Runners just do it - they run for the finish line even if someone else has reached it first. ~Author Unknown

Thanks y'all! I do have a rescue inhaler I take before my runs, along with singulair and other stuff. I don't know any runners with asthma...just curious to know what works for others, that's all! I'm still a work in progress with my quack doctor (whole other talk show). For me, heat and humidity are BAD!!!!

I have had asthma for about 20 years now. I didn't really have a problem with it and running until I ran in the cold for the first time. My doctor added Singulair to my regimen of Advair. That has helped tremendously. He also suggested using a rescue inhaler before a run if it's super cold or if the addition of Singulair just doesn't seem to be working well. So far, I haven't needed it. I also use a gaiter when I run in this cold weather - today was about 32 when I started and ended up near 40 when we finished - and I was fine. Coach Nancy is right - talk to your doctor. You can certainly discuss the medications I mentioned, but he/she will know how to balance your current regimen with the addition of others. And, don't wait. You don't want to get into trouble with the breathing. I have been there and it isn't fun! Good luck!

Have you spoken to your doctor about this? Because there are various triggers for asthma treatments will vary and the best advice should come from your own physician who is most familiar with you and your medical history.

I have asthma technically, but is hasn't bothered me much in a while. My triggers were usually extreme temperatures and sometimes just exercise in general. Do you take your inhaler before running? I used to do that as a preventative and it worked well for me.

any runners out there suffer from asthma? If so, what medication has helped you?

I have good runs and very bad runs (like today) where I just cannot go anymore! I have the rescue inhaler, but that's it. Some days I push through it and come out great, but other days, not so much. I have a real hard time increasing my speed...symptoms always seem to kick in. Before our move 2 years ago, I was about an 8 minute miler...now I'm lucky to get it aound the 10 minute miler (and that's really pushing it)!!

Just curious if anyone else has the same issues, or similar, or is it me?!
