Thanks , I do all of this and they still die on me. I think I must have a "brown thumb" Roses seem to be my forte.....they always grow. I end up buying seedlings of most things except carrots - those we sow in shallow drills but they never seem to grow properly for us.

I like things that are easy to get to come up. I plant carrots, beans, beets, leaf veggies (collars/kale). I try to make sure they are watered very well and the pots have drainage. I grow plants from seeds that I directly sow in the pots or ground. Does anyone else have any suggestions- what do you do?

I got some Savor, Charentaise-type melons, from Burgess. There are about 8 seeds. From online reviews, I think the Charentaise melons have to be perfectly ripened.
Planting time is so hopeful -- everything could sprout, I could be on it this year and do it all on time, etc. Here's to seed success!

I will put all kinds of seeds in my seed starter today. They will sit by my sliding glass door to start because my hot house will not even go up till the first of April, just too cold. I don't need electric because with the sun it gets 120 or more so I have to cover the top with a tarp. Good planting.

I want to start tomato and pepper seeds next week in the greenhouse ... but I don't have electrical out there yet so I guess the inside window sill will do for a few so they can sit on a heat mat. The good news is everything that can be planted this month is! And that is a big list in Calif!!

My tomato and pepper seeds are up, but the house is cold, and I put them by a window but they don't have true leaves yet. My green beans are getting true leaves, but are leggy.
I think I will put the tomato and peppers into one large pot, put a grow-bulb on the pot, and the infra-red heater, and go from there. I have a huge pot available, with fresh, pre-fertilized pot soil--it says it is organic fertilizer, but does not tell the ingredients, so it might be using the chemist's definition of organic! A huge pot can cause root problems, so maybe I'll use a bunch of smaller pots and put several plants in each, as I did last year.
The peppers don't like their roots crowded, though--they might need smaller, individual pots so their roots won't touch each -other.
Congratulations, UR2LoveIt. I'm a bit envious of your accomplishment: getting the plan done early is a big piece of success.
Does anyone have seeds for a French Charentais melon? These have lots of anti-oxidants, though the other melons, do also. I think I will try growing some, though I love Bountiful Gardens' Northern Arizona melon--bred for greenhouse culture, large, and flavorful. I grew these, on a fence, in a cooler-Summer state. Since I've moved back to the South, I have not grown these, since they like cooler temps. This year, I plan to have a plastic-glazed area for them, though, early in Spring. The melons I grew on the fence did better when the fruits were placed into petroleum-based fabric slings. The last part of the harvest did not get put into slings, though, and they just fell off as they got about ripe. They were not dead-ripe, but very nice.
I did it [YIPPEE] I figured out where I am planting each variety of veggie that I have!! Ok, yes, I have to take out a small plot of grass that I have been to lazy to remove till this year, and I need to rototill a small area of weeds in the back to support my new potato bed. But all Good!!

Would anyone be interested in sharing vegetable seeds? I have a good amount of dill seeds, and sunflower seeds that I would be happy to share.

Shar That sounds great. I have deep purple, two tone purple, white, yellow, deep burnt orange, bronze, and blue iris. I have some day lilies, the common orange ones, a tiger lily, and a deep red orange star gazer. Do you have Japanese Iris? The small ones?

Hey Mosier I am a BIG iris fan! I only have 40 - 50 different ones. If you want to trade any of those I would be in to that. I also have lots of different day lilies if you're interested.

I thought this might be a good place to discuss seeds and maybe have a seed swap. I garden iris' and have rhizomes a plenty if any one is interested. I would gladly swap for sunflower seeds.
