. It not only tightens your skin but your skin's natural defenses as well.

Step 7

Coconuts can help tighten your skin up!Eating raw food such as cucumber, tomato, olives and coconut can mark an improvement in your skin's elasticity.

Step 8Hyaluronic Acid is naturally found in our body's tissues. It depletes over time, so it's worth supplementing your diet with some. It is critical for muscle growth, so if you're replacing pounds of fat with muscle, it's definitely worth taking. Smokers tend to be lacking this nutrient. It needs magnesium to synthesize, so ensure you're taking magnesium daily to reap its benefits.

I THINK, that as time goes by your skin will shrink. NOT to pre weight tightness but less than right after you lost the weight.

I HOPE that is true, cause I worry about the rash under the hanging skin even now.

Honestly, I don't know about the lotion but I guess it can't HURT. Maybe we can find out and get the "proper" lotion. I know that in truth some lotions actually DRY OUT the skin. I have issues with stasis ulcers on my left leg and have to use ONLY baby lotion on my legs. I'll see what I can find out and let you know. Love ya, Dawn

Thanks, Dawn. What a wonderful, supportive letter! I like the Marching Challenge...I missed that. I might try that, or at least to work up to it. I get hundreds of emails a week, so hmmm, that's a lot of marching!

Yea, I try and drink 16 cups of water a day and I feel positive that helps a lot. I'm doing some of what you suggest, for the arms and tummy. Guess I'll just keep doing them, and add more. Does using lotion help the skin "revitalize", do you know? Like, help it heal itself? Thanks for replying, Dawn. I really needed that positive lift from you!

I love you quote.

I am sorry you're stressed out about loose skin. I have similar concerns. I've lost 117 pounds so far and need to lose another 140-150 pounds. Surgery is absolutely not an option for me. I would suggest that we just need to drink plenty of water and exercise as much as we can. For the arms, I would recommend tri-cep extensions and of course for the tummy area there are all sorts of crunches, leg extensions etc that can be done. Together, we can do this! I'm here for you. Love, Dawn

I'm not sure where to post this. Having lost 88 pounds, with a whole lot more to go, I am becoming more and more aware of lots of loose, extra skin. Mostly it's on my belly and upper arms. I know toning help this somewhat as I continue, but I don't think it will take care of it completely. Does anybody have any ideas? Surgery is not an option for me, though I've heard of it. Any suggestions would be welcome.
