I stuck to my game plan of a two week taper commencing with 65 mile bike on Sat and 18 mile run on Sun (two weeks before event). This weekend (one week before event) I did a 45 min swim on Fri, 45 mile bike Sat yesterday and 7 mile run Sun today. This week is a 2 mile jog on treadmill on Tue. I fly to Lake Placid on Wed and throttle down to next to nothing near the end of this next week. Event day next weekend on the 26th. Feel pretty good. Climbing the walls though - I feel the pent up energy starting to build. Thanks for your response GW.

this is a tough one, for me because I am like you and feel like another hard week and then start backing off. it is pretty much a individual thing, and based on how you have done in past races and how you tapered before. I have read to start backing off the distance but increase the intensity, 10% each week starting four weeks out. It is still work in progress for me

Thought I'd ask about your tapering strategies. I'm 26 days away from IMLP. This IM is not my first. But I'm always unsure of when to start the taper. I'm already starting to feel hammered and worn out from all the training. I considered starting my taper after 4th of July weekend. But then I think, nah too early. Maybe medium effort 2nd weekend before and easy on the last week - basically staying loose.
