I attacked some boxes that needed to be broken up before going into the recycle box. Wanted to stop almost as soon as I started but I know I probably won't get back to it until next Sunday.

Do you have one of those pen caddy/cup things? I guess even a regular cup would work. I have one from Office Depot I got years ago when I was in high school. I put my scissors in there, pencils, highlighters & sharpies I frequently use, and multiple colors of pens. I think that's probably one of the very few things I've always been organized about!

Today I'm continuing the clothes project from yesterday...joy!

I searched for a pen on my desk and got so frustrated I grabbed a bag and threw everything into it, still didn't find a pen! Will attack the bag this morning, have been up since 1:30am.

Well, today I started going through clothes. Bags, piles, a storage bin...just clothes. It was something I was supposed to do months ago but Miss Procrastinator here...well, you know. A friend of mine needs clothes for her daughter so I'm getting all the clothes put together. I have one other bag put together and is now pending pick-up by a person on freecycle for sizes my friend doesn't need.

It sort-of has turned into a domino effect project, but at least these things are going somewhere!

I am so disorganized. Just now, I was writing on a piece of paper the instructions to a clients home for my installer to put up new draperies. I got distracted for 2 seconds and the paper dissappeared! How could that happen? I just had it and then had to go after a new piece of paper. I used to have special sheets for that but ran out and am reluctant to buy new ones. OH, well. I have to, I must attack the piles on my desk as I am crazy with the disorganiztion. Maybe 2012 will be the year I can get it together. Too much going on in my life I guess. Taking 92 year old MIL to doctor at 11:00 and tomorrow at 1;45. Yesterday, hubby spent 2 hours with her at a different doctor. Had to cancel her hair appointment for next week. I'm overwhelmed. Carol

Thanks for the tips, I'll probably go the new shredder route. We don't have a fireplace, however, we do have a fire pit. Here in Fl this time of year is our dry season and not a good time to burn.

I need to get going on my tax return. As a tax preparer, I have learned that I have to get my own return done first or it will NOT get done until October. :)

I have a stack of 12 files on my desk right now that I am working my way through today.

Yesterday I attacked the pile last years receipts for my business. Ashamed to say I have such a lousy system. I vow to do better this year. I took a nap to relieve the stress I feel about my son and his employment! Trudging on. Carol

I also have a guest/catchall room, in fact, I have two. One started out as the grandkids bedrm. but it is no longer in use. Just too much junk. Well that is going to end!! I am going to start clearing it all out. Husband needs to do some much needed repairs to the room walls. So it will get cleared. As for the other one :( it has alot of nic nacs from my mother in law when she passed away, but four years have gone by and it is time for someone else to take them. I have all what I want put out. Just don't know what to do with the rest.

I attacked the pile that is/was my desk today! And the little table next to it. Small start, but it was awful. I threw out 3 grocery bags full of papers and things. I feel a little better now!

And yesterday I just cleared off the whole sink/counter area, wiped it down, threw out the random things people put up there.

I attacked a pile of produce this morning! Carrots, celery, onions, green peppers and Italian parsley, all processed and ready for the next great recipe! (And the kitchen has been cleaned up!)

you could also look at a professional shredding company or alot of places like kinkos will do your shredding for you. I have a home based business so save up my shredding and have a company do it for me once a year.

A famous designer once said that dust is a protective covering for your furniture. All kidding aside, buy a new shreader, they are cheap. Or put them in the fireplace and burn them. Papers are ridiculous and they pile up quickly. Carol

I cleaned and dusted some shelves in my livingroom. That was an accomplishment for me, dust was so thick I thought about using it for an indoor garden...LOL.

Does anyone have a quick and easy idea for getting rid of paperwork that should be shread? I have stacks, our shreader is old and takes forever (noisy too).

It pains me deeply to get rid of any book, definetly not cookbooks! What about shelves on the walls of your kitchen? I have one completely empty wall, plus I have almost two feet of space over windows and doors-old house with high ceilings. I have many platters, some quite beautiful, that I want to display in this wasted space.

Let's go to Lowes or Home Depot and price check those slide out shelves!

The hoarder in me is rearing her cluttered head again!

You ladies are getting a lot of work done. I really need to do what NIAGCHRIS246 did in her kitchen. I am overrun with gadgets, etc. I know I'm not getting full use of my cabinets as things get shoveled in the back and I forget about them. Wish I could afford those slide out things you put in cabinets. Mine are deep and I can't reach back unless I take everything out of them. I'm also over run with cookbooks. I love them for some reason, but now I don't have the room for them, so I must declutter and get rid of ones I haven't used for a long time.
So for this week's attack a pile - will be my cookbooks.
Thanks for the inspiration to get myself moving.

Anyvar, have you seen that gizmo on TV that you can scan all your receipts through and business cards, etc and stores them on your computer so you don't have to keep them? I thought about ordering one of them. Especially for business cards as I collect so many from other business owners and it would also be a way to record all my quilting expense receipts. Right now I have a basket full of them in my sewing room but I need to store them away and start a new one this year. Carol

Carol, I know that it must be hard having your office in your home. You work out of it, and do a lot of stuff for other people with your business. But you can do this.

I attacked a huge pile of receipts that have been piling up since November. My husband likes me to record every one. When it comes to needing to find one for a warranty, he can always find them.

I tore my kitchen apart. I pulled everything out of the cupboards and off the counter and piled it into four big containers in the middle of the floor. I have had a new table in my car for the longest time. The old table went out the door! Then I began putting everything away and got rid of things I never use and that had no home. I first put away things that were absolutely neccesay so that unused stuff ended up going out. I took the whole weekend to do all this.

did a big moving of furniture in the dining room last night. took everything out of the china cabinet and moved it to no location. dusted and cleaned all the stuff before putting it away. rehung pictures that had to be moved. I really think I will like this new arrangement.

Today the focus is work that needs to be done. Got a small stack of files I want to get through today

Ugh!!! No hot water again this morning. It has been of since Wednesday morning. It is really difficult to wash your hair under cold water. I guess I will have to boil some and wash my hair in the sink. Sure hope it comes back soon.

Have a great week-end

I also have a "guest room/catchall." I will have guests coming in mid-February so my focus will be on that room. I don't expect that it will be completed before the weekend is over but I'm going to chip away at it while I attend to other things that I want to accomplish. It will be so great to have that room done!!

Almost 2 weeks gone in the new year and what have we accomplished? I feel really behind because of going away for 6 days this past week but hopefully will be able to feel caught up soon. I joined Flylady this year and her philosophy and tools have really helped me. I think it is because her routine is fun and usually short, 15 min or so. When I'm required to make lists from other organizing groups, I give up on them, and soon. I've realized that I have 2 major hot spots in my home. We have 4 bedrooms and one of them is my office and one is my sewing room. We sleep in one and one is a guest room/catchall. I am overwhelmed with my office being at home and it is such a HOT SPOT of disorganization that it prevents me from putting office things away because I don't know wher to put it or I'm afraid I'll lose it. The second HOT SPOT is my sewing room and I've got sewing things all over the house as well. So my task is to take baby steps, first in my office to clean and organize and then in my sewing room. This morning, I took a bag of upholstery fabrics and put them back on the binders and back on the rack. Phew. They would have sat there for a month in my kitchen in prior days. I also took a box of product to the foyer. At least if I can keep the foyer to receive goods they won't be all over the place. Sewing will come later today but I wanted to get this posted for the week. My washing machine is humming with sheets and I'm about to get in the shower to dress myself and go to see a client. After that, I can do whatever I want until my grandson comes over and the football game starts! My friend is coming over for the game and she knows my house is a mess and so she might be surprised to see it a bit organized. So have a great week attacking those piles! And cleaning up HOT SPOTS!
