wow Patrick!! I agree and I hate the responses I got when I said I was going on a liquid diet for a little while to help kickstart my loss...Heck my surgeons made me do it for 2 wks before and 2 weeks after getting the surgery....I wasnt starving myself I just chose to get my foods in liquid form for a while!!I love spark but not that they are so against weight loss surgery!!

I'm just reading through older posts here still and WOW thank you for this one-- what a GREAT articulate response for me to have prepared for that argument!!! I've had 2 friends tell me I'm "giving up" by pursuing WLS.... wish I'd had this counter response available a couple days ago!

I've tried on numerous occassions to get more involved on Spark as a writer, coach, etc... As Laurie noted below, SP IS very anti-surgery. While they don't dismiss it, they are far more interested in those who have lost weight the "normal" way (i.e. diet / exercise), or ideally the "perfect" way (i.e. following the words of "The Spark" down to the letter).
I won't even begin to express my anger and frustration at that. I've sent enough nasty emails to the SP staff and management that I'm surprised they let me still be here on SP. Suffice to say, anyone who thinks that "diet and exercise" is the "normal" way to lose weight is just plain ignorant. Anyone who realizes that we drive cars instead of ride horses, use Google instead of the Encyclopedia Brittanica, or who uses electricity for lighting instead of candles will realize that WLS is NOT a cop-out, it is simply the world moving forward. WLS is the "state-of-the-art" in weight loss techniques. Don't let anyone else tell you otherwise!!

Thjanks all! I did take part and submitted my success story and 2 photos before and after. Only thing I don't like is the media part hmmmm I'm really a shy person on this side of thes creen. But i do like the idea of the prizes listed. Heck i even got a few mega Million jackpot tickets today it's $640 million.
I've never responded to the occasional SP requests for stories or for people who might want to take part in SP's outside involvements (magazines, etc.). The company seemed dismissive of surgery, preferring members who would help it its own plan. Maybe SP has eased up on its view of surgery.

I received a letter from SPJohn asking me to participate in a success story sweepstakes. I am sure thinking about doing this. I am down to 170 from 150. However I'm going to wait until I can buy something that willr eveal my sexy legs and hide the flabby belly. No string bikini for me, thank you.
I'm sure all of you received the letter i did.
