So, I completed the first run for Week 1. My program called for 3 miles, but since I was running on a 2km trail I just went around 3 times, so it was a little over 3 miles and the elevation change kind of got to me. At least it is a day in the books.

I did week 1 day 1. I was surprised at how winded just 60 seconds of jogging made me, especially since I had completed the C25K program once before (early spring). Of course, I really haven't worked out since then.

I just did W1D1 and I feel great. I was kind of worried about starting the program because I didn't know how out of shape I was, but I never wanted to quit while I was running, so I feel pretty good about it. :)

W1D2 done. Well it must be getting easier because I only wanted to quit once...lol. I have found that I get really red and hot even though I am not pushing it that hard. I can still talk. Any suggestions or is that just normal for some people?

I finished Week 1 this morning. I will start week 2 on Monday. The first day my chest and throat felt weird and tingly all day, the second day I had the urge to spit. I hate it when people spit on the sidewalk, so I didn't. Today was good. I am looking forward to moving on, but I hope I am ready.

I did W1D1 today. I will be totally honest and say that I wanted to stop twice during the 25 mins....but I didn't. It helped that my 11 yr old ds was watching me, he's overweight as well and I wanted to show him that anyone can do it. I am so lucky that I was able to get new shoes last night and able to download the podcast on my ipod. I need little things like that for motavation(sp). But I did it and I am excited about day 2. I want to find a 5K in my area soon and get signed up. Thank you all...your posts have been very inspiring for me.

I'm restarting after having an awful week last week, my schedule is as follows:
M - Rest (extra-credit, I did the elliptical because I had both the time and energy)
T - Run 1 m. (accomplished!)
W - Cross-Train (accomplished, did Hot Pilates in the am, the elliptical in the PM)
Thur. - Run 1 m. (accomplished Ran 1.3 miles!)
Fri. - Cross-Train (accomplished, Elliptical for 30 minuts and Weights for 30 minutes!)
Sat. - Run 1 m. (accomplished, ran 1.2 miles!)
Sun. - Run 1 m. (accomplished, ran 1.5 miles!)

I'm really proud of myself this week. I bounced back from my bad week last week and tried to channel all my worries into working out instead of eating. Thank you everyone for posting your progress too. Having others go through the struggle really motivates me. Good luck and see you in week 2! emoticon

I did workout 1 of week 1 for the first time and my knee did not hurt!

Actually it was a bit sore before I started and it actually felt better while I was running, and hurt a little when I was walking....weird!

So today, day 2, was alittleharder then yestuday but I stuck it out and did it. I didn't give myself a break, I did two days in a row because I have to work and I wanted to make sure that I get three workouts in. I know I can do it, we'll see what Friday has to bring.

So once again, I am starting again! I went and did my day one of week one and it felt awesome. I had my incline at 1 and set my speed at 5 so I can work my way up from that. I forgot how wonderful it feels after the fact!!!

I did NOT run today, Lisa wasn't feeling good (TOM is bugging her already too) so I rode my exercise bike for 40 min instead.

I'll go run tomorrow morning, just switched the days around

My baby girl placed 3rd at the District track meet yesterday in her 2400 meter run (she ran on the 8th grade team but she is in 7th grade).
Their 400 m relay team placed 2nd and Lisa also ran the 1600 m where she placed 7th.

I WANT TO RUN WITH HER THIS SUMMER AND I KNOW I WILL!!!!

Welcome! I have a race in mind, too. My company has a team every year in a race that raises money for local health care needs. Most of our folks do the 2K, but a few do the 5K. I've done the 5K once--several years ago. I decided this morning that I'm going to do it again. It's the first weekend in May. I won't be finished with the program yet, but that's okay. I can do that week's intervals and just keep going throughout the race instead of stopping at 30 minutes.

WOOO HOOOOO!! :) I like hearing that!! Having that additional month will give you plenty of time!! I wasn't actually running 5K in 30 minutes, so I spent a month before my first race on continuing to increase my time/distance so that I KNEW I could finish!! :)

We're already ahead of you! We picked a local 5K mid-June to support fighting chilhood obesity! Our C25K ends May 19th, so I figure with an additional month of running under our belts we should be ready! It really helps to have a goal in mind.

OK, I also completed W1D2 yesterday. No problems. Had been fit for running shoes the day before and it made a huge difference. The only thing about yesterday was that I had company! My daughter was so excited for me that she decided to do it with me. She doesn't need to lose weight but who can't improve their fitness level? It was awesome to have company. Makes the time pass by even faster. Only thing is I am gonna stick in an extra day of Week 1 so that she and I are on the same schedule. So her W1D3 will be my W1D4. A little odd but it will make the whole process easier to keep track of. Thanks for all the support! Get out and run!

I did W1D2 today. It was a tougher workout than D1. I had a cramp in my right calf and foot; oddly enough the cramp was better during the running portions than the walking parts. But I didn't give up!

I freakin' did it! I completed W1D1. For those who didn't read about it, I was in a car accident a couple of years ago and broke my neck. I couldn't walk without falling and now I'm becoming a runner. What's amazing is that I was having fun! It didn't seem all too hard but I have been working out pretty consistently for a few months. I can't believe I'm looking forward to W1D2! Told you guys it may not be pretty but I was gonna run, and I did!!!!! Yay me!

I just found this thread. I did W1D1 today, followed by 40 crunches and 20 minutes of Power Yoga. I feel great. I know it won't always be this easy, but today was a very good day.

I'm so glad that you made it!! I sometimes feel like I should be running faster, but then I remind myself that dead last finish is better than did not finish is better than did not start ;) You can always work on speed AFTER you complete C25K. Build your endurance first, then you can go back through the program and sub a faster speed on the intervals :)

Thank you sooooo much for the advice!!

I completed day two of week one today. I made sure to slow down my run. I mean, I was running at a pace that felt RIDICULOUSLY slow. But I finished the whole session and I felt like I could have easily kept going. I made sure to stop though!

Thank you so much for the support and advice. I dont know if I would have gone back out there after not completing day one fully. But now I know to SLOW DOWN! Thanks!

Congratulations on starting!! The best advice that I got when I was new to running (which I still am, LOL) was SLOW DOWN...NO, WAAAAAAAY DOWN. EVEN SLOWER... then you'll be fine. I actually felt like I could have WALKED faster during the first few weeks. Now that I've moved on to OHR, I'm speeding up a little, but only 1/10 mile at a time... your body needs to rebuild (or build) the muscles and fibers it uses while running, and that takes time, so starting out slow will help them to develop at the right pace :)

Congratulations on doing Day 1! It was tough for me too, so you are not alone. Day 2 was easier because I did slow down a lot. Don't worry about your speed at this point, I promise you it will come with each week in the program. GOOD LUCK!!!

Oh man, I keep reading all these people who had a hard time not doing more their first week. WELL...

After procrastinating for two weeks, I finally completed day one today. ha ha. It was tuff! I did not have a hard time not doing more at all. I ran with the podcast which was 27 minutes long. Unfortunately I only made it to twenty minutes before I called it quits. I'm more out of shape than I originaly thought. I'm upset that I quit early, but at the same time I'm sooooo proud that I tried in the first place. I will definately continue. I may have found it so difficult because I was running too fast, I'm not sure. I may do week one for two weeks, just to be sure I dont push it too far and to actually be able to complete it. Wish me luck!

I really struggled the first few weeks because I wanted to go farther faster than what the C25K program said I should do...I was REALLY tempted to add "one more" interval...and the one time I did, I sprained my ankle! So, needless to say, there are limitations on what your body can do, even if it feels like you could go for hours...you'll get there sooner rather than later, and I know that you'll be thankful not to be sidelined :)

I feel like I can do more and I am very tempted to but I want to make sure that I know what my body wants after the fact if you know what I mean!! I hope it I take it slow that my hip will stay in check and won't bother me.

Ok so I did day two yesterday and kinda just winged it. I need to get the downloads for the C25K on my ipod. Anyway I did 2 min run with 1 to 1.30 walks. I didn't mean to make my walks so long..oops. Anyway I feel great, I am running with an incline of 1% and faster then I usually do. Anyway so far so good, next run won't be till Saturday, today I will do the elliptical. I don't want to push too much, I ran late last night and I work Friday so....Woo hoo!!

Good deal!! I did C25K at a 1% incline, and have been doing OHR at 1.5-2% (depending on my mood! LOL), and I notice a BIG difference when I go outside...it's not nearly as hard ;)

reading past threads, wow, I did not know that about the incline on the treadmill. I have been running on it with no incline. thanks for that tip.

I did 2 miles today (running)
I did stop for a moment and probably walked almost a 1/4 of a mile, but I felt like I could have not stopped at all.

I plan to run tomorrow too on the treadmill, so I am going to definitely try the incline.

I have to confess: I HAVE BEEN SLACKING with my running & workouts this week.

My husband is finally coming home tonight - he's been out trucking since Dec 29th.
So I had lots of stuff to do to get our tax papers ready and stuff like that.......SOOOO.....I still lost 1 lbs this past week, just didn't stick with my running plan.

He's going to the gym with me tomorrow morning though!! emoticon

That's wonderful, Petra!! I would increase your incline to 1-2% so that when you do start running outside it's not so much of a shock-a 0% incline is like running downhill :-)

THANKS for your input......I'm gonna shoot for the distance and see how it goes, I make sure I listen to my body and quit or at least slow down when it gets too much.

I'll let ya'll know how it went, we're about to leave for the gym soon.

I am using the C25K program from coolrunnings.com. It starts you out slowly but is designed to have you running a 5K in nine weeks. So far it is working great for me I finished Week 2 Day 2 today. There are also pod casts available that are set to music and let you know when you change from running to walking.

I have a quick question for ya'll....

When you guys started with week 1 - did you do 20 min or 3.1 miles = 5K???

Was just wondering, I thought of maybe giving the 3.1 miles a shot tomorrow and see my time........as I was jogging longer than 1 min at a time on Thursday.
I've been walking/exercising for a while, so the distance is not a problem, just want to be able to run/jog the whole thing eventually.

THANKS for all your helpful tips & info.....it really helps reading about other sparkers success!!!

Well, it's the end of Week 1 for me finally! Day 3 was pretty awesome. It was a LOT easier than Wednesday's run. I think that's because I got in some serious cardio yesterday. It felt really good to be running today. I got into the zone a few times and it felt awesome! I went over the minute a few times, but not by much. I'm really excited to start Week 2 on Sunday! YAY!
