In Newburyport we have the Custom House Maritime Museum, the FireHouse Theatre, Screening Room, the boardwalk along the mighty Merrimack River, The Rail Trail which now connects to the boardwalk, The Newburyport Art Association which displays works of many local artists and many restaurants to chose from all types of foods.

I love Lynch Park in Beverly and Salem Willows in Salem. They both have grassy areas as well as the beach. I love walking there year round. The summer is the best time of course because everything is open. Oh and Salem Willows has an amusement park for the kids too!

I live in Salem and there's two great places I love to walk, the common, each time around is 1/2 mi then there's a bike path that goes from Salem State college into Marblehead and into swampscott its a little over 5 mi when you go into marblehead in back as soon as its warmer im going to go venture further into swampscott to see how many more miles that will bring

When the nicer weather finally gets here, the Peabody Bikeway is pretty nice for biking, walking, blading, etc. It's kind of tough these days with the snow and ice. The route goes between the Middleton/Peabody line (near the Ipswich River) and the Northshore Mall area. It's about 10k long, I think. Something to look forward to!

Here's a freebie thing to do in the North Shore... Maudsley State Park in Newburyport.. Its just take a quick up on Mapquest or Google..There are many walking trails and tons of beautiful nature trails...

my niece who use to live here but moved to las vegas in 1997 was here for a visit last week, we drove down 133 and the sights were so beautifull the colors , the stands etc, she aloved it in vegas of course theres no foliage and she hasnt seen that in years, and i myself was like wow this is so pretty red and yellows , we went to rickport and walked around and to halibut point the colors again ere just gorgoues looking over all the rocks so if you havent been there in a while i suggest checking it out and not to mention its good exercise,lol

Spy on Shorebirds at the Parker River National Wildlife RefugePlum Island not only has uncrowded miles of public beach (June and August are the best times to visit; you might run into bothersome greenhead flies during a few weeks in July), it is home to the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge, a terrific birding spot with its own pristine beaches to explore.
As of 2008, admission to the refuge is $5 per car, and on busy weekends, you'll need to arrive early, as there is a limit to the number of vehicles that can enter the protected property. In the summer, you'll be able to spot magnificent shorebirds without leaving your car. Parker River Wildlife Refuge is also a great place to observe songbirds during spring and fall migrations.

When we visited in June, much of the public beach was closed to protect the nesting habitat of endangered Piping Plovers. More of the beach is usually opened to the public beginning in July.


Shop for Vintage Jewelry and Other Antiques in Essex
There are more than 30 antique shops along Route 133 in Essex, Massachusetts, a North Shore town that's just a 45-minute drive from downtown Boston.
I have a penchant for vintage jewelry, and my favorite antiques spot in Essex is the eclectic White Elephant Shop, where customers can rummage through bins of affordably priced pins, earrings and necklaces from the past. Not surprisingly, I couldn't resist the lobster pin and earrings I found, nor two sparkly vintage leaf pins.

The White Elephant Shop also has antique books, paintings, furniture and collectibles.

Hint: On weekends and Monday holidays year-round, be sure to pop into their half-price outlet one mile north of their main shop in Essex to hunt for bargain antiques, as well.

to Salem Willows for the "world's best popcorn."
Salem Willows is the rare surviving waterfront park of yesteryear; it dates to 1858. It has a few kiddie rides, picnic grounds, a fishing pier, waterfront walking trails and a bandstand... and the world's best popcorn.

When we tried our first bite, we were actually unimpressed. But as we continued to consume the fluffy, butter-soaked kernels, we became more and more enamored of Hobbs' popcorn. There was something immensely addictive about the taste and the crunch, and we were devastated to reach the bottom of the box. Okay, that's a bit strong, but if you're on the Massachusetts North Shore, you really have to try this popcorn
