I can relate to the soccer as it can really interfere with my increase to 5K. Yes, soccer is a different kind of running (even for referees which I am).

So far I am able to adjust, but I'm waiting for the 10K program to really test me. I'm starting week 7 today.

today was day one of week 4 for me and it was inspiring. there was a beautiful sunset and i am so pleasantly surprised when i can actually do what the schedule says. that's what you get when you go slow and follow the program.

i have my last soccer game this week and for the first time in four weeks it actually falls on a day when i am supposed to run! otherwise what happens is that i run three days in a row, although soccer is a different sort of running for sure. Still, it can be a little draining by the third day, but not this week!

gotta stretch and go to sleep now. good luck on week 4 everyone and i see you in week five very soon!

Missed a couple of runs and thought I should catch up here... I did Week 4 Day 2 of the C25K program last night. Boy oh boy the honeymoon is over! Runs are getting harder! Felt GOOD to complete it but there were a few moments there where I wasn't sure if I was going to.

If you want to get technical... ;) ...then you only missed 1 run (since there are only 3 a week on the program...). Try the first run and then if it's hard, go back to week 3 :)

I started Week 4 yesterday. I wasn't sure if I should have moved on from week 3 or just re-do it since I missed 2 of 4 runs but I decided to just push through.

Here is my schedule for this week:
Monday - Rest
Tuesday - Run 1.5 m. (accomplished)
Wednesday - X-Train (Hot Pilates in AM - accomplished)
Thursday - Run 1.5 m.
Friday - X-Train
Saturday - Run 1.25 m.
Sunday - Run 2.5 m.

Good luck all!

I did W4D1 and it is the most enjoyable run to date. I had to use the treadmill at the gym because it is miserable out today. I hope on Thursday I can try it outside.

I am starting week 4, and I like listening to my own music, so I made my own playlists for weeks 4 and 5. I based it on song switches. I went through my library and picked out songs that are 3,4,and 5 minutes in lengh. I allowed 10 seconds leeway on either side. I then made my playlists.

W5D2 has 2 eight minute jogging intervals, so I put 2 four minute songs together for those. The hardest part was finding something for week 4 for the two 90 second walking intervals. I used "WAKE", an instrumental from Linkin Park. I had to use it both times because I didn't have anything else in my library that short. It is 1 min 40 sec. I do W4D1 tomorrow. I am looking forward to it.

Lots of self doubt today, even before I went for my run (I'm not sure if it's because I know I should be able to run 20 minutes next week or not). Even the 3 minute runs seemed to last forever today. I finished each run segment, but it was a struggle. I'm trying to tell myself that everyone has bad days, but I know I have to keep thinking positively.

Thanks for listening! Shari

Day 2 done! My legs still felt like lead, but it got better as the time went on. Of course, afterwards when I was on the bike, that wasn't quite the story. I wish I had a hand bike so my arms could be tired instead of my legs! :P Other than that, I'm feeling great and can't wait for Friday!

I am still a little sore this morning but a lot less sore than yesterday. A lot of use with the heating pad seemed to help last night. I'll just keep stretching and using heat until the soreness is gone, hopefully by tomorrow!

I DID it! WOOHOO! I was so nervous. I was reading that so many people had a hard time with the second 5 minutes so I of course was nervous. And to top it all off I'm still crazy sore from my 5 mile hill hike with my husband on Saturday so I was even more worried.

The 5 minutes seemed long and the walking periods seemed SO short. I didn't really start having trouble until the second half of the run. I only started having trouble because my legs were sore. The places that were sore before got a little bit more sore and my legs were heavy and tired. It was funny because before I started the C25K it was always my breathing that held me back, I couldn't breathe when I ran. Now it's my legs that get tired first! I suppose that's a victory in itself isn't it? I'm super excited for Wednesday! I'm really becoming a runner.

Btw, I stretched really good before I started my run and afterwards. I've been taking a couple tylenol and I'll be using a hot pad here shortly on my shins! Hopefully it won't take too long for the soreness to go away! :)

WOOHOO!

I didn't used to take rest days, but now I find that if I take at least one day off completely (not even a walk), I feel better and my muscles seem to be stronger the next week...weird. :)

I'm planning on walking tomorrow, maybe a few 60 second runs if I feel like it but not in the plan at the moment. I will say that in general it is more difficult to get my HR up so I'm guessing that that means I'm getting fit (oh, that is SO weird!). And even though today was tough, I haven't even thought about giving up completely, which is definitely an improvement over previous 'get in shape' attempts....but I'm definitely reconsidering taking any more complete rest days for a while....

It sounds like you just had an off run. It happens to the best of us. Last week I had SOOOO much trouble finishing a 20 minute run, but today I could have kept running when I hit 30 minutes...sometimes your body just revolts :( Sorry. You're next run should be SOOOO much better...take tomorrow off from running...cross train if you like...then get back at it Wednesday :)

Ok, race is back to scary! I took yesterday off completely (first complete rest day since 2/9). Today was HARD HARD work...I honestly thought I wasn't going to make it, slowed down to the point where and slower would have been walking. I kept yawning (and got over seven hours of sleep so that doesn't make sense either), couldn't seem to get my HR up to where it normally is, and felt like someone planted 2 tons of lead in my a**....I really don't understand?!?!? I didn't feel bad before I started and don't feel bad now either....

I DID IT! On Friday actually, but this is the first second I have had to enter it here. It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be but I did slow down significantly just to make sure I could finish. I can hardly believe that I ran for FIVE minutes, lol.

So i start W4 tomorrow and am pretty intimidated....Did week 3 yesterday and had no problems, repeated week 1 today to work on my pace and the intervals seemed SO short! I'm pretty sure that the fear I have is all in my head but still, three weeks ago I thought it would be months till I could run again...

On a happier note, I have officially signed up for the Race for the Cure in San Antonio on April 4th and have actually gotten a few sponsors which means I can't stop now!

I'm just curious to see what my time actually is--I've never been able to run a full mile before! If there's one thing I'm definitely not doing, it's rushing things...last time I tried too much too fast, I gave up. emoticon

The only thing I'm worried about now is making the transition to outdoor running. I'm excited for the snow and ice to clear out so I can get some fresh air and try on my "road legs!" emoticon

WOOHOO! You're doing GREAT! About timing your mile...I wouldn't worry about that right this second. Finish the program and then you can work on speed :-) You don't want to hurt yourself. I've just started running some low hills and I finished the program 3 weeks ago ;-)

I'm starting week 4 of my program tonight--8 minute run, 1 minute walk--repeat for 30 mins. So excited! By the end of the week, I'll be running 10 minutes, and hopefully able to time my first mile so I can try to improve my pace. I'll keep ya posted! So far so good on all the other weeks :)

I just completed Day 3 of Week 4 last night. I did it!

At first there were some serious doubts. I actually made my husband stand by our treadmill the last 5 minute run on D2 and D3 to channell Jillian Michaels from Biggest Loser for me... unfortunately my sweet supportive husband is more like Bob than Jillian but he helped me get through! And better still, D3 was not as hard as D2!

Week 5 is next. I have foolishly read ahead and am terrified of W5D3. But I need to keep chanting my mantra... "I can do it!" otherwise doubt could be my downfall. And if it sneaks in while I'm running, I'll recruit my husband for support again!

So...I finished up week 4 VERY STRONG and very psyched! I did 2 hours of spin yesterday followed by ST and today was the last day of my week 4 Half marathon training SIX MILES!! according to the treadmill I was at a 11:48 average the whole time. I was so excited...and then when I got in after I had my greek yogurt and craisins (definite acquired taste for mix) at lunch I was SO ravenous...my head never moved from plate until it was empty and then i took a nice long nap! I felt I earned it this weekend! I noticed I adjusted my calories to eat more (realistically I guess I should with running schedule, I was staying around the 1200-1550, but have now started creeping into the 1600-1800 range...hoping I am doing the right thing)

Well I got new shoes today. They are nice and I hope that they help with my knee/heel issues. I'm sitting here with my foot up and ice on it. coolrunning.com says RICE for aches and pains. It stands for Rest Ice Compression and Elevation. I took two days off from exercising and it was so difficult!

So, I swear to god when I left for the gym I had all intentions of doing week 5 day 1...I forgot to download it to the ipod!!! So I did week 4 with an incline of 1 and I have to say it wasn't easy. I didn't run for a couple of days and I think that is why. My hip is hurting pretty bad, I know that it it muscular but I don't know why so bad? Anyway tomorrow...week 5....I am so intemidated by it! I know I can do it, I think that I have always taken the easy way out maybe, always wussed out? Time to stop that and go for it emoticon

Just to put in my 2 cents.... I actually think that week 5 was easier for me than week 4. I was SUPER intimidated, too...but once I got going I really got into a groove. I think that if you MUST repeat week 4 again, okay...but if it's mental, you should push through! :-)

So I was debating if I should go one more time on week 4 and I think that I will! I looked at week 5 and I guess it intimidates me a little bit! Such a wuss I know. One more time with the incline of 1 and then I'll go for it emoticon emoticon

YAY! I'm glad that you're working harder. That means faster results :-) (good deal about your ankle, too!)

First of all, my ankle seems to be doing well! I don't know what that was about but it has not happened again. I went for my third run yesterday with an incline and it did make a difference and was a little harder. I don't know if I should move to five or not, I'll figure it out. I will find them time today to go, I hope!

Be careful of your ankle!! I don't want you to end up like me...if it starts hurting again you may want to look into a brace.

OK so I am a little behind schedule due to work but I finally got my second run in tonight. I have to say by the end I felt great and could have kept going. For the last run I went from 4.1 to 4.3 and felt great. I got a little worried for a little bit because my ankle started hurting really bad but as I started running it worked itself out. I will probably go tomorrow too so I can get myself on track with the week. I hope to start week 5 on Wed. After I ran I did some short but sweet lifting with my legs and went home. When I got home I did my second day of push ups, those were easier today also. I'm excited, I hope it all pays off and I can get rid of some of this weight!!!

Doesn't it feel great to have that first run under your belt? I'm glad that you didn't quit--even though it's hard you have to just push through. I wanted to quit when I first started week 4, but I really think that it's my favorite week :-)

Ok so I just did my first work out with the C25K program and I did it! I started on Week 4 and I am amazed how easy it is to fall out of shape when it has been a month or so since I last ran. I felt like I was going to die on the first 5 minutes but I stuck it out, the last 5 minutes went by much faster then the first. I won't lie, I wanted to quit but I kept going and I feel great now that I have stretched and cooled off. My next day will be on Friday, I work 12 hr shifts the next two days, the last thing I want to do is ecercise after being on my feet all day!! Talk to you Friday

Doing day 2 of Wk4 today. Hopefully it'll be warm enough to do it outside. But if not then it's off to the treadmill again.

Thought I'd start a thread to discuss the fourth week of a training program for all those just starting :-)
