I missed a week somehow!

Last week = 200
This week = 205
Goal = 180 by Birthday 5/12

Not sure what happened.

Could be muscle but muscle doesn't usually show up that quickly.
Could be partially water, I drank a ton of it during workout mania weekend.
Could be that I just over ate after the workout was done.
Could be all of the above.

We'll see what happens next week.

The weather has been good, so I've been riding my bike a lot. Cool weather and rain are in the forecast this week. So I will be moving my workouts inside when the cool weather hits.

By all accounts, I should've lost at least a pound this week. Could it be that I lost a pound of fat, but gained a pound of muscle?

I fell off for a bit (wife of 19yrs dropped the D-bomb on me 6wks ago). I stress-starved, then stress-ate, fell off my exercise wagon too.

So, here's my reset week! I've been killing it on the Elliptical (1000cals/day), because I got shin splints using my running shoes for too many miles. So after they heal, I'm back on the tarmac.

Sweet JD!

It will take me a week or so to get back into the swing of things. I'm still eating far too many calories but I'm slowly reducing them back to below 1850. I've decided 165 is probably about as low as my body really wants to be.

Well I absolutely hit the cardio work hard this week. Still the scale shocked me this morning. I did a lot of work on my mountain bike over the last week. Yesterday I did a personal best ride of 33.5 miles in 172 minutes.

I would like too see my weight remain steady or slightly (less than 1 lb loss) at next week's weigh in.

Riding in the rain, fun!!

That's a great week!! Hey, progress is progress. If you're exercising, you may not lose every week since you're also building lean muscle mass. It's all a tradeoff and results in a smaller you and puts you closer to your goal.

I read something last fall that's stuck with me to keep me from getting discouraged. For a person eating a "Western Diet," it takes between 2-3 days to digest your food. So, and not to be gross, what you eat today is still hanging around for three days.

I was at 154.4 yesterday morning. I stayed within my calorie goals. I also had a delicious chicken panini sandwich for lunch, which was admitedly heavy in weight. I'm up two pounds today! Well, I know that it takes 3 days to digest all of that, so it'll go away. I'm not going to store it, it just takes time.

I continue to make progress. My attitude has changed - I am not expecting weight loss every week, so any weekly weight loss is a win. I'm not sure it I will reach my interim weight of 200 lbs by the end of the year, but I will continue my hard work to reach that goal.

I did a personal best distance of 26.6 miles on my mountain bike on Saturday . . . in the rain.

Incremental, but something. I've been having a lot of stress in my life the past few weeks, and I'm surprised that I'm, not gaining. I was way off on my cardio this week, and didn't do ANY strength. Tomorrow morning, I'm going to KILL it though!

LOR, hang in there. You're not up really anything. Keep it positive and you'll be rolling back soon enough.

LW 237.0 lbs
CW 235.4 lbs

I lost weight despite a very non routine week work out wise. I was at scout camp and only counted 30 mins of walking on Mon, Tues and Thurs with a 90 minute hike on Wednesday. Got 2 great bike rides in over the weekend.

My workout plan for the next few weeks is
Mon -stationary bike 45 to 60 minutes w interval work
Tues - stationary bike 45 to 60 minutes w interval work
Wed - mountain bike 60 minutes, 12 miles
Thurs -rest day
Friday - stationary bike 45 to 60 minutes
Sat - 22 miles 110 to 120 minutes mountain bike
Sun - 22 miles 110 to 120 minutes mountain bike

In 2 to 3 weeks, I will try a 30 mile ride. I am working towards a goal of a 40 tp 50 mile ride by sometime in October.

Back on the site, sorry I missed last week. It's been crazy and stressful lately, plus I have family in town. I'm still shrinking though!! I actually saw 154 lbs mid-week but then I bounced up a bit.

Training-wise, I'm running 6x a week, running intervals on 2 of those days, and on Saturdays I've been running intervals, using stairs as my interval. I signed up for a 5k that's happening in a few weeks, and hoping the intervals will make me run faster

Back on track. I weighed in a day early. Only limited cardio for me this week. I'll be out in the 100 degree heat at the H. Roe Bartlett Scout Reservation Monday through Thursday. I'm plan on recording half of my walking minutes this week.

LOR. 3 times per week in great. Just make sure that you are getting quality work outs in vs just going through the motion.

I am starting to change my mindset to the fact that it is is the quality of the workout minutes that count not the quantity.

Btw. It was water and "bio waste ballast" gain for me. I am back near my previous low. No official weight in until 7/25 for me. I'm going to Boy Scout camp for times with my boys in the 100 degree weather!

Thanks guys for the encouragement. I'm not really focused on the program right now. 4 more weeks to go then I'll be back on it. I'm just going to try to keep up with exercise at least 3 times a week.

I bet it's water. It's amazing how quickly sodium can make a person gain pounds in a hurry. At least it's water, and you'll be back down in short order.

First set back. I am not quite sure what happened. I have been tracking, working out and eating right.

Had bit of a salty meal last night and I am stll very sore from a personal best bike ride on Saturday. . . . Must be water gain. I'll weigh in later this week as I will miss next week's weigh in.

I'll continue sticking with my program.

Small fluctuations up are no big deal as long as you are keeping up with your programs. I find my cardio work to be a great stress buster.

LOR, you're doing great man! You do have to live a little, and don't get discouraged. I'd say if you were putting on pounds consistently, then re-evaluate, but you're not doing that. Keep working out, buddy.

CW: 156.8

I sort of expected this bounce, for two reasons. 1) I as shedding weight like crazy after I returned from vacation (water weight... salty foods), and 2) I had re-started my weight training that I didn't do while in Florida. That, and I took the wife out for Baskin Robins on our anniversary date.

I guess the plateau I feared after last week's weigh in does NOT exist.

I have dropped 37.5 lbs to date. I am now officially half way to initial goal of 75 lbs lost. I have a mere 62.5 lbs to lose by June 1st 2012

Awesome job you guys! Just back from vacation, but I'm not weighing until Saturday, my normal day. I ran 10-12k every single day, so I hope that it was a good two weeks. I also ate, umm, poorly. I don't think that people in the Florida panhandle know what healthy eating is. :-)

I have been on quite the cardio streak. I have not missed a day since the end of April. It may be time for a rest day.

I am trying to increase my caloric intake. My food intake average was about 1900 calories per day this week. I need to push that above 2000 calories while eating in a healthy manner.

Tomorrow, I visit the Doctor for a physical. (First time in 3 years)

Btw, I have chosen to do my weekly weigh in on Mondays in order to help keep myself accountable over the weekend.

Nice weigh in JD. I am hungrier during the days that I run - which is about 5 days a week now. I'm trying to find something that meets that craving. I've been looking to eat more proteins - turkey, yogurt, cottage cheese and occasionally beef. Friday night's tend to be my unwind night and that's probably when I do my most damage calorie wise - figures it's the night before the weigh in!

Have a great week JD. I'll be in Georgetown Maine in a week for a much needed vaca with my sweetie. But I'll still be checking in.

LOR, I have that happen too. Seems that I start to carb or starch up as the week goes on, slows the loss down. Have you noticed anything like that?

CW: 157.4
LW: 160.0

I think that it was "just time," or something for me. 56-lbs lost officially, which is past my first goal, and it makes my goal for my June vacation! I did keep my calorie count above 1500 every day. Maybe that has something to do with a decent loss?

I'll be in the Gulf States for the next 10 days, so no weigh in from me next weekend. I just hope that I can maintain, or close to it. I plan on running and doing strength as usual though.

Have a great week guys!

I'm losing a bit too fast so I am increasing my caloric intake. I need to substitute some work with weight for cardio work . . . Or just add weight work to my cardio.

I got back on the mountain bike on Sunday. It lasted 6 minutes until I got a flat, had to speed walk home with the bike and complete my work out on the stationary bike. . . . I'll get back on the mountain bike next Saturday

I sure agree there, KCNEWF. I've got the Spark Diet and Exercise tracker on my Droid, and might have seen what a bomb lunch was going to be if I'd done the calculations at the table. Or, more likely, just eaten less than was served, and come in a bit lower. But understanding what's on the plate is a big part of avoiding overeating.emoticon

The trick to eating out and avoiding those 800+ calories meal is to plan your meal ahead ahead of time - pre counting the calories and fat. I then decide if I want that meal or if I should choose a healthier selection.

Most all restaurants either have menus online or have wifi - so you can either plan your meal before or after you arrive at the restaurant, but before you order the meal.

Carrying a laptop, smartphone or iPad is a necessity if you are doing you've meal planning at the restaurant.

I completely understand adjusting dinner as a result of a poorly planned lunch or breakfast while eating out.

I completely agree that using the tracking tools makes things real and keeps the focus on what's happening. The other issue, though, is finding stuff to eat that fits the caloric need. Today my wife and I joined a friend at lunch. I had half a sandwich and soup. When I totaled the calories it was about 800! My usual lunch is around 300. Had to make some serious adjustments to dinner LOL, but it was OK in the end. Just an example.

Target 175 lb June 2012

Lost about 1.6 last week during a driving vacation Kansas City to Orlando. Kept up the cardio every day even on days that i took the familty to the theme park. . . my feet paid the price.

Drinking 8+ cups of water per day while driving 10 hours per day for 4 days . . . My bladder paid the price. I found several rest areas closed on the interstate in tennessee

Yup, my daughters are have dance nationals (competition) in mid-June in PCB, so we're down there for a week or so. I plan on driving from New Orleans actually, and ending with a few days to tool around N.O.

Good luck with the plan, Doug. It's all about calorie deficit.

Yea -- JD -- I use the SP food and exercise logs, both on my Droid and online as well. For me it's the only way to realize when I'm eating more than I think. I love seeing the reports that show the number of calories eaten is less than the number of calories spent in just living plus exercise. My basic plan is to keep the consumption about 500 calories below the calories spent, and thus lose a pound a week. A plan. Not exactly perfect, as it turns out.

You'll be in Panama City Beach FL for a while? I'm hoping to get down there in a few weeks as well. Good luck with the trim, 150 pound frame. My goal is 155. I'm still hopeful of getting close.

LORA -- thanks for the good words. I'm working at sticking to the program. I appreciate the encouragement.

Quite the trick, really! I ate poorly and it shows. Mostly... birthday cake. And, birthday cake. Oh, and birthday cake. Someone has found their kryptonite perhaps?

I have two weeks until vacation in Panama City Beach, FL, and I was hoping to be well into the 150s by then. Ah well, I'll still keep plugging away.

Welcome Doug! More the merrier buddy. Do you track your food using SP? I find that if I consistently log my food, it both keeps me honest, and I get better results because I can see where I stand daily/weekly.

Excellent Doug. I welcome the participation. Given the heat index down there I'm surprised you haven't melted away to nothing! My SO lives in Bethesda and laments the heat & humidity often.

I'll join this...

During the week down then up. Hard to figure contribution of calories logged, salt in diet, sweating because of a really warm week, or what. But logging here once a week may be a more helpful picture than checking every day. I'll continue the daily checks, because that keeps me serious about what I eat, and weekly posts here to see if I can keep up the effort with you guys!

Another odd week food wise. Not happy with my progress but it's my own fault. But I'm not going to stress over it! :)

I have actual ABS! Just in time for pool season hahaha

LOR, it's all good with your weight. Every scale would weigh you differently.

Be proud of your accomplishments, dude. You're working hard and seeing results

If you wanted a suggestion, and I'm no expert, but how many grams of protein are you eating? I was eating about 60 grams per day before I started exercising (on Slimgenics), but now I'm trying to stay in the 120-160 range, because I stopped losing when I started working out. Just a thought

Funny how I'm right on your heels for fitness minutes JD and yet I haven't lost as much as you! I know the answer is in the type of fitness and probably in the diet too. I'm happy with the results thus far. But like you, I won't be happy till I lose the ribbon that lines my mid-section.

Dude, 2 pound week for you!!!! I know what you mean about a crazy schedule. You do what you can.

I had a zero week, but I'm retaining water. I had a low of 157 earlier this week, but bounced. Plus I've really been off on my cardio and weight training the past week.
