My steps for the last day of April was:

I won, won, won, won won!
Affirmed that attainable, consistent goals are the way to go!

Here is my total for April:
294,600 steps
That is an average of 9820 steps per day and a total of 147.3 miles for the month.
I am very happy with the results....in keeping with the recommended 10,000 steps per day.
Highlights: My most memorable steps were on Easter when I was out at 5AM with the birds and the flowers. I did not see one other walker or runner at that time and barely any other people out at that time...I just love being alone in the world!
That same day I took my first ever stroll at the Easter parade along 5th Avenue. Those were fun and very warm steps.
I also enjoyed the two times I went out with my daughter to walk to yoga (about 2000 steps eachway.) She has low muscle tone and is only recently able to have to endurance to do this much walking.
Another highlight was one day when I got the full 10,000 in by 8AM.
Finally, after I saw the disney movie with my class one of my student sand I were leading our group like the beautiful animals we just saw. I was inspired by the cheetahs and we were nearly racing by the end.
Overall, I dropped the obsessivness and tried to remember to walk joyfully. As I walk I just love how my body feels. The ease and the flow of the movement feels like my body is doing what it is designed to do.
For May I have been thinking about a new twist on the walking. Maybe I will challenge my self to do at least one walk before work per week. Last June I was doing it almost everyday. I love the early time walking, it just takes a certain discipline.
But for now I want to thank you Boo for setting up the challenge. It was a joy to walk with you all.
Edited to say: I want to thank my accountant husband for setting up an excel document for me and doing the tally for me.

Bummer about the battery, JOL. I'm so used to relying on the Bodybugg armband to keep track of my calories burned and steps that a low battery would mess me up big time. I do love all of my battery-operated gadgets.

Let's not make our record-keeping stressful. The important thing is that we enjoy our walking! If there are days when you are more comfortable, just posting your steps for that day or for several days, if you have fallen behind in posting, no problem.
Days like yesterday, for me, I like to just post something like this: 4/5=6500 I think that's good enough for show biz! Don't you?

I'll have to calculate the mileage later...
It's so tough to get up from the computer when I'm at work and today 4/4 was so busy, too much to do tied me down and prevented me from taking a much needed break with which to walk.

I've never been to New Orleans and was just thinking I need to. But, then italy is the place for pizza!

Pizza sounds healthy to me. Where do you guys want to go?

Are we establishing a starting city & final destination? It'd be fun to going someplace & having a "cyber" lunch together! Healthy food at the end is always a good motivator!

If there were more of us, I would set up a "Google SpreadSheet", where we could enter our data. Here's an idea.
When we post our daily steps, we could also type a line that I could just "copy and paste" to the summary.
I'll use me as an example of what I mean. Here's what the posting would look like.
4/1--6,650 4/2---10,056 BARBARA_BOOBOO---16,706 steps = 8.353 miles
(All I would need to do is copy and paste that bottom line (of each person's cumulative steps up to that point, and the mileage equivalent, steps divided by 2000) into our summary and adjust the team's cumulative total accordingly.)

I'd agree JOL that a daily # can be counter-productive when it just can't be done! (like riding in a car for 12 hr/day). I'd rather aim for a weekly total for myself.
Is there someplace we should record these numbers so you don't have to be our "middleman" AND fearless leader?

Congrats, CASSIE, COLUMBINE and JOL. I have updated your numbers, CASSIE. Maybe JOL'S idea of NOT setting a specific goal for each day would help with the obsessiveness. Some days we have more opportunities to walk than others. We want to keep the JOY in our walking, and if we have an inkling that the goal itself is producing stress, it could be hindering our lifestyle change, not helping it. So much of life is a mind *uck, isn't it?
To see what happens, I think I'll take away my specific goal and just keep it in mind as a DIRECTION to aim for, in general. Some days more, some less.
I hope your daughter enjoyed walking with you. NYC is such a cool place to walk. I plan to check out some places in Milwaukee that I've never been this summer, on foot. What are some of YINZ'S favorite places to walk?

I actually walked a total of 13,100 0n 4/2.....so my total for the end of 4/2 is:
19,481.
I did 11, 000 by noon yesterday.....and I also got my daughter walking. We did about 3 miles together to and from yoga class.
I must say that I feel obsessiveness coming on with this.
So I am going to work on that,

APRIL WALK PARTICIPANTS TOTALS TO DATE, AT END OF 4/1
BARBARABOOBOO---6650 steps = 3.325 miles CASSIES---6381 steps = 3.19 miles JOL1KEY2BOL3---4616 steps = 2.308 miles
HOW FAR THE TEAM HAS WALKED, SO FAR---17,647 = 8.824 miles
I'll add names as others join us. It's OK to join the walk later in the month.
Once you post your numbers for the day or days (if you are entering several at once), I'll add them to the above totals. Scroll down to find the link to convert other exercises to steps, if you don't have a pedometer, or your battery died.
You can enter your numbers as miles OR steps. Our formula is 2000 steps equal one mile.
I'll be out until late today, Saturday. I'll add up things that you post after I get home. Have a good one.

Joining up!!! I will post my daily steps here, but I'm not going to put any goal on it. I don't want to put pressure on myself, but it will be nice to tally up the end of the month.

I'll go for the 11,000 steps a day, too, CASSIE. Since I also wear a Bodybugg, I'll go with the steps that it reads each day.
You can also estimate your steps by using the SP tracker for fitness miles. For our purposes, each mile will equal 2,000 steps.
I'll keep a running total of our steps and miles, so that we know how far we've gone. Imagine the trouble we can get into, out on a walk together! Kidding around on the trail is encouraged.

Interested in going on a hike together? I don't have a destination in mind. I just thought it would be exciting to put on our shoes and take off together. Who knows where it will take us or what we'll see along the way?
We will start on April 1st. For our purposes, we will count 2,000 steps as one mile. I will post a link to help those without pedometers to convert other exercise (so that what you do in our sexy gym will count towards our walking goal) to steps. It's more accurate if we actually use pedometers, though.
We can each set a goal of 5,000 steps, 10,000 or 15,000 per day and post our daily results. I'll keep track of the numbers posted, so that we can see how many miles we can actually walk in one month as a team.
Are you "in"?
