Hi Suzy! I had one of those relaxing, do-nothing days this week too! It felt sooo good. I had 8 yards of mulch delivered to my driveway a week ago and we moved half of it last weekend, racing to beat the rain on Tuesday. Rainy Wednesday way my day to relax.

We have more rain coming tonight so my son and I were using pitchforks and we were flyin'! I entered 3 hours of gardening to my Spark fitness tracker but they don't have the right calorie burn for "using a pitchfork like a wild woman". So I chose 'shoveling snow' instead. LOL I burned over 2,300+ calories! That's a whole days worth of food! It sure felt good, too.

I haven't posted in a long time, sorry for leaving y'all for awhile. My husband went to the ER thinking he had pneumonia but it turned out to be large, multiple blood clots in both lungs. He's only 50. The docs think he might have cancer, some cancers cause blood clots. The docs said he is too young to have blood clots. The blood thinners are not working, and that's why they think it's cancer.

So using a pitchfork like wild woman was more for my sanity than anything else, I'm thinking.

I'm planting Silver Queen corn, beans, green peppers and lettuce in my garden. I'm using raised beds, so I "might" try carrots, haven't decided on that one though. I'm from Iowa and grew up on a farm with rich black soil... I didn't know how good we had it back there until I moved here. emoticon But raised beds take care of the problem soil.

Have a wonderful weekend ladies!

Yesterday, I decided to give myself a break and DO NOTHING once I got home from work and just relax. I needed it and my energy is back in swinging order today, my day off from work. I tried to soak up some sun with an outdoor walk and after I do some resistance band strength workout here from SP I plan on getting some seeds in the ground for the garden. My husband came home with some spaghetti squash seeds from a friend at work- so I am going to give those a go this planting season and see how it goes. I am really hoping the beans I plant today bring a big harvest and my garden doesn't drown like it did last year's season. emoticon

Pretty happy with my consistency of getting outside for activity either gardening or walking and hoping to see the results for sticking with it. May is when I have a lot of follow up dr. appts with tests for health readings and depending on what comes to pass will help me determine my work schedule path and how stress is truly affecting my life.

How everyone handling the pollen? I sure hope everyone got their taxes done on time with little issues. Okay time to move it along. Take care buds. emoticon

I scrubbed the heck out of the inside of my home last week to help combat the pollen problem. Daniel's sinus are all out of whack and I honestly thought he had a sinus infection. Always at spring break he gets sick due to seasonal allergies and even though we've be pro-active with meds and such its been a HUGE POLLEN dump fest for our area. So I went nuts last week when I got home from work for 2 days straight and even took on steam cleaning the carpets.
I got the garden plot all set with fertilizer, compost, and peat and all tilled in and raked for the plants. Not putting anything in till Easter though due to our crazy weather. I got the plants just don't want to risk anything yet so babying them in the garage for the next few days.
I have been dealing with a lot of stress once again at work with some bullying issues, which I don't play around with. I was tempted to quit but I am NOT a quitter so I am standing my ground, enjoying the company of people I truly like at work and care about, and got a game plan in my mind so if it gets too much I can always throttle back with stepping down from being a coordinator and full time to a part time person and request point blank I only process cash office and process clothing. It would be a big hit to them at work with me doing this but I am concerned for my health. I've been walking more now with the spring and using it to combat stress from work. I will see how my health readings go in May with my doctors. I like my job but its not my life and I only have one right?
Planning on doing more positive things to help combat the negatives surrounding me at the work place. They are writting up our reviews currently since raises are issued in May so we will see. I am also hoping that Daniel stays on track with his work ethic towards school to bring them up. I don't think he was able to make a drastic difference in his grades with the 2 weeks to go but we will see once spring break is over.
Anyone going to check out their local farmer's markets? I have plans to go to Wilmington for the Greek festival with some friend/coworkers so its something to look forward too.

We sure do!! For the next two weeks there will be pine dust everywhere and on everything. I open windows in the spring, so it'll be in the house, too. Not my favorite part of spring, but I do love the rest of it so!!!

Thursdays are so busy! My kids are involved in a few after school sports and by the time I get done running them around there is so little time left for me on Thursdays. I'm trying to make up for it and take a few extra minutes to exercise or plan meals on the other days to make up for the craziness that occurs on Thursdays:)

Nothing like an EEG. My son lays face down on a table and holds a metal handle in each hand. The handles vibrate slightly, at different intervals, and the vibrations can be adjusted up or down. The frequency enters one hand and reroutes a different pathway via the neurons in the brain and then come out the other hand. It's amazing how it works.

There are quite a few frequencies the doc can choose from, depending on what you're trying to change, whether it is behavioral, physical, etc. My son's physical tics stopped, and some of his OCD symptoms disappeared as well. He had this awful compulsion to count his footsteps before he crossed any kind of pattern on the ground/floor, such as cracks in a sidewalk, or the border on our carpet in the living room. After 2 months of FSM his physical tics disappeared, and after 3 months the compulsive thoughts forcing him to count his footsteps stopped.

I will talk to my husband about this kind of treatment. We live in Jacksonville, NC so it sounds like I would want to speak to Dr. Hutcheson to see if he knows of anyone closer who could be recommended for Daniel and this type of therapy. Its not like undergoing an EEG is it? I tried to have Daniel do one of those when he was in 2nd grade and it did not go well, he was too freaked out and the tech. was not a patient person.

Well, I have more energy today- I really need to take one day of doing not much multi-tasking to reset myself at least every other week. Almost caught up with the laundry, used the treadmill since rain showers were still happening this morning, and got the errands run. Its cold and windy out though not the best motivation to go outside for a walk.

No one here has been complaining of tummy aches so I am hoping I can keep that bug out of here for now.

We started taking Ryan to a doctor when he was 4 yrs old. His older sister was diagnosed with Aspergers about the same time Ryan turned 4. He was diagnosed by the doctor, who prescribed meds to help but even with meds it was still hard for him to control the tics.

We found a therapy that removed the tics completely, they've never returned. We have a fabulous chiropractor where we live that does Frequency Specific Micro-current therapy. What it does is re-route the brain's neurotransmitters that are misfiring that causes the tics. It's done by using low frequency, or vibration. It erased Ryan's tics within 2 months, and he had trouble with tics for 5 years. That happened last fall. And since then, we've been using the same therapy to reduce his OCD symptoms. It's actually working!!

If you live near Durham, the doctor's name is Alan Hutcheson at Hutcheson Chiropractic. He is extremely knowledgable about what type of frequencies are needed. He also does laser therapy on me (I have a brain injury) and it's helping me regain my memory.

If you don't live near Durham, you could call Dr. Hutcheson and ask his office how to find someone in your area. I'll write privately and give you my name and phone number, too.

Please can you tell me a bit even in a email sent to me Renae about how you found out your son has Tourettes? Daniel has been having facial tics and other mannerisms since the 2nd grade. I did have him checked by a neurologist and it doesn't interfere with his learning or cause bullying at school. He has been noticing more tics as of lately, and memory laps at school and sometimes at home, which I am thinking can have to do with hormones starting up. I deal with frustrations and anger from him too, sometimes daily but we argue it out of our system and then both apologize and try and find compromises. I am only hoping this method continues on since I know he will not just be a teenager who does not question everything I ask of him... kind of testing the waters yet again.

I'd like to hear from you since Daniel is 13 years old too.

Thank you for posting about your kids, Donna. You gave me encouragement when I needed it most. My son is 13 now, has some mental disabilities (Aspergers, OCD, Tourettes, etc.) and his hormones are doing a number on him on top of all that. Poor guy! I have to remind myself hourly that he's not angry at me, per se, he's more miserable dealing with everything on his plate than I am.

Work frustrations... has things been ironed out at work yet Suzi?

By the way, I forgot to mention... I'm changing my name to my middle name for personal reasons. It's got to do with my next door neighbor and privacy violations... so I'm Renae now. :( Oh well, this too shall pass.

Donna that is crazy about the meds & insurance costs. Do you qualify somehow for getting them free? Daniel is feeling a bit better knowing we will be working together to get him back on track. I let them know at work today that I was changing my availablity and my husband is going to go this time for the teachers conference once I get a date and time.

I was able to find out some more info. at work on who exactly is not a very happy camper when it comes to working with me. I am disappointed and hurt 2 of these people feel better about speaking behind my back instead of directly to me. I will be speaking my peace tomorrow to my store manager since I always feel its better to deal directly with sources instead of the random speech about improving communication. I need to know how and what I said that was taken wrongly to understand and make a compromise. 1 individual though will never be 100% direct & honest with me, she doesn't like me plain and simple and will do what can be done to undermine me. I will still treat her fairly and professionally but I believe we need to speak our mind in front of our boss. I don't like behind the back talk, never have.

So happy to get outside and enjoy the sun, temps and a good long walk to de-stress. Happier now understanding what's going on and having someone have enough respect to speak honestly with me and let me know what the undercurrents have been. The not knowing was eating me up and causing nightmares. My problem is I care too much about the people I work with but I cannot change who I am. Those same people are going to grip about my change of availabilty but Donna, my son comes first before this job and I am going to be pro-active with him and not let him slide through any cracks.

Early bed time again, its helping and I have enough get up and go at 4 AM to do strength or yoga before breakfast this way.

Suzy, I can remember my years with the kids going through the teen years. Oh what some trying times. And I can tell you every child is different, even with 5 kids in our home, there were no 2 alike. Many times I wanted to pull my hair out because it was nearly impossible to get them organized & not procrastinating. Meeting with his teachers is a good way to get a plan going so you understand what is expected. I do hope you can find a way to get him motivated, maybe limit some of his extracurricular activities til he shows effort of bringing his grades back up.
I know what you mean about not feeling into working out after such busy days, that's my struggle as well. I'm up @ 5 every morning, out the door @ 6 & then don't get home til around 530 or 6 & have to squeeze in laundry, cook & eat supper & showers & laundry all before 9.

I had a good day at work, no insanely busy like the past weed has been. DH got home late though, so I fixed chicken & rice & will have some applesauce to go with it. Went to pickup my insulin & needles at pharmacy, but left them. $100 after insurance, just can't do that with the budget,. It's insane, I'm paying $400 more per month for insurance & now can't afford some of my meds. Not a happy girl.

Donna, the meal was GREAT! I too and so READY for sun and spring temps so I can get outside for walks and gardening. The snacks and note I made were a hit and it does help morale and sparks someone else to bring something in "just because" its a good roll over effect.

emoticon opting for the walking dvd despite the weather. I have been using the treadmill in the garage for my cardio due to the weather. I see a big difference in how I handle home frustrations and take home work stress doing some kind of exercise before getting bogged down in meal time, chores, homework, etc....

Right now I am seeking any pro-active parenting advise when it comes to teens who have time management issues. Daniel has gone from a straight A student down to Cs and Ds. I am beyond floored and have asked his teacher where his issues are at to come up with a game plan. I have tried taking a step back approach and letting my husband take over ensuring Daniel is getting his homework done since he's home before me especially if I am running errands then contending with dinner issues, laundry, etc.... Most days I don't seem to have any "down time" or "me" time till after dinner and honestly who wants to work out after a meal and having an early bedtime since my husband's alarm goes off each morning at 3:30 AM?

I've emailed teachers and have been racking my brain today on my day off to come up with a pro active approach to help Daniel and help me keep work stress and family frustrations in check by using exercise as a release. My goal is to do cardio or strength each day I come home right off then worry about meal time. I will also be going into work tomorrow to explain I will be adjusting my work availablity for 2 days out of the week to ensure I can clock out on time and get to the school to pick Daniel up. Those 2 days will give him the option to get extra help afterschool, finish assignments, tests, quizzes, etc.. without worry about missing his bus home. This is one of his biggest issues and I have asked the teachers about them giving him the help needed if I take this approach. No definite commitment on their part which I can understand but it gives him a new choice for help.

Other things are he sorts his school work. Breaks it down by subject and completes the work needed. All work that needs to be handed in on time goes to the front section of each subject. Projects with due dates get done a week in advance during weekends to free up time for tougher areas during the week to catch up with class/homework. Reading 15-30 min. each night. When the weather cooperates me and him are to take a small walk each evening to discuss challenges and issues to come up with a game plan. No more getting caught up with online gaming and skype with friends. He cannot stay on task and I am beyond frustrated.

Plus its already time for him to pick classes and pre-register for high school. Lots happening, lots of frustration, and I think hormones and school dramas are all happening. So as you can image there are days I truly needed to jump on the treadmill or get outside and walk to think things out without further stuff piled on top.

LIvergiver, so ready for some sunshine & spring temps.

Suzy, How was the St Patty's early meal? I think I'm going to fix some cabbabe, potatoes & corned beef for supper. Kenny will be home late all this week, so at least I can get this cooked before he gets home. Great idea to boost morale of the team members, I'm sure it will make an awesome difference.

So ready to see the sunshine, but I guess it's another day of rain, well at least it's not the frozen stuff. Starting out my tired, ok so the norm. I guess my nap yesterday kept me awake most of the night, hopefully tonight will be more restful.
Need to get lots down today at the office but being it's Monday, probably won't happen as we will be dealing with lots of new calls in for claims & car changes --a typical Monday. I'm not much of a St Patty's Patron, but cooking the corned beef, cabbage & potatoes will make for a healthy & hearty meal to finish out the day. WHile it's cooking I can pop in my walking dvd since the weather isn't cooperating with all this rain that keeps on coming.

Donna, sure hoped your "Weinie roast" with the grandkids was a success with minimal mess! I feel a little less intimidated about traveling to Wilmington for those training meetings in the near future. I hope the new store manager is a good caring one in her leadership role so that maybe the attitudes of the co-workers will improve. I know that is what makes a difference at our store. I plan on surprising everyone tomorrow by bringing in snack size bags of cracker jacks and Smart food popcorn with an upbeat "thank you" note to them all. I randomly do these things and it usually sparks another co-worker to do something else along the same lines so we have more of a fun family attitude to each other.

I hope your energy level came back up. Me, I had the weekend off so I took on the cleaning of the house, tackled the mounds of laundry, and still managed to get outside yesterday and de-stress by reading in the sun with the dogs in the backyard. Today, I took on some outdoor flower bed work before the rains hit. Feel like I've really accomplished something this time around on my days off and am less edgy feeling.

We've got the corned beef and veggies cooking for an early St. Patty's day meal. Hoping I can stick to my upbeat attitude as the week progresses.

Suzy, glad your trip was safe & productive. Traveling in & around Wilmington can be daunting sometimes. I see you got a feel for the attitudes I deal with. The people around here used to be so hospitable not so in recent years, it seems the attitudes are more " self centered" & less caring.

Well not feeling as well today, feel like someone ran over me in the middle of the night. Just achy & so tired feeling. Still looking for my zap of energy , thought the omlet with it being high in protein & the coffee would have jump started my energy. I'm thinking someone swiped in the middle of the night. LOL. Dh is getting off a little earlier than normal so he will be rounding up the grandkids before get home. My job is stop & get hogdogs for the roast as well as the bread & maybe some fries, just making it simple for the grandkids.

Donna, I was down in your neck of the woods on Monday, since my boss wanted me to help reorganize and spruce up the store's lounge/breakroom there in Wilmington. The best news is they paid my mileage and travel time on top of my scheduled work day. It was a great opportunity to get away from the store to see how other ones interact both internally and externally. I am most thankful and appreciative of my co-workers more so now. We really do care about each other and have fun, did not see much of that happening in Wilmington. They will be getting a new store manager coming in April so for now either my store manager or Asssistant store manager of merch. has been going down to help relieve the management staff there and help re-organize and focus the staff. I sure hope she is able to bring some lightness and caring back to the staff, since it will make a difference in customer service.
Pretty proud of myself for dealing with my phobia about driving in Wilmington and tackling it. I have been informed I will have to travelt there anyway for some upcoming FOL meetings so I just bit the bullet.

So want to get to my yard/garden but with the yo-yo temps I am throttling back so I don't waste time and money. Hoping for some warmer temps this weekend as I have it off.

Yep I think so too, April 17 will be 15 years for us. Wouldn't trade him for anything. emoticon

What an absolute gorgeous day. I actually got to spend sometime outside, walked around the yard a bit & even got DH's truck cleaned out on the inside, sure needed it.

Yeah my DD was telling me they were getting some new salads & that as the one I was most excited about, (DD is a manager at one of the Wendy's near me).

Have had a good day. DH actually got home before me & had laundry started & picked up pizza & hot wings for supper. Relaxing now til bedtime.

Christine, it's a new week, you can do it one step at a time.

Been working on laundry this weekend. Food choices ok, except we stopped @ Arbys after church, the roast beef sandwich wasn't so bad, but the onion rings bombed the diet. LOL,

Suzy, how's the accountability buddy? She sounds like the stress in her life is over the top! I'm glad you're there to walk with her through the tough stuff.

Today is the last warm day ladies, what are you doing today? I have the windows open and am doing laundry. I ordered the Tracker via Amazon yesterday, it should be interesting! Does anyone else have it?

I blew it on my healthy eating yesterday, emoticon oh well, today is another day Scarlet. The tracking sure helps, doesn't it? I hope to get back to the Y this week, the flu in my house kept me away this past week.

Sooooo.... I was weighing myself today and I've lost 3 lbs. And there's a website where you can fill in the blank with the weight number you've lost and it will tell you what you lost in something other than lbs. Such as: "you lost the weight of a penquin" or "you lost the weight of a Suzuki". So I put my measly little 3 lbs in the blank and this is what I lost....

CHristine, thanks for the tip on the almonds for migraines. I will keep that in mind for the next one, hopefully I won't need the remedy for quite awhile. LOL.

I'm off today, taking a sick day as I have dr's appointment later today. I'm waiting on DD to take a certification exam for work. Hopefully she will be done in time for us to drive back to Wilmington,NC so I can drop her off at work & then get to my appointment. I didn't sleep wel last night, too much on the brain,it just wouldn't shut down for the night.LOL.

Thank you for the welcome ladies! Yes, today is a new day! There must have been something about yesterday... I went slightly over my nutrition goals yesterday too. Not much, so it was easy to forgive myself. :)

I googled yesterday to find alternatives to taking meds to get rid of a migraine. I found something that said eating 10-12 almonds helps to get rid of a migraine, something in the almonds helps reduce inflammation. I've never tried it before, but plan to try it with the next headache that comes along.

Welcome Christine, glad to have you join. Migraines are horrible. I remember seeing the agony Mom was in with hers, now I understand

I took Advil Migrine caplets last night, must have helped relax me too as well as dealing with the pain. I slept most of the night, feel a little more rested with only a minor headache, but that's manageable. I have my snacks packed for the today so no binging on junk food when I get hungry. My focus today is on water consumption & continuing to log my nutrition. I went over yesterday but I know that's because I didn't take snacks & found the unforbidden to snack on ---Chocolate. emoticon Today is a new & better day!

emoticon to our team page CHCHAMB, and sorry you battle migrains like Donna. My boss gets them just as severely and there have been days when I will look at her and demand she calls family to come pick her up. My mom suffered from migrains when I was growing up so I have empathy for those who must muster through them.

I so want to get outside and in the garden and flower bed if anything to turn over soil and add fertliizer. Just learned though rain for Wed. which will be my day off. So, I think I will make a coffee date with a co-worker who's battling with a foreclosure, divorce, and start of depression/stress situation. It will be good for her to get out and have someone to sound off to, heck knows I was there and she did her best to get me to talk. She's wanting to get back into doing her workouts which went by the wayside once she started working full time, like myself so I can relate. Looks like I might have the opportunity to "spark" someone and get an accountablity buddy....hmm....

Hi Ladies, I just joined your group. Just starting out (again) on my weight loss journey. Belle, I get migraines about once a year, the last one was a week ago. It lasted 3 days, not fun.

Anyway, just thought I'd say hey. I'm loving this weather too!

Yes, this weather has been awesome, so much better than those icy days we had a couple of times earlier in the month. I'm ready for spring as it signals new change & new life in everything. Our vacation is going to be the week of Easter so I need to get busy with finding places for us to stay. We will spend a couple of days in WV so we can visit with our son's family & then a couple of days in the NC mountains before returning home. Can't wait!

Got hit with a migraine Saturday night, it's just doesn't want to take a hike. Been taking motrin all weekend for relief, but doesn't seem to help. The headache is a littte better this morning, but still reminding me that it's hanging around. Trying to make this a great day nonetheless. Breakfast was one of the Special K Nourish bowls of Quinoa with fruit & nuts, it's a good old standby when I've not had time to cook myself an omlet.
Wishing everyone a positively great day!

Suzy, you rock!!!! Way to go on being awarded Associate of the quarter , woohoo $100 giftcard is awesome. Hope you enjoyed your afternoon off, it was such a pretty day, much different than last week this time. LOL.

I'm exhausted already, and my day's hardly begun. My DH joked & said he was going to write a scary movie & let me & my DD being the lead players, "The Morning of the Walking Dead". He said we looked like zombies as we both are exhausted this morning, I guess no sleep for last 3 nights has that effect on me. LOL. He's so funny, he always wakes up so chipper, he's the sleeper for sure.

SO happy to see the sun today emoticon Better news is I had work only a short day and got off at 1 PM so I had time to FINALLY call and get our time share reservations done for an actual summer vacation this year emoticon Plus I have accumulated time on the books so it will be a paid vacation- better. We didn't even use all our points so hopefully I can stay on top better this year and get our 2015 summer vacation planned come June 2014. I even stayed pro-active and got my annual pap and mammogram scheduled before our vacation plans so I can stay on track and within our health insurance time range during not our peak retail times.

I actually was able to let the dogs go outside to play a few times in the backyard, walk them with my husband, and as the sun was setting did my own cardio walk- its been way TOO LONG.

Great news at work- I got awarded the Associate of the Quarter earning myself a front of our parking lot space and a $100 gift card. Waiting to see if my District manager makes me a certificate and sends my pin. I've earned this title/award in the past 2 years and somehow I never receive the certificate or pin, so it would be nice to add to my work papers I keep at home.

I am utilizing our crock pot and have good meal plans to keep to eating healthy and limiting how much time at night it takes to get the meals together.

Hope I sleep good tonight since I got some good fresh air. emoticon

Hi ladies, exercise is a challenge I also deal with, just finding the time to fit it in is my biggest challenge.
Didn't sleep well & joints are yelling at me once again, must be another cold front heading our way, sure hope it doesn't bring any of the frozen mix, I'm ready for some warm weather for sure.

emoticon LIVERGIVER in finding a great way to exercise and see the sights! Happy with myself in getting some cardio in during the evening after dinner & getting my son to deal with his homework. I need to stop putting my exercise after work at the bottom of the list since I sleep so much better when I exercise during the day. Learning to do strength exercises in the morning in the kitchen with the puppy if I cannot get to doing a yoga dvd. It helps starting the day with a positive action before breakfast.

This has been my worst exercise week in well over 6 months! First busy, and then snow. Today I am in Chattanooga with my DS and DD, and we walked along the river for 10 miles. I feel much better. It was in the 50's and sunny.

Specialgurl7, hope you stay warm. Hasn't this been one cold & snowy winter?

We didn't get any snow but lots of ice & freezing rain We lost power Wednesday @ 2pm & aren't expecting it back til around 1145 pm on Saturday. We have been living in our den where the fireplace is just trying to stay warm enough not to turn into popsicles, it's actually warmer outside today than in our house. The sun is shining finally, such a welcomed sight. Now that the ice is finally gone, our next step is cleaning up the disaster zone in our yard. We lost our only fruit tree, it's the same one that was damaged by the hurricane of 2011 but we managed to save it. It's not salvable this time. I will be posting a blog of pics later. Unfortunately, the forecast is calling for more snow tomorrow. NOOO, please say it ain't so.

Suzy, glad you made it safely home. Now you can enjoy some fun time with your son during the snow vacation. The roads are so slick to be on, just blows my mind what companies expect their employees to drive in these conditions. Wilmington has had several multi car accidents since yesterday afternoon, not to mention lots of single car accidents. Our boss wasn't even going to let us off early yesterday even though it was icy, she said it weren't that bad. Really??? One of my coworkers lives in an area that has 6 inches of snow, not to mention all the ice & sleet. I've decided to stay home today, it's not worth getting into an accident on the way since I have so far to drive on the ice. Planning on catching up laundry & working on our taxes to get those ready to drop off to the accountant. Also need to call & cancel our vacation reservation, we were supposed to leave for WV Friday & come back Monday but it's supposed to be snowing all those days except Friday, besides the 4WD on Kenny's drive isn't working properly.

Hope everyone has power and is safe and warm. I had to go to work yesterday morning and it was snowing here at 3 AM and did not stop until about 9 PM, so 7 inches of snow outside my door! Daniel is happy with 2 more snow days, even if they have to make it up somehow. The roads weren't bad when I headed into work but by noon time when I left it was getting bad. It was strange seeing how it changed from rain, to sleet ,to snow- almost white out conditions as I headed home in my 10-15 min. drive. Big differences and I saw a car flipped over in a ditch just 500 ft. up from my turn off road. Lots of cars pulled over to help, so I got on my cell to call in help and my work to tell then to let those who live by my area or further out to GO HOME. I had lots of my co-worker waiting for me to call in since I don't play around with road conditions and will be very demanding to management on safety and concern for those I work with. Management might not like me so much but my co-workers do and I enjoy seeing them when I go into work, I sure don't want any accidents happening.

Scott is locked down at work but may be able to come home tonight, so we will see. I don't believe the sleet has hit here yet. Just happy I wasn't scheduled to work today, since it isn't happening even if the store opens.

Yes it was a lovely day, but unfortunately I was either in the truck riding or sitting in church. Only had about 2 hours at home in between & had to get the housecleaning & laundry done. Tomorrow I'm going to start compiling our tax paperwork for the accountant in the evenings. Would like to be able to have it ready for the accountant before we leave for WV on the 14th.

Popping in as I'm heading home from church, planning to watch a bit of the Superbowl, probably not all of it as bedtime is soon upon us. Our 5am rising will come much too soon. Why must the weekends zoom by so quickly. LOL.

Nope, its not Deb & Ernie (who are in Texas), but my longest time friend since I was about 10 yrs. old, Sue Lloyd Tufts. I actually got her set up with her husband, Boone who is my husband's childhood long time friend. My husband got the battery matter all fixed for me and said I was overdue for a new one anyways. As for the windshield he's already contacted the garage and window guy to get set up. I am thankful that's all that happened.

Enjoying today with the sun and warm temps. Lots of outdoor times for me and the dogs with running around play time in the backyard and then walks along our road. Getting ready to head out for my own last walk of the day before considering dinner plans for us. Wondering how the school system is going to have the kids make up the snow days.

Heading out- hope you made it outdoors today too. emoticon

Suzy, oh my this storm as been a pricy one for yours & Dh's cars. Glad nothing more serious with the Honda. This friend that's renewing her vows, is that Deb? I was wondering how she was doing.

It's been a busy day, been on my feet a lot so the knee is feeling pretty inflamed, squatting to get clothes out of the dryer is a killer to the knee. Better remember to take some ibuprofen, hopefully that will help me rest as well. Kenny & I went to the wildlife preservation, hoping to take pics of wildlife, guess they were all in hiding. LOL
For supper he cooked everything on the grill ---steaks, squash & zucchini with onions & red potatoes with onions. Yum. Outback eat your heart out!

Donna, when the cold weather hits here the bottom of my feet shoot sharp pains straight up to my back- not happy about it but still keep moving along.

Yesterday, I went to work. Unfortunately I killed the battery in my car defrosting it the 1st day when all the doors were frozen shut with ice. I think I tried the handles and my DH thinks I popped it out of lock mode so when the ice melted the door was left ajar running down the battery. Of course, I had not cleared any of my husband's cars so I had to do that and give him a call letting him know what had happened to mine. I took his Honda and don't you know I had ice/snow come slamming off another car/truck onto the hood of the car and hit the windshield causing a full break/shatter mark from the top to bottom on the drivers side! I kept my cool and made it to work, but called my husband to let him know the state of his car. I was 2 full car lengths behind but I had 4 wheel drive vehicles whizzing by me on the side lanes even though I stuck to 20s and kept to the slush marks. CRAZY.

Husband got me a new battery today and am thankful I have the weekend off. Due to the warm temps outside and the snow melting in the backyard I've had 3 play sessions with the dogs. I have to keep Rowdie (the puppy) on a leash and we chase Bruin (the akita) around the backyard and they play keep away and stuff. He's not so afraid to go outside now and Bruin is getting his old spirit back.

Finally starting to think about summer plans for the family and in the planning stage to go for a surprise weekend up north in Aug. My best friend and her husband (my husband's best friend) are renewing their wedding vows and her younger sister asked if I could make it as a big surprise. I let them know at work I would be flying out that weekend. Daniel isnt' thrilled since it should be around the time he starts high school emoticon But, I so want to do this and need to. The hardest thing for me will be not calling and letting it slip out to my friend. Its been over 7 years since I was back up north. I will be letting my brother know to see if I can possibly crash with them for the days I arrive and leave.

Now I got a good goal to stay in shape so I can be at my best for the surprise. I am loving being back in my old job position and still having the opportunity to help the crew in the back take in the truck without the added responsibiltiies. Had to say goodbye to a long time co-worker since her husband got orders out to Pendleton. Its already strange without her there. emoticon She gave her cell # though and know I will be popping up on her radar just to chat and say "Minion" since we are both big fans of those cute little guys. It has always helped me when we are stressed out at work to say Minion over our walkies to her and start laughing. I am slowly getting others to use it as a key word to destress.

Suzy, that was smart on your part to insist that the store not open. It's just not safe to have employees not to mention customers out driving to the store.

Today I was supposed to go back to work but after seeing all the wrecks & still very icy conditions on the roads I told my boss I weren't attempting the drive,.I'm not familiar with driving on ice since we don't typically get much snow or ice here, not worth risking my life & everyone else's on the road. The office paperwork can wait one more day. My DH did go to work, but it sure took a while, he has to drive about 45 minutes just to get to the interstate, that normal 45 minutes was 2 hours but once he got to the interstate it was much easier commuting up to Raleigh.
My knee is YELLING at me today. I really don't know what I could have done to it unless it's just because of our extreme cold temps. Even the house is not as warm as I would like it. My feet are so cold they actually hurt. I'm thinking a move to Hawaii might not be a bad option. LOL.

DM wanted us to open today, and my store manager was seeing who would attempt to go in. I went out and looked at my road and walked up to the one I would connect onto to get to work and its nothing but a sheet of ice! I am tempted to dig out my old ice skates I brought with me from MA during our move down here to try and skate it. I called my hubby and he said we've got a 20% chance of rain today coming in this afternoon which will turn everything to ice tonight. The roads on base are complete ice too. I called my boss and gave her the news and begged her to call the DM and tell her what I said to have her reconsider us opening up. I told her I would not attempt the road, since we do NOT sell anything I consider essential and the risk was not the paycheck. She agreed. I don't want to leave Daniel alone since most likely my husband won't be home tonight either.

If you had to go out I hope you made it safely. I am only planning on walking the dogs around the backyard, no roads. I also am popping in dvds to do for exercise.

Suzy, I'm glad your DM finally made the decision to close the store, it's just too treacherous to have people out driving. Stay warm & safe.

My boss made the decision to send us all home yesterday @ 10 am, we are off today, not sure about tomorrow. THe main issue is all of us live outside of Wilmington & have to cross the Cape Fear bridge that has the steel grates --those are slippery in rainy weather, can' t imagine when it's frigid weather. Of course DD will have to go to work tomorrow, so that means I have to venture out @6 even if I'm off.

I had a good night's sleep. Of course DH didn't --he was fearful we would lose power, which meant we would also lose heat. Our unit has been running nearly nonstop & just can't get the house as warm as would like. My poor toes are like ice cubes even with my thick fuzzy socks on. He also had to text a picture of the snow we got to his boss to they would allow him the day off. LOL. Funny thing is his boss in 1 hour further inland than we are & got twice the amount of snow. LOL.

House cleaning done yesterday, finished the laundry this morning. Just taking a day to relax & catch up on spark. As bad as my knee hurts (it's not liking the cold) I'm not about to venture out in the snow. LOL. I made some homemade chili for supper last night, guess we will have a bowl for lunch as well.

Donna, I did laundry last night too! Plan on cleaning the house since I actually have today off from work as an SNOW day. Yesterday, I kept pleading with my store manager to send everyone home when I saw it turning to sleet. We were at the mercy of our DM to give us the okay. I stayed till 2:30 pm and called when I got home and told my boss to call the DM and send everyone home since the roads were slippery on the outer roads from the city. Finally got the call this morning at 6:30 am reporting not to go in to work,we weren't opening. I thought it was a no brainer since Jacksonville /Onslow county is in a state of emergency as reported by my husband who is locked down on Camp Lejeuene. We most likely won't see him until after Friday since he's responsible for steam generation for the entire MCB.

I had Daniel , Bruin the akita, Rowdie the puppy and me all in the same big bed in case we lost power. I understand about the joints hurting = the very bottom of my feet are having stabbing pain especially the one foot where I broke the outer bone in my 20s. I still am going outside later with Daniel and the dogs for a photo opt and to experience something from my past up in Massachusetts.

Stay warm, do some strength moves indoors, maybe some indoor cardio, and hoping to stick to eating healthy choices. Don't go out on the road unless absolutely necessary.

Everyone stay warm & safe in this winter storm that is affecting so many different areas.
After dropping DD off to work, I went to have my labs drawn & then headed to the office. Due to the impending ice & snow, my boss decided to close the office because all of the staff have to cross the bridge & travel 20-45 miles home. I was thankful for this decision. So I came home & got the house cleaned & all laundry done, just in case we lose power. We have been getting sleet all day, the snow is supposed to start during the night & go through tomorrow afternoon, we are supposed to get about 3-6 inches of snow on top of the sleet & freezing rain. Since we aren't getting above the mid 20s tomorrow, Thursday morning the roads will still be treacherous, especially in this area as we don't typically get this kind of extreme winter so many of us don't now how to drive in it.

My joints have reminded me once again that they do not like these extreme temps. I definitely couldn't live in the northern states. LOL.

Great job Tommy and Donna!

I am back after a 12 day hiatus while I was sick with strep and getting my son ready for a major trip to South Africa. He left on Tuesday and is settling in, I am feeling better, although I have had kids home all week with fevers and coughs.

I love a new day to try try again!

Outstanding TommieLeigh, keep up the good work!

Stopped for lunch before heading home. Choosing something healthy @ a Mexican restaurant can be a challenge. I'm happy with the choice I made, only 7 chips with Salsa. Then I had what they call Camerones San Jose which was 8 grilled shrimp with steamed broccoli, carrots & cauliflower, Jasmine rice & Salad mix with sour cream drizzled. I put it in my SP tracker & it's a meal under 600 calories, not bad for a meal at a restaurant.
Heading home to clean the house, work on laundry & do my coupon clipping. Taking a relaxing afternoon to get ready for the busy week ahead.

What a beautiful day, so nice to have temps near 60 & the gorgeous sunshine to brighten the day.

Great morning at church & nice lunch with DH & DD & DGS. Not the healthiest option, it was a small diner with fried foods & veggies. I limited myself on the bread since I had the mashed potatoes, but at least I had a serving of collards to go with the chicken. Now heading home to do some laundry before heading back to church for evening services.

It sure is a beautiful day today. I was too busy to get out walking a couple of days last week, and won't be able to get away tomorrow, so it was nice to get a long one in today!

Good Morning North Carolina! As much as I love the rain, it is sooo nice to have the sun shining this morning. I didn't log in yesterday, but I did eat fairly well. Instead of playing catch-up, I decided last night to just enjoy the day without the stress of logging food and such. Today, I am ready to log my meals and get ready for the busy week ahead.

I found that just getting back on sparkpeople and the little bit I did to eat better, move more, and drink more water really did help my energy levels mentally and physically. I had been moving like a slug before.

Have a great day!

Suzy, sounds like you are getting settled into your new role, you make an awesome leader. It takes a special person like you to lead your crew but yet show compassion & caring as you do. I think I missed something, but who is Bruin?

I'm trying to get us on track to consistent healthy eating. Too much of the time Kenny wants to stop & grab a quick bite, and it's rarely at a healthy place. I'm trying to get us back to eating at home more & less of eating out.

Slept well most of the night but then woke up sweating, one of those stupid hot flashes. Never could go back to sleep after that. Heading to church now, for lunch we are going to take SD & her family out for her birthday as they will be visiting our church today. She turns 24 today, I can remember her as a 2 yr with those cute brown locks of curls, now she's all grown up with a 2 year of her own.

Sounds like you and Kenny are doing good with creating healthy meals and learning how to kick back and relax- wonderful news. I start this morning back as Admin. and got my clearances added back in last night. I am looking forward to getting back in there, straightening things out and giving back some order. Plus I really do look out for my fellow employees when I am in this role and they now know just how much I do for them after having this other person in that role. I've got a dinner date at Marrakesh here in Jacsksonville. A bunch of us coordinators chipped in $ for making a going away basket and $ for a get together meal for Nathalie R. who will be leaving us at the end of the month to move to California. She's been with the company for over 5 years and we wanted to make sure we gave her a good send off since we cannot always rely on management to remember to show appreciation for that dedication. I am looking forward to the get together since starting this week they will be missing me during the trucks as I try to de-tangle the mess up front. I've been warned so I don't freak out- so a new challenge ahead.

The dogs are keeping me on track during the weekends with waking up on schedule (Puppy) and Bruin is keeping me active with our outdoor walks. Okay, got to jump in the shower and prepare for the fun ahead.

Suzy, I thank the move to Admin Coord would be an awesome fit for you as you use your many organizational talents. What a great asset you will be I'm sure.
I'm glad to see you back here in the chat room, have sure missed you & your motivation.

I have had a nice afternoon at home, got all the house cleaning done, working on laundry now, does it ever go away, don't thank so. LOL. We had supper at home, I made us baked potatoes & a garden salad to go with the steaks DH grilled. Very tasty & no traffic woes to deal with. Now relaxing & watching PBS with DH.

Thanks ILOVEMY8, it was going to be an adjustment no matter what with the loss of Nitro, Puppy is giving us new light in the home as we adjust.
Today will be my last day in the role as Backroom Coordinator and we've got no delivery coming which I am thankful for. My goal is got ensure its clean and all merchandise is on the floor to give the next person in this role a clean slate come Monday's delivery.

I am being moved back up into my old role as the Administrative Coordinator and I know and have heard how much my organization has been missed in this role. Its not as physical a job as the BRC role but I am hoping to find a way to do my Admin. role and still be a part of the team taking the trucks in on delivery days since I've gotten a pattern down in there with my team and I know my help would be valued. I think I will be talking with the other coordinators so we can all meet up with management and give them our game plan to see if it can be a "GO".

I did manage to walk Bruin for his 1 1/2 miles this morning and then made Puppy put on his harness and leash to walk around our front and side yard. He gets stalked by our 3 cats outside and I am ever vigilant in keeping him safe and setting boundaries as they learn to adapt. He is shaking each time by the end but I think its sensory overload and I make sure to have him sit in my lap and cuddle to calm down. Tomorrow will be bath day for him, should be interesting since he wasn't too thrilled discovering puddles today.

Okay, got to pack my healthy dinner and still eat lunch before I head out for work today. Hope you all stay dry and find ways to get outside in between drops to enjoy the warmer temps compared to earlier this week.
See Ya- Suzy

Suzy,
I totally know what it is like to get into survival mode for various reasons. I'm glad puppy is leading you out, and back into the sunshine. Every little bit and every good decision helps.

Good Luck!

emoticon Believe it or not I am finally trying to get myself back on track with chatting with my SP community. Its been an extremely rough few months and I've been surviving basically to keep sane. Dealing with our Nitro's cancer and the decision to put him down on Christmas Eve just about had me sitting at the bottom of the void not wanting to stand up and climb on back out to the sunshine. I was either sleeping on the floor or on the sofa next to him to help with his possible pain and accidents as the cancer rapidly progressed and his energy depleted. Daniel, wanted to wait till after Christmas and hid in his room to not see the rapid decline but I saw it every day and it tore me to pieces. I mentally lost it at work and after taking in a big delivery with little staff who kept getting called away I broke down in tears, clocked out and just sat in our break room for over 1 hour sobbing. It was all too much and I was mentally, emotionally, and physically exhausted and knew going home would be worst. I couldn't talk to any of my concerned co-workers, I was terrified to drive home until I got it together and I had to pep talk myself to use the last of my reserves to go home and face all the strain. I was a MESS. I totally shut down on my communication with everyone except the dogs.

Daniel was in worst shape than me once we had to put Nitro down on Christmas Eve. I've been doing what I can to get him to talk and learn to cope. He scared me beyond words when he came and asked me to put him on anti-depressants. I refuse for him to hide from life with aids like that without trying to talk and express openly what's going on. On New Year's day he begged me to put him on drugs or get him outside of our home which is too quiet and agreed to go to some pet stores.

I believe something happened that day: I prayed for help and a way to help guide us out of the darkness our entire family had been encompassed with. What we found was a small Boston terrier male puppy in a store who had us in tears. We patiently waited to get in a room just to play with him and give him a break from the pet store pens. His personality had me openly crying as he crawled right up into my son's lap and made himself completely comfortable. I just enquired into his papers and price so we'd know and could discuss it. I knew it was most likely too early but honestly I was desparate and terrified that my son would go looking for drugs and escape on his own if I didn't get him to a doctor. He's now a teenager learning how to deal with hormones and life this was a huge hit. I know the best way to fill a void like that is with love no matter how hard it is. This little guy just called out to me.

I ended up buying this puppy, who is still currently called "PUPPY". This is what my son wants him called at the moment and I understand its to distance himself though every day the little guy is working his way into his heart and daily life. My son was fearful he was a replacement to Nitro. He's NOT, he is an addition to a family who is unique in his own way. He does things totally not like Nitro and has brought some laughter into our lives. He sleeps on our laps, distracts us as we teach him basic things, and is slowly being accepted by my son and our older Akita.

I have found some light to help guide us and help reunite us as a family that honestly was starting to drift apart. So, I am back in Mommy mode as I try to train the PUPPY but am doing what I can to eat right and exercise. Bruin, needs mom time too so I am trying to stay commited to walking him daily at least 1 mile for alone time.

Way to go on getting back on the wagon with consistency! You are on the right track.

Struggling to find my MOJO this morning, still fighting with the sore throat, now the headache & earache is worst this morning. Just trying to use comfort measures, but am so done with this cold that Santa brought me.
I brought some soup for lunch, have my freggies & yogurt for snacks, supper with me a grilled salmon garden salad. Today my focus is on freggies, trying to up those to 5-6 daily.

Have a great day

Day 3 for me getting back on track/on the wagon/the horse or any other cliche you could use : )

Feeling great just to be trying again!

I'm hoping the "polarvortex" has killed the bugs and I'm glad it will warm up again. Heading out to drop off last child at school (delayed schedule) and walk, either at the mall or the neighborhood. I guess the mall, because I feel naked walking without my dog and I'm afraid it is too cold for his paws this morning.

Have a great day today!

It's a warm start to the day, woke up to 65 degrees, but the high forecasted is 61. Temps dipping to 19 tonight, brrr what a difference. Not much going on here for us, that's not a bad thing so happy to see things slowing down somewhat. Slow is good!

I hear your pain - I am a public school teacher, and I often have to remind myself that I can do what I can do and it will be enough.
