I started working on enduance first. Now I am trying to work on speed since I can actually breathe running.

when life is closing in on you just think that every room with four walls has a door and your mind is the key.

I think it depends on what your goal is for the hm. Do you want to finish the whole thing running, or do you want to finish faster? If your goal is to run it all, don't worry about speed...do the c25k training first. If you want to finish faster, you could try using Jeff Galloway's method of run/walk intervals.

I just read a book on running and it said you should pick whether you want to work on speed or distance. Not both at the same time. Pick which one is most important to you. I too am a newbie and just posting what I recently read. I worked till I was finally able to run a 5K without walking. I now want to work on my speed. I've been studying how to do that. One way was fartleks. I started working on those yesterday. I'd love to see what kind of answers you get as I too want to improve.

I just finished my first half marathon. I ran/walked it and finished in 3:40. Not very good. However I would like to keep my training up, and do another one, and get faster and faster. So I started the C25K program in December to start running more, walking less. But I would like to re-start my half marathon training in January. Should I hold off on the half-marathon training (long runs/walks) until I finish the C25K and can actually run without having to stop and walk? I am thinking this is the thing to do, since I would like to be able to run longer and longer. Throwing me off my schedule, though, so not liking it. Any help for a newbie is appreciated!
