Hi Jol and Cassie, Happy New Year!!! It's 2012, what are we going to do differently? I've been giving a lot of thought to that and as soon as I find my paper, I'll share it with you.

Jol, sorry about not being on here yesterday, I was recovering from my New Years Eve. I haven't celebrated New Years Eve in many years and we had a party to go to this time. I had a great time! I drank about 10 ounces of champagne, and I'm just not used to drinking that much anymore... I did over do it and went over on calories by about 500 calories. I decided that I wasn't going to worry about it, that 1 night wouldn't totally derail my year of efforts, but I am starting over with my sane eating count. I did feel bad about myself yesterday anyway, it's hard to convince myself when I have a big surplus that it's ok. Jol, you told me something during our last conversation that I think I'll try to apply to myself this year: try to keep my calories around 1600 for weight loss. That's the one thing I do remember about my goals this year, I'm determined to get to my goal of 140 pounds! I also joined the Official January Jumpstart Workout Challenge team, there's a slight chance I might win an i-Pad, and I need some motivation to exercise lately. Since I can't run, I've been having to get creative to get my cardio in, and honestly, it's just not as easy as running!

I'm working on day 2 of sane eating!

I started a new 4DW yesterday, to get at least 250 calorie deficit every day, this should allow me to get to my goal weight in about 4 months:
Sunday: 436 calorie deficit, total calories was 1683 emoticon

My dad made a ton of fudge and I still have a lot left, banana bread that my mom brought over, we have Harry and David goodies from Wes' parents, and 4 pounds of chocolate truffles that I ordered specially from See's Candies (I chose every flavor):

Hi Susan!
Just returned home from our trip. It's 10:00 pm on December 31 and I'm going to try to stay up until midnight, but no guarantees. I feel a little gypped because I didn't really do anything for New Year's, but we did have a great 2 weeks away in Northern California!

I did not binge during my trip, but have lost count... I think I was on Day #3 before I left, so I'm going to add 13 days.

Today I'm finishing Day #16!!!

I also spent some time thinking about all the good habits I like to practice and there are a total of about 23 total habits. I am also going to start some new 4 day wins tomorrow. I'm going to write a blog about some of this right now, rather than hog up the space here.

Anyway, the clock is ticking down!!! Here's to working on habits.

I did so well yesterday. My friends visited and their way thru town and we went out for lunch. I got the roasted vegetable panini and ate some chips. I stayed in my calorie range and ended up with a 342 calorie deficit.

I'm working on day 15 of sane eating.

I still owe myself 5 lotto tickets.

I haven't been posting, but I have been eating sanely. I think I'm on day 14 of sane eating. On 12/25, I didn't log any food and I don't know if I got a deficit but, I ate reasonably. I have not been exercising, but that's about to change. I have been logging my food, I just took that one day off. On the 26th I got a 1 calorie surplus, and yesterday I got a 65 calorie deficit.

I still owe myself 5 lotto tickets, but I did my 90 (+) minutes of reading!

I'm working on day 10 of sane eating! I actually got a deficit yesterday, despite eating fast food twice. I'm done with the fast food for now but tonight I'm going out to eat with my parents and tomorrow it's pancakes with the parents and then x-mas dinner later. I'm not going to stress too much about food, just concentrate on eating only what I love, and take breaks from the eating. I still have this cold, it doesn't seem to be getting much better.

I'm working on day 9 of sane eating! It wasn't a binge, but I went over on my calories by 326 calories yesterday, when I came downstairs and ate a piece of cake last night when I couldn't sleep... Just posting so maybe I'll be better today. I still have a cold and have been working every day since Tues. I'm not taking my food to work this week because of being sick and the long shifts... plus, I just needed a change. I'll get back to it next week.

Thanks, Jol, I'll try to hang in here while you're gone. I hope you have a great time! I had a great visit with you on Saturday!

I'm working on day 5 of sane eating, BUT, I ate too much yesterday. I didn't binge... I was sick, feeling feverish, raw throat, and tired... I knew my body needed extra calories to heal itself, so I didn't worry about it. At the end of the night, though, I was surprised to learn that I would be 466 calories over! It's ok though, not the end of the world. lol! I will get a small deficit today... now is not the time to try to lose weight...

Haha! I had gotten up out of bed and came downstairs to put in that last post. I guess I wasn't thinking straight... yes, 5pm your time, 8pm mine! Thanks for your comments about my upcoming knee surgery, it makes me feel better to know you approve. emoticon

I'm working on day 3 of sane eating! I was so stressed yesterday from dealing with old x-mas lights that started out working and then went out, and a couple of stressed out phone calls (business stuff, nothing serious, just irritating), and maybe too much caffeine! I finally went for a walk, got my exercise and calmed down at the same time. That helped, and then I took a shower and started relaxing...

Jol, I'm not afraid of knee surgery, but anesthesia has always scared me. I've been working toward getting this surgery for 2 months because I need to try and fix it, if I don't try, I already know it won't fix itself. Worst case scenario is that my issues won't go away and I'll still have the knee that I have now, yes, plus some more pain under my belt from the surgery. That's the chance I'm willing to take and it'll take something monumental to change my mind. I had knee surgery on my left knee 19 years ago and that knee is pretty functional now. Yes, it's different issues mostly, but I hold hope that I'll be able to run and go down steps again. Well, thanks for being my sounding board! I hope today went alright for you.

BTW, I called my boss today and she said I can take the time off!

Susan, surgery scares the beejeebus (?spelling) out of me, but in fact I know several people who have been very happy with knee surgery. I'm sure you have done the research and January is far enough away to rethink.

I'm working on day 2 of sane eating. My orthopedic surgeon visit yesterday ended in surgery being scheduled for 1/11/12, pre-op paperwork will be done on 1/5/12, unless of course my boss doesn't let me off work, then I'll have to reschedule. The surgeon can't guarantee that it will be better, so I had to make the call. I have osteoarthritis in my right knee, which I've known for about 10 years, and I have a lot of bodies floating around in the joint. I also have a torn meniscus, which he says has nothing to do with my knee catching. A lot of my pain could just be the degenerative changes from the arthritis but Ii just know that at least some of it is coming from the loose bodies floating into areas and getting in the way. They have nothing to say that I'm not right. So, I made the call: surgery. The surgeon also said there are things they don't always see on MRI and when he goes in he'll see everything and take care of whatever he finds. My DH came with me to the appointment and he didn't nix the surgery, which I think is a very good thing because he tends to be more conservative in that regard. I really need to get my knee back so that I can continue with my active lifestyle, I think I'm a little down since I can't run, and this at least gives me a chance! Okay, I'm done thinking out loud. Thanks for listening, and your input is appreciated!

Jol, try not to beat yourself up over that little binge.I said try, but I know how you feel, and I know how hard it is to feel ok after a binge. I usually try to make myself feel better by reading about how one day a week should be a high calorie day to keep the metabolism revved up. lol. The real issue isn't how many calories, but the loss of control. Actually, you were still in control, your wild-child, that is. I'm glad you decided to let that particular 4DW go, for now... You've been doing great without forcing yourself to go so low! Well, I can't believe it, but I just had a 1600 calorie binge.... Darn!.... Don't know what happened, but it just did. I'm supposed to go to a dinner tonight, but I couldn't wait to eat until 7:30 or 8 pm, so I ate a snack at 5 pm. Then I realized I wouldn't have enough calories for dinner at the restaurant, and then felt like s&I@ that I couldn't wait for the dinner, so I just started eating everything in sight. Lots of cheese, bread, peanut butter and sweets.

The last few days, I've been having anxiety about being away, eating out, for two weeks again. We're leaving next Tuesday. Plus we're going to the snow and I always feel uncertain on ice and snow, and a little scared. Silly, but true. ...and I hate being cold. The last few times we've gone, I've slipped and fallen at least once and hurt my knee or hip.

Also, my weight has been at it's lowest, but I had a big water gain of several pounds this week and so I've been feeling really heavy.

So I guess this was all a perfect storm to make me binge after months (actually I had started last December).

But I'm done now, and I'm moving on, but in order to be strong enough, need to commit here that I will not eat anything else this evening. Starting Day #1 right now.

I'll look at my 4DWs and see what is salvageable tomorrow.

I look forward to "seeing" you on Saturday, too. My sore throat is gone and my nose is better... I'm still tired but that's more a function of interrupted sleep when the AC guys came over this morning...

I'm back to working on day 1 of sane eating after a successful 21 days!!! My MRI ended up being pretty painful last night because my knee started cramping up about half-way thru it and the pain just kept getting worse. I'm so glad that's over. In less than 3 hours I'll be at my doctor's office and hopefully he'll be able to tell me something good...

Susan, Hang in there! You know, I have always wondered why appraisers have such "power"? It's all fairly subjective... but I guess that's the way it works.

Yes, I actually have some 4 day wins I don't even report here. I had to make one to eat lunch after 12 pm and supper after 5 pm. Being at home is still a challenge and I want to eat my supper early a lot of the time.

I must be feeling a little off, or stressed. The property appraiser was here today and I have my MRI scheduled for tonight. Also, I feel like I might be coming down with something... a scratchy throat, runny nose, and feeling tired... I've eaten 1250 calories so far today, and I'm going to stop snacking and wait for dinner at this point.

I'm working on day 21 of sane eating! Today, I get my MRI done. The lady who made the appointment told me it was at 9:30 AM but someone called me yesterday and told me it was 9:30PM! I really don't like the idea getting that done so late but at least my DH agreed to go with me...

Boo, sorry about your stress. You have lots going on and I know how hard it is when you don't know what the future holds. Change is stress also, and you leaving the team has got to be taking its toll... I'm glad you're back to start again. That's the only way!

I'm working on day 19 of sane eating! I only got a little exercise yesterday before my knee went out again. Apparently, the lunges are bad for it at this point. I'm trying to think of new ways I can exercise!

Got to start my 4 days again.

Been kind of a stressful last couple of days. I have resigned from the dance team. And it has been harder than I thought.

Since the the NBA lockout is over, Seniorgee is practicing again. Due to time constraints, there were no auditions. We received a note from the coach, "Congrats. You all made the team. Let's roll."

I had been planning to just not show up for auditions, the chicken way out. As it happpened, I had to email the coach and explain. She suggested I attend practice tomorrow to say goodbye to the team and that I dance with them one more time, in a holiday flash mob on Dec. 30th.

In all 5 years, no one has left the team of their own free will, and now two of us are leaving. Growing pains, I guess. Time for something new.

My official reason was uncertainty about a potential move and my need for time and energy to prepare. DH may or may not retire within a year. He says I threw him under the bus. Maybe. However, he keeps talking about it and looking at market conditions for a good time to sell the house. And I keep removing posssessions.

I am looking to enroll in a writing class to explore some alternatives. Writing fiction is one of those "someday" goals that I have been afraid to pursue. I may have waited too long and I may not be successful. I'd like to find out what I'm up against and whether it's worth pursuing further.

What has been difficult about the decision to leave the team is the bond I have with the other dancers. I will miss them. Oh, well. That's show biz. And unless I do leave town, we will get together socially. Onward HO!!!

Working on sane eating day #14!

"Work on some of my good eating habits for 4 days: have a low starch meal (no bread or rice or potatoes)", - Daily reward is to burn a candle. .4 day reward is to buy $20 lotto tickets.
Tuesday - I had left-over yams at lunch, so I'm going to add a day. Not a bad thing to eat, but not included in my low starch plans

I'm working on day 16 of sane eating! I ran yesterday some. I had to stop every few minutes when my knee started aching too much and walk but I ran at least 30 minutes, total! My challenge today will be to get some exercise. I don't want to move because I'm sore, and I can't do the strength part of my PT exercises today since I did them yesterday...

Hi! I have finished my 4th day and the kitchen is closed for the evening except for water and tea. . I think I'll curl up on the couch with some hot tea.

I just received a note from CASSIE on FB and told her I was coming here to report my 4th day.

Any foreseeable Saturday afternoon/evening is good for me because DH works the evening shift and it's so hard to plan anything like that when he's home... Although, during the week, daytime, while he's working on his projects could work too. If Saturdays aren't good for y'all, I'll let you know the week days that I don't have anything planned...
