stared week 8 today. Run was good except that I slept in. I hate that. There is too much activity outside for me at 7:00. I prefer 6:00.

I love that idea of the imaginary friend. I keep telling myself mentally to slow down and that I am not competing with anybody and It works sometime. I think that I'll try the imaginary friend next time emoticon

I did Week 8 Day 2 today. I really can't believe that I'm this close to the end of the program. I had a little imaginary race going in my head today - I kept picturing myself passing the other person as we approached the finish line. Hee!

I finally got to start W8 today. It was a tough run, because I'm still a little sick, but I'm glad I did it. I really didn't want to get any more off schedule. Only 5 more runs until graduation!

So, my W8D1 run was hard today. I did the jump rope and jump start videos yesterday so my calves were sore this morning. From the beginning of the run I was stiff and sore. I did my best to stretch before I started my run but it only helped marginally. It didn't help that the music on the radio sucked! It's hard to keep going when I don't have very good music that keeps me pumped. I pushed through it though. I knew that I could do it and I was determined! So, YAY!

I completely agree that it's totally mental. I'm having a hard time psyching myself out for outside runs (alone)....I actually have "Runner's Spray" (mini-pepper spray) that hubby bought me...but I haven't been able to do it--I think I'll just have to suck it up! :)

CONGRATS on your 28 minutes!!

You know, running is such a mental sport. And I've been learning more and more how much I seem to undermine myself.

Since my last "failed" run, I haven't been able to complete a 28 min run. I tried 2 times and gave up halfway through. Last night was the last attempt and I broke down and cried for 10 min afterwards because is just seemed like such a BIG thing to do.

Yeah, I know it's all in my head.

So this morning I planned to do my 28 min run. I imagined it. I prepared for it (drank lots of water) and told myself I would be completing it.

And I did complete it.

Hopefully that takes care of THAT mental block. Am looking forward to my next run on Monday so I can beat that dead horse again. And one more time on Wednesday.

Wish me luck.

OK, so they say confession is good for the soulÖ so Iím going to confess. I got on the treadmill tonight with every intent of doing my W8D1 run. I didnít complete it.

Right away I knew something was different. It was harder than normal. At first I thought I hadnít drank enough waterÖ I kept running though.

About 10-12 minutes into my run, the area around my shins started to hurt and my feet were getting really heavy. It was weirdÖ I dropped my speed significantly and it didnít help.

At around the 18 minute mark I started to falter and I slowed my run to a walk. I was gulping air and totally mad with myself for not completing my run.

I went to write down my time and distance because it still counts towards my cardio for the week and thatís when I realized what had been different. Our treadmill automatically starts up at an incline of 4.5 and although I thought I had reduced it for this run, I hadnít. I havenít been using any incline for any of my runs (I figure I'll add that in later) and so I had been totally unprepared for a run on an incline tonight.

Iíve been kicking myself since I got off the treadmill but Iím going to chalk it up to a big dumb blonde moment. If my legs arenít too sore tomorrow, Iím going to attempt my W8D1 run then.

I'm starting W8 this week! Tuesday evening, Thursday evening, and Saturday morning are the three days I've picked for my days! I did W7D3 today and thought I was to run a bit longer than 25 min. for D3 so I ran 27 min., not knowing that the time is bumped up to 28 min. in W8. Looking forward to running this week!

Before my kids I used to exercise before work, but later than 0500, more like 6 or 6:30. I found that I had good energy, at least for most of the day and it felt good to get it out of the day for the day. Now with kids, doing things on my lunch works out best, or right after work being second choice, except weekends when my husband is home and I can go first thing. Once I move outside over the summer, I will probably try and do my runs about 5:30 when it's cooler outside as our cardio room at work doesn't have AC. If I go at 5:30 until just after 6, I can still shower and get organized and share in getting my kids ready also! It can be hectic with two small kids in the mornings!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's going good! I actually run farther and faster when I run outside...the treadmill is BORING! LOL :-) BUT 5am is still dark...so...until I can convince myself that I CAN run AND do school after work that's how it's gonna have to be! LOL :-)

OHR...hmmm... maybe down the road...It is supposed to warm up here over the next few days (though still not Texas weather! LOL) and I am thinking that I might just attempt soon my old 5 km route that I did with my old running group to see how I do...we'll see. My treadmill runs are still not too speedy - today in 38 min. of running/walking I went about 4.16 km. I am running on a 1.0 incline. I am thinking if I was outside I might actually get further as long as I pace myself as it can be soo boring on the treadmill.

YAY!! I am SOOOO proud of you!! It's warm enough here to run outside now, but I run REALLY early in the mornings, so not quite light enough outside yet! I suppose that I could run in the evenings...but with school it's really hard to get motivated to do MORE after work! LOL :-) I guess I just need a little attitude adjustment!

I'm with you on your last comment - especially when it's just me in a small cardio room at work....D1 done though!! Reduced my speed from my run on Sat. but ended up basically doing 4 km in 38 minutes between the 28 min. run/warm-up/cool-down. It felt really good, tough, but good!!!! Onward I go...D2 planned for Wed. this week with D3 on Friday if all works out!

Okay...when you're running for 28 minutes straight, the treadmill is absolute TORTURE!! ARUGH! :-) I really wish that it was light enough to run outside in the mornings now... :-( Other than being stuck in one place, the run went good. I had to reduce my speed a little, but I did it! One more to go and I'm on to week 9! WOOT!
