I guess I forgot to post, I did actually finish my C25K week 9 day 3 on Saturday!emoticon My time isn't astounding at all 42:35 but for me, the main thing is that I finished.

I also signed up for a real 5K in Berlin on May 14th. This will be my first organized run. I did do my Saturday run for the spark virtual run. I need to go back and check. When I put in my time for my age and sex, I was in 22nd place - but of course since I am 6 hours ahead of the USA, there were a lot of people that would be posting their runs after me, pushing me down the line. But, hey, I am really competing with myself.

In CHRIST I can!

B-Have you signed up for one of the weekly virtual races? You just post your time for your sex and age group and it's listed. Sort of a competition; I find knowing I need a good time pushes me to run faster and push harder. Just type Virtual 5k in the search thingey at the top of the page. Good luck on your 5k. Let us know how it goes.

Mariean are you finishing on the weekend? Hope that you have no rain- cool temperatures can be a blessing.
I am still trying to get my 5k time down closer to the 30 min. I expect it will take me awhile....need to shave over 3 min off of my time.

I can't believe that I have fogotten to post here in ages! Last fall I did the C25K program and made it to week 9 day 2 then got an injury and tons of snow, so 8 weeks ago, I started over completely. This time my 16 year old DD is running with me.
Today we did week 9 day 1. I logged it and I am only running about 2 miles in the 30 minutes. I am REALLY slow! In fact, my dd got a side ache and started just walking fast and could pretty much keep up with me.
I do hope to be able to finish the C25K this week and be able to move on to train for doing a 10K.

In CHRIST I can!

Tks Baileys7 of 9!emoticon
Everything I have read about the 8 k program seems to say that the intervals revert to walking. 8 k was my fave distance so I think I will go with my plan of just running another couple of minutes to make up the 5 k distance then I will work on speed.
I would love to have a podcast again to follow ....But the program has given me the confidence to continue on at my pace.
Tks for all of your encouragement Baileys7 of 9

Nice to see you back Robins78...I was wondering where you went! Glad to know you are keeping with the program.

WTG piched!

I too have finished the C25K program this past Friday! WOW what a feeling of accomplishment. To look back on where I came from and how I couldn't even run 60 seconds without feeling awful. I have my first 5K on April 30th and even though I have completed the program I am still very nervous about it. I think it will be fine. I have decided to just keeping adding time to my runs weekly like the C25K program did. So maybe this week I will run 33-35 minutes for the week and increase from there. I am so excited at where this journey has taken me!

On a side note......my husband bought me a Garmin Forerunner 210 for my birthday. I CAN NOT get the heart rate monitor to work. Anyone have experience with this?

Feels great to have completed week9 day 3.
We are heading out now for a walk as our temp is 15C around 60 F.

I plan on increasing my time to 33 min then increasing my speed.
I am currently running at 5.5 which is slower than the 5k in 30 min.
Then I would like to run 8k.

Thanks emoticonGoodluck everyone with your week 9!

What next? I want to get about ten 30 minute runs under my belt with at least 4 of them outside. Then I will start the bridge to 10K - probably around the beginning of May.

Hey Week 9ers!

I've been away from SP for a few weeks but I've continued on with this program. I was having a lot of issues with virus threats from SP's ad's. Very odd and was my first time having those...I've been off and on at SP since 2008. I know it was unusual and the tech team said they were aware and working on it. Hopefully things are good now. I'm missing SP!!

I've been really sick this week and had a stressful week with school last week that involved an all nighter (I can't handle those like I did in my early school days!) - so I am a little off schedule but have been getting sporadic runs in. I made it on schedule to end of week 7 and jumped right into running 30mins! I felt ambitious one afternoon and went for it. There have been a few runs where I've taken a minute or two in between but mostly I've been focusing hard on running solid.

I am starting to concentrate on distance. I am SLOW! But hanging in there. I'm still amazed at how nicely the body progresses!

I also haven't done many runs outside, I've been almost all indoors on a treadmill. My first official 5K race is May 1st so I have this month to take it outside. I imagine I'll have to work myself back into running regularly.

All the best to those of you in your last week or finishing up the program! Thanks for all the support over the length of this program!

Take Care

While I was doing my run today I was wishing u strength.
We still have poor conditions for running outside here.We just had a huge dump of snow.

Found it (dare I say it?) easy to run for 30 min. I am grateful.
Eight months ago walking to the house nextdoor was a challenge. So,
I may not be running 5k in 30 min but I am running continuously.emoticon

So - I am back from my finishing my first 5K!

The good news is that I finished and it was an amazing experience. Unfortunately I was behind my time goal by about 5 minutes and did not run the entire race.

While I have nothing to compare it to I can only say that I picked a really tough course for my first race. My garmin tells me that I spent 30% of the race going up hill. The biggest of which was a 60 degree incline up 282 feet. Needless to say I walked (instead of running) up a lot of the hills. (The hills on this course had my heart rate beating at 170+ bpm (the highest it normally reaches at the end of a run) while walking.)

So I finished in just over 35 minutes (goal was 30 minutes). I think my garmin has me finishing at about 35:15. My chip time was closer to 36 minutes. (EDIT: chip time 35:33)

I really enjoyed the experience and I plan to run in at least 1 event per month.

Cheers,

dp

I finished my C25K today! How did I finish it? By running an actual 5K this morning! It was awesome and a great experience. I feel great! 32:02 minutes and I didn't stop once :D

Thanks for asking! I FINISHED! The best part is that it feels like a beginning, not an end! Monday and Wed. felt great. Friday was hard, but it's Sat. now and I'm sick. So that is probably why it felt so hard. NEVER thought I'd run 3 miles without walking! I can't stop now or I will lose all this progress I've worked so hard for the last 9 weeks! Let's hear it for us!!

How did your first couple of runs go Dee? Here's hoping fantastically!

Congrats on finishing!

I finished my last run on Friday. I was nice to myself and did it inside again. :) But...it actually felt harder than when I was running in the rain. lol. It must just have felt harder because I was a little sick. Gives a new angle on being run down. ;)

But what to do now....I have no idea. My first 5k is this coming weekend. I'm hoping for sunshine, but now know I can make it through rain. After that? Maybe I'll start over and work on speed a bit.

emoticonMNCYCLIST! I guess I'll be reading your post in the "graduates" thread soon! I am starting wk 9 Monday and am very excited about it. My next goal will be to work on speed. THEN I want to take to the hills on my fav. 5 mile walk! YOU did it...and just in time for spring-time biking to get underway!! It will be hard to get myself to run, once I join DH on our long bike rides!

Yes, yes, yes!!! I can't believe I did it! I finished the CP25K program today, 3.2 miles in 33:57 which included 5 minutes of walking. I experimented with jog/run intervals today which is part of why I was able to finish 1:30 faster than my fastest jog. That's good, but what I just can't believe is that I actually did this thing!!!

Wow, that feels good--best of luck to the rest of you, it's been great sharing this journey with you and I really mean that. It would have been so much harder to do this alone. As for what's next for me, check out my blog for today--too much to go into here.

"Rather train yourself for godliness; for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come" (1TimothyÔŅĹ4:7-8)

"Jesus answered, 'The most important [commandment] is, 'Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength'" (Mark 12:29-30).
