Are your protein shakes homemade or powder? If powder, which ones? When I eat protein in the am (eggs) then I'm not as hungry in the mid-late morning. I was even able to get a run in without dying at the third mile. Which leads me to think a bit more protein earlier in the day might be a good thing.

Thanks for the welcome Loraxvt!

Did any of you hit a plateau or gain weight when you started drinking protein shakes? I'm just curious because I need to increase my protein intake but..
when I started taking protein shakes, the scale didn't move for 3 weeks.. so I gave up on them;
Probably it was just a coincidence, but anyway I was wondering if any of you had a similar experience..

I agree, I am 194, down from 200. and it started to move after I dropped my carbs down and protein up. a 5% swing made the difference

Good point Loraxvt, Some times it is more then watching what we eat and working out. It is also high stress that can trigger weight gains, so we need to look at all the different parts of our life's and make sure we are staying as balanced as we can.
I am staying right on the 195 mark. I feel that will be going down soon.

That's what I am aiming to do, I was just finding that less carbs and more protein seems to work better for me. The other key was making sure I track my intake, it is very easy to go over on the calories. So by the end of the day you can see where you went wrong or where you did great and keep progressing. Today I was at 195 so my ratio of 55% carbs, 25% protein and 20% fat is the right combo for me. I am starting the P90X2 program on Monday and am training for a ultra marathon in May, so I should have no problem burning calories for the next 4 months.

Thanks mate. I did enjoy it.

Just for comparison's sake, I'm at an 1800 calorie limit and aim for 500 calorie burn 3-4 days a week (which I often don't get) but when I follow this regimen I drop 1-2 pounds per week.

hey Loraxvt, ya gotta let loose once in a while, Happy late birthday and "forget about it"
I am hitting a 400 to 700 calorie burn 6 days a week, so at 2000 calories I should post a 400 lb deficit, but the last 2 days have put me at 195 lbs, thats down 5 lbs so I am sticking with the lower carbs and see where that leaves me in a couple of weeks

Meh - celebrated my SO's birthday last weekend. Ate carefree and gained several pounds for it - up to 177.6.

Back on track now. Hoping to get back what I lost asap!

@GWBACH: I'd keep with the current diet. But maybe you should look at the rest of your routine - excersize levels?

up a pound to 198,
funny thing is I was losing weight when I was eating a higher carb diet. now that I am hitting my 50-30-20 marks (carbs-fat-protien) I am not moving again, so should I continue on and keep hitting my marks and trust the system for a couple more weeks and see if I start to respond or do I go back to the higher carbs and start hitting the 55-25-20 marks, or 50-25-25?

324 this morning. That is 10 pounds in less than a week since I signed on to Spark, so I think that is probably significant amount of water weight.

- Message Posted by: PAPA_J - 1/4/2012

Maybe some of it but not all. It helps to weigh each day but then average your weight for the week. Only look at your weekly averages for your official "loss". That helps to remove the daily ups and downs with water, salt intake, etc. That way if you have one or two days that you're up, but the rest down, your weekly average will show your true loss.

Weekly average is down to 369. Pretty happy, Haven't been at that weight for a few years. Anyone looking to get and keep weight off should look into a basic strength training program and high intensity interval training in addition to their diet!
