Oh, that is so perfect!
Last night at work I ruptured my Achilles tendon, off my feet (or at least the left) for now. Abs it is!

I may not be there yet but I'm closer than I was yesterday.

any kind of forward punch, preferably a straight bunch, with any kind of fist you prefer and is appropriate for your style

do a minimum of 100 per day with form, speed and most importantly power

HI All,

Well a personal victory to share first.

I've dropped 22 lbs, and then conciously held my weight at a certain weight for 3 weeks. This is with a doc (nutrition doc) helping out. Being able to maintain weight with my super-busy travel schedule is key. (Traveled 88 flight segments last year, about 30k miles of driving, and probably 10 long distance train trips including one cross country train trip to avoid flying during hurricane Sandy).

I'm a yo-yo like many folks, though I seem to be getting better and better at weight maint. and control.

So, with that in mind, lets do 100 front kicks per day this week. Whatever kick is appropriate for your style and training. Low, at the belt, or high, whatever works for you.

Hi All,

Kicks area a great idea Kaiya.

To build more strength for them, lets do simple squats this week. I.e. just bend knees, squat down and come back up. 100 over the course of the entire day is the goal.

HI All

here is one we haven't done in a while

100 pushups per day as your level permits

1) against a wall with as much incline as you can manage (also good if no clean floor to work on)
2) on knees
3) plank style
4) on one foot (other ankle resting on weight bearing foot)
5) on knuckles
6) on hands again but one hand
7) best I've ever seen (in a photograph (in the 50's so no photoshop)) 1 finger and 1 toe ;)

100 kicks with form and power appropriate to your form each day?
If your style is below the belt, but you can handle the stretch, try kicking chest high. The point this week is not so much the kick as the below.


Why kicks, because when you are fighting that growth of a spare tire on your belly, nothing reminds you of it quite like a moderately high kick.

I promoted! My first promotion since 2004, 9 days before my initial spine injury and I was told then that I'd never train in Martial Arts again. It feels so good to prove that one wrong!

I like to break it up through the day. 100 of any exercise in one spell will wear me out but 20 to 30 now and again in a few hours and then again early evening...I don't feel tired or sore but since I started doing the challenge, all my basics have improved enormously, as well as stamina and my abilities to move in general.

it is per day, and if you could add it to your 'goals' section of the site, it then gets tracked as a team member getting it done when 100 are done and you log it.

Then we as a team see the whole progress :)

I vary the exercise each week, but I try to stick to 100 per day to keep it easy to remember.

Doing them in sets broken up through the day is just fine if 100 all at once doesn't work for whatever reason.

I'm working on regaining my balance and core strength, and back kicks are just the thing I need the most.
My belt fits a bit better, I think all the crunches helped trim an inch or two from my waist and with a belt test this Saturday, I want to do my absolute best.

HI Everyone

I hope everyone doing the daily challenge for the week enjoyed the crunches.

We've not done kicks in a very long time.

So 100 kicks of any type appropriate to your style with power, but not so much your form goes out.

If your back is out or the kick is not going to work, do a very slow (as your body will allow) stretching kick to stretch out your back and hams.

As you know, I re-inured my back October 29th. In part because I don't sit around, held in grief by 'I can'ts' in part because I've been training regularly, it took me just over 3 weeks to get back to normal routines and training. Last time it was 1 1/2 years.
I'm incredibly thankful for support I've gotten from other Martial Artists, they've helped me jump back faster than ever before!

HI All

a Day late. Stuck in a train trying to get home for last three days from Frankenstorm.

Almost made it, got a far as Albany, then no way in to the coast in New England. Rats

In a hotel now.

Let's go for pushups this week.

100 (in sets if not all at once) according to your level.

from knee pushups/wall pushups ... up to the best I've seen (in a photograph) which was one finger and one toe. The dude was 54 years old too!

HI All

sorry I forgot to update last weekend.

(Though my "one who has gone before" when I was young said that core training every day will not hurt the body and should be a basic staple of martial arts training.)

We've done core for two weeks now.

So, let's switch over to some lunges. Almost all styles have some type of lunch (a common one is going from a tall stance into a horse stance or deep knee stance).

Each day please

Warm up your knees however you do that

then do 10, 20, or 50 lunge moves as you can for your training level each day.

Still working core. My Sensei has mentioned a couple times how much better I'm moving. My strikes and balance are improving by huge leaps and it's been noticed emoticon

I could almost believe you were in my class today! For warm ups we did push ups in sets growing by 5. Start with 5, then 20 crunches, 10 push ups, 20 bicycles, 15 push ups, 20 bur-pees, 20 push ups......up to 30 and I was hurting! Decided I was going to be really working upper body and core in the coming weeks/months.

HI Guys,

For this week, it's been a while since we've done pushups. Do 100 per day in whatever form you can do 100. Wall pushups are OK, but do more than 100 if you can, for those that travel (like me) sometimes getting down on an unknown floor just doesn't work.

HI All,

wow the week went quickly!!!!

Hope those crunches last week were fun!

We haven't done much with good old fashioned pushups.

So, here are your choices.

Hold Plank for 1 minute
OR
25 Pushups (at your level)
variants range from one finger and one toe (I've seen a picture though not in real life)
down to on the knees, but whatever it takes do 25
OR
50 Wall pushups (I use these sometimes if I'm traveling and the floor is gross)

Let's go back to crunches for this week (7/15). Ab work almost never hurts. Please do 100 crunches each day, and log the fact that you did it by making it a 'team goal' in your 'other goals' planner.

Please keep in mind, you don't have to do them all at once if you can't do 100 at once. Doing 4 sets of 25 is fine for instance.

HI All,

A new weekly challenge is being rolled out as a team goal.

You are still welcome to post here any time you do the challenge (too spur us all one as well as get sparkpoints).

Each week over the weekend I or another team leader will post the challenge. It is will likely bit crunches for each day, pushups for each day, punches for each day, kata sets for a day, or something that will be done for an entire week. This replaces the daily challenge so that people don't have to look every day, and the team leaders don't have to post challenge every day.
